Great welcome, attentive service and comfortable, stylish decor. The menu is always innovative although this visit not quite 100% hence the 4 stars. Nevertheless, I am being extremely critical and look forward to my next visit.

Really excellent fine dining food, service, ambiance and prices reasonably given this.

Why not 5 stars? I don't love fancy food, I love Mexican, Asian fusion, Turkish etc, so it's just personal preference.

It's no surprise that this restaurant has lost its Michelin star (some time ago) and is resting entirely on its laurels of its once stellar reputation (cerca 2012).
Behind the menu's cryptic gourmet-speak, random combinations of incompatible flavours, desperate to be innovative, simply disappoint.
The experience was marred further by an inexplicably packed car park with no valet and a level of service several degrees inferior to a casual diner.
Presentation, in particular was amateurish, ranging from a symmetrical collage of salmon slices and sauce blobs to a shrunken steak served completely naked in the middle of a run of the mill dinner plate. Admittedly, the steak was tasty and only a little overdone on one side.
The casual disregard, and possibly short staffed, experience with the servers was frustrating. I was eventually forced to call out rudely to order drinks. A smarter restaurant would ensure my glass was never empty.
Despite an inviting exterior, the interior design is thoroughly disappointing, as was the whole experience especially considering the price.
Not recommended at all.

For the first time I left Chapter One disappointed with the meal my wife and I had eaten. Maybe Monday night is the regular chef s day off but on the salmon starter the fish was seriously undercooked. By contrast my jugged hare was More

We went out for the Patricks Day meal served in the Brasserie. The pea and ham soup and Irish stew were very enjoyable. They were very tasty and filling. There were two other courses which were also enjoyable.
The restaurant was understandably quiet and the meal was probably our last at a restaurant for a while. However; when the government advice changes we will be returning.

Irish tasting menu. We had another lovely lunch at Chapter One. Amazingly friendly staff and suitable for children (we went with our toddler and baby). The tasting menu was novel and well worth the visit.

Fairly underwhelming. Big reputation, but personally I found the the food to be decent, but far from standout. The service was probably the disappointing part of the experience - really rather mediocre. Perhaps an off day, but I wouldn't be likely to return.

Excellent very high end food with superb wine list to accompany. Service is attentive and both professional and knowledgeable. Look out for the set menus and special offer promotions as ways of keeping the costs down a bit. Next time we will try the brasserie which looks good value for money.

We had a very good evening. Menu was carefully crafted to provide something for everyone and the jugged hare starter never fails. Wine list is excellent with decent bottles available at all price points. Service was great and all our food was spot on.

Very nice modern restaurant with excellent service...

Very nice modern restaurant with excellent service. Food was to an excellent high standard and reasonably priced given the excellent level of service provided and high quality of the cusine.

Chapter One is clearly striving to offer the perfect dining experience and, for the most part, succeeds. Ordinarily I would award 5* for the quality of meal I was provided however given the perfectionist targets of the restaurant I feel the few minor niggles I did experience should be taken into account for this class of establishment.

The three main little niggles:
-Some very untidy cabling just outside the main door.
-I was unfortunate enough to have a seat rather close to the cheese cart. I do love a bit of cheese but the smell of some potent European cheeses doesn't fit in with every course.
-The room was rather noisy during my visit. Being busy is of course a good sign but we did find ourselves having to shout a little to hear each other at the table. A few soft furnishings could help dissipate some of the echo.

Now I have been exceedingly picky but only because I feel it is a resteraunt that should, and likely will, offer perfect dining.

I would happily go there again and provided I'm not sat next to the cheese I'd likely update to a full 5.

I love this place. The food is sensational and they have a great wine list. I have been there a number of times. One of the items on the desert menu is a selection of deserts which allows you to taste all of them - heaven (be wise and share this between two - its huge)! My only advice would be not to have any bread beforehand as you'll regret it later as you'll have no space left!

Great service, high quality food and a magnificent wine list. We've now been here twice and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times. An imaginative menu which caters for a broad range of tastes, without trying to be all things to all people. We felt it was good value, with portions the size you expect when eating high-quality food, rather than just seeking out high-quantity. We certainly didn't leave hungry!

We went to Chapter One for a special occasion, and to break the monotony of life with Coronavirus. Only once or twice a year, they hold an evening 7 course Tasting Menu, which is always very popular. We were only able to get a table due to a cancellation. Every course was memorable, and with the accompanying wine flight, the evening passed very pleasantly before the 10pm deadline for closure. A real treat in these restricted times.
Due to Covid regulations, each table was well spaced, hand sanitisation was mandatory, and the staff were very professional.
I will certainly be attempting to book again, once next years dates are announced.

What can I say... wow, 100% worth the visit.
Highly trained staff, faultless service, amazingly presented food which tastes amazing.
Steak was just perfectly cook, the ravioli starter...well a work of art!
I could go on and on, but maybe you should take a punt and give it a go yourself! Definitely once in a full moon experience but worth it.

I took my wife here for her 50th and as usual the service and most importantly the food was amazing . I cannot recommend Chapter One more, if you enjoy impressive food you have to eat here, there is a wide variety to choose from and several menus to select from . We ate in the Brasserie starting with Crab and avocado on toasted sour dough bread followed by fillet and rib eye steak which was melt in the mouth . Pay a visit .

We have now visited several times for both lunch and dinner, including an engagement lunch for two and a postwedding meal for ten. That says something for the ambience ! We were consistentlyImpressed with the choice of dishes available in a varied, changing menu and also by the quality of the food, wine and service each time. Thoroughly recommended for special occasions.

I've been to this restaurant approximately a dozen times over the last 10 years and it's been fairly consistent. They had a wobble a couple of years ago and lost their Michelin star, but I've been back a few times since and it seems to have improved again.
I did once go a bit off piste and order an eel terrine which was not good, but if you stick to sensible choices instead of assuming that everything on the menu should be excellent, you won't go too far wrong. It's good value for money at around 1 Michelin star quality.

We went here for a joint celebration, 10 year wedding anniversary and 40th birthday. We decided to spoil ourselves with the tasting menu plus the accompanying wines the sommelier had selected. Everything was beautifully cooked, seasoned and presented. The waiter explained each dish but kept it short and sweet. The sommelier also presented each wine with a little info which was interesting. Delighted to receive individual mini celebration cakes at the end, a lovely touch. The atmosphere was elegant and also warm and inviting. Everything beautifully clean and well cared for. Would happily go back whenever I got the chance.

Difflecult to access, food first class, no complaints at all, lots and lots of staff, well manoured and helpful , but in a restraunt offering fine dineing , and the amount of staff , why would I have to pour the wine , is no one one observing from a discrete distance, I would return , but I left feeling disappointed , and for the cost , which was not a issue , but hoped I would feel that wow factor , but sadly I did not

We came for a new year's eve meal with family. The food was absolutely fantastic, each plate looked amazing and tasted sensational. The croissant bread was to die for even before the meal began! It was the best beef dish I have ever eaten, it literally melted in the mouth and the chocolate pudding and brandy snap were delicious. The kids had chocolate fondant desert and were desperate for us to get the recipe. I had mocktails as I was driving, can thoroughly recommend the pina colada, it wasn't too sweet as some are and the mojito, very refreshing. Atmosphere was great, as you would expect and fellow dinners all joining in with welcoming in the new year. It was a wonderful experience and a pleasure to remember now we are into Veganuary!

Awful and eye wateringly expensive!

Awful and eye wateringly expensive!

I cannot understate how exceptionally poor value this Orpington, Kent based restaurant is compared to some of the much cheaper Michelin experiences I have happily enjoyed in London, UK and the rest of Europe.

Food was average at best, fish overcooked and staff kept knocking my chair when passing by. The interior leaves much to be desired as a restaurant struggling to sell itself as a top tier establishment. If it was once recognised as a fine eatery, well then those days are long gone.

The wine list was good but again hideously expensive. Just remain in disbelief at how this establishment can justify these extortionate prices for distinctly average and unremarkable food.

Avoid at all costs, I regret my booking and will certainly not make the mistake of visiting again.

Was really disappointed with our most recent visit having used Chapter One for years now. We tried the Christmas menu. Starter and dessert were nice however the main courses were a real let down. Biggest annoyance from our visit however was the service where we felt like we were ignored. We could see that other tables near us felt the same.

Fabulous food (really, no lie. Everything I've ever eaten here over the years, even the bread, is AWESOMELY good, their quality control must be impeccable!!) Staff are so well trained, observant, helpful , right there when you want them but totally unobtrusive. Super service. So called 'better' restaurants could learn a lot from here. My go to place for a special occasion meal. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

So this place is expensive. The food I believe just about warrants the cost. It's good, but won't blow you away. I'm pleased to say that the staff were much less stuffy on a recent visit. Sometimes I feel like they think it's a privilege for me to be there!
