Seattle Education Association: The Voice of Seattle Public Schools Educators
Seattle Education Association (SEA) is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of Seattle public schools educators. SEA is committed to ensuring that every student in Seattle receives a high-quality education, and that every educator has the resources and support they need to be successful.
SEA was founded in 1948, and since then has been working tirelessly to improve the quality of education in Seattle. Today, SEA represents over 5,000 educators who work in more than 100 schools across the city.
SEA's mission is to promote excellence in education by advocating for policies and practices that support student learning, professional development for educators, and equitable access to resources for all students. SEA works closely with school administrators, elected officials, parents, community organizations and other stakeholders to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education.
One of SEA's primary goals is to ensure that every student has access to highly qualified teachers who are well-trained and supported. To achieve this goal, SEA advocates for policies that attract talented individuals into teaching careers; provide ongoing professional development opportunities; offer competitive salaries; provide adequate classroom resources; reduce class sizes; increase teacher autonomy; promote collaboration among teachers; and foster positive relationships between teachers and students.
Another important goal of SEA is promoting equity in education. This means ensuring that all students have equal access to educational opportunities regardless of their race or socioeconomic status. To achieve this goal, SEA advocates for policies such as increased funding for low-income schools; expanded early learning programs; culturally responsive teaching practices; restorative justice practices instead of punitive discipline measures like suspensions or expulsions which disproportionately affect marginalized communities.
SEA also works closely with parents and community organizations on issues related to public education policy at both local & state levels through advocacy efforts like lobbying legislators or organizing rallies & protests when necessary.
In addition to its advocacy work on behalf of educators & students alike, SEA also provides a range of services to its members. These include professional development opportunities, legal representation, and access to a variety of resources such as lesson plans, curriculum materials, and classroom supplies.
SEA is committed to ensuring that every student in Seattle has access to a high-quality education. By advocating for policies that support student learning and teacher success, SEA is helping to create a brighter future for all students in Seattle. If you are an educator or parent interested in supporting SEA's mission, we encourage you to get involved today!
