Sea Pact: A Sustainable Seafood Alliance for a Better Future
Sea Pact is a sustainable seafood alliance that brings together seafood companies from across North America and around the world to work towards the betterment of our oceans and environment. The company was founded in 2013 with the aim of creating a platform for like-minded businesses to collaborate on sustainability initiatives, share best practices, and drive positive change in the industry.
At Sea Pact, we believe that sustainable seafood is not only good for the environment but also essential for ensuring food security and economic stability. Our members are committed to responsible fishing practices, reducing their environmental impact, and promoting social responsibility throughout their supply chains.
Our members include some of the most respected names in the seafood industry, including processors, distributors, retailers, and restaurants. Together we represent over $2 billion in annual sales revenue and employ more than 30,000 people worldwide.
One of our primary goals at Sea Pact is to promote sustainable fishing practices that protect marine ecosystems while ensuring long-term profitability for our members. We work closely with fisheries around the world to help them adopt more sustainable methods such as using selective gear or reducing bycatch.
We also support research into new technologies that can help reduce waste and improve efficiency throughout the supply chain. For example, we have funded projects focused on developing new packaging materials made from renewable resources or improving traceability systems to ensure greater transparency in sourcing.
Another key area of focus for us at Sea Pact is promoting social responsibility within our industry. We believe that all workers involved in producing seafood should be treated fairly and with respect. To this end, we have developed a set of ethical guidelines that all members must adhere to when conducting business.
These guidelines cover issues such as fair labor practices (including no forced labor or child labor), safe working conditions (including adequate training on health & safety), responsible sourcing (including no illegal or unreported fishing), animal welfare (including humane treatment of fish), and environmental stewardship (including reducing waste and pollution).
In addition to our work with fisheries and supply chain partners, Sea Pact also engages in advocacy efforts to promote sustainable seafood practices more broadly. We work with policymakers at the local, national, and international levels to promote policies that support sustainable fishing practices, protect marine ecosystems, and ensure a fair playing field for all businesses in the industry.
Overall, Sea Pact is committed to creating a more sustainable future for our oceans and environment. We believe that by working together as an alliance of like-minded businesses we can achieve greater impact than any one company could on its own.
