They hate being confused with the NHRA and I found that out the hard way when a 60 year old grandmother of 5 beat me with her walking stick. 5 stars because I copped a fell right before she slugged me.

Cycling, hiking, and paddling are all quite good on the SRT. Trail well-maintained, convenient to much of SE PA. We enjoy riding from Valley Forge to Philadelphia - that portion of the trail is all paved and super-interesting/scenic.

I had the best time visiting the Schuylkill River ...

I had the best time visiting the Schuylkill River Greenways yesterday. Our Youth Group from Trinity UCC in Pottstown visited to lear how we can better take care of the water shed in our area. They had fun demonstrations that involved hands on experiments and water testing that taught us about whats in our drinking water which comes from the river. We learned where the schuylkill river trail starts in Pottsville and ensda in Philly. We didnt get to help clean the trail because of the rain but we helped to clean up the road near the college. Staff was very nice and had lots of knowledge. Its a fun little hidden treasure here in Pottstown. Check it out someday.

Free bicycling! Now that I have your attention...yep, free and no strings. The trail conservancy and Tri-County Bicycles on High Street in Pottstown have yellow beach cruisers to lend on presentation of a drivers license. Check the website for schedule.

And now to the trail: the section I rode is 4.5 miles (approx) from the College Drive trailhead to the bridge over the Schuylkill just over the Berks County line. It's essentially level, being a converted rail line. The outbound/northern/upstream direction is a very gradual uphill grade.

The Montgomery County portion is paved and passes old and abandoned factories. It's well-maintained. For me, the best part of today's ride was the Thun Trail (Berks County continuation of same trail) is packed gravel, well-tended, and canopied. The industrial portion of the ride is OK, the Thun Trail was the payoff.

The trail continues north to Birdsboro. We stopped at midpoint on the bridge (trail milepost 47), with the thought to start in Birdsboro with our own bikes next time riding south to Pottstown.
