Father Jack Hurley and the cathedral is like a second home. Forever grateful to be part of this wonderful parish. Thank you and god bless you. Together with the Catholics in the Capital radio show WMET 1160 and the extraordinary host Christina Cox this is the right way to be. Forever grateful and fortunate to have met these wonderful individuals.

Beautiful Cathedral. For history buffs, this is where the funeral for President Kennedy was celebrated, and they have a marker on the floor remembering that event. A few blocks from the White House. Some of the nicest images of the Evangelists I've seen, and use these images often when talking about them.

It's in DC so there's not enough parking around the church. Most attendees parked on the streets adjacent or parallel to it. I parked on 18th St so there's a bit of a walk to the church. The interior of the church is baroque architecture. The art work on the foreground feels like being in a museum.

The Catholic Cathedral of DC, seat of the Archbish...

The Catholic Cathedral of DC, seat of the Archbishop. St Matthew is a beautiful red brick Roman Catholic Church. It has the distinction of being famous for having conducted the requiem mass for President Kennedy. Inside you can find a round marker on the floor that designates where JFK's coffin lied during the service. The Cathedral itself is gorgeous inside. The chapel dedicated to St Francis of Assisi is one of the most beautiful of any church anywhere in the world. So peaceful and beautiful inside, definitely worth a visit to take in the art, architecture, and pay your respects.

Always like attending mass here when in DC. This is where President Kennedy had his funeral. Quiet place to sit and think. There are some people out front asking for money help everytime I have visited.

About 4 times a year, in summer and fall, I enjoy walks around the city of the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, stopping by ST MATTHEWS CATHEDRAL on RHODE ISLAND AVE to hear the 11:30 or 1:00 SUNDAY MASS, then treating myself to light lunches in restaurants nearby...
The cathedral is the place where the family of PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY attended mass during those times they were in WASHINGTON DC. It s where PRESIDENT KENNEDY s funeral was celebrated.
I love this cathedral! It s the first one I knew and went to when I arrived in Washington DC in 1970.
Upon entering the cathedral, I feel so holy and pious. I feel like GOD IS THERE SITTING NEXT TO ME THAT I CAN WHISPER TO HIM HOW I FEEL AND HOW I THANK HIM FOR ALL THE BLESSINGS BESTOWED ON ME AND MY FAMILY..I feel so peaceful!
Eveytime I have visitors from MANILA, I always take them there because it s like going to the MANILA CATHEDRAL and to ST. AUGUSTINE CHURCH in INTRAMUROS, PHILIPINES...

St. Matthew's Cathedral is a beautiful example of Catholic architectural splendor. The multitude of chapels and bursting array of iconography is not to be missed. I only wish there were readily available guides for visitors. If there were, I missed them.

The outside of the building was breathtaking. It was so intricate and beautifully ornate! I really wish that I could have gone inside on our short weekend trip we went here and I ve never seen a church of such stature I was hoping to go inside, but I just don t think it s adequate to charge $18 per person! Thank the good Lord who supported these efforts made the shrine is free.
