Love what this police department is doing to keep the difficult discussion we as a community need to have. Their Real Talk series is something all departments should be doing. Keep up the amazing work!

Called to ask if there was a curfew for the shooting range at Coyote Point as the noise is terrible if you live nearby. 9:00 PM and later I think is unreasonable for residents to be subjected to this. It sounds like a fricken warzone over here. Anyway, the woman who answered was very abrupt rude sarcastic etc as if my question was absurd and showed no empathy at all. I don't need a hug but come on show a little human compassion. She then informed me since it's a county facility I need to call them or the Sheriff's office and it's out of their hands. Excuse me but this IS San Mateo and I'm making a noise complaint so please note it. Then I asked if other residents have called about the noise and she said yes. County owned or not, noise is noise regardless. I think it's sad that as a law abiding citizen you get treated worse than a criminal. Maybe this was an isolated incident but it sure doesn't make me want to call again.
There should be a survey that each person gets after an interaction with the police so that we can help them become better with people. The cop that was dispatched to us at 6am was speaking loudly didn't turn off his blinding lights after me going outside to meet him and didn't seem interested in what was going on since there was no one to arrest. Forgot her name immediately. He pawned it off on another cop who then pawned her off on the ambulance. Seems like a lot of unnecessary money, time, energy, for someone who needed a ride back to their home/ the hospital.
You guys can do much better. Also learn more respect and teach your staff how to speak nicley and be more helpful and take more responsibility. You are a Public Servant after all. You serve US.
Everything else was good, the second cop was super friendly. And they came quick which was nice, so thank you for your help and handling the situation. I just think it didn't need to take over an hour to get her off our property.
rude people. Called to ask for there hours to get a fix it ticket signed and was talked to like I should have already known the hours. I'm not surprised half of the cops are crooks. The cop doesn't even know I can go to any officer I see and ask for them to sign it. These people arnt even educated on there procedures.
Running our business in San Mateo and getting to know various staff from SMPD over time has been a great experience. Every interaction have always been professional and courteous. Thank you for serving our city.
Smpd officers are always courteous, respectful and treat me with dignity. Other policeman on the peninsula should aspire reach the level of professionalism as the San Mateo police department.
Officers, sergeant and lieutenant have no understanding of the publics rights. Very disrespectful and will not even admit when they are wrong. Get over yourself and start serving the people of your community. Respect is earned, not given.
I m very impressed with how fast the police came when I needed them, the officer was compassionate and very diligent. Thank you for keeping me and everyone in San Mateo safe!
I park my car on the street I live on in San Mateo. I do not have a driveway and have no other place to park. I went on vacation and they towed my car for being parked in the same spot for over 72 hours. No signs posted anywhere about this, it's just some ordinance we're supposed to know about. Cost me $820 to get my car back. They could easily post this information on the street signs, but then they wouldn't get all that nice revenue. Be careful not to break the obscure laws they purposefully keep hidden from you. They will make you pay for it if you do.
Prompt actions to help find my stolen car. Finished everything within just half a day. I feel quite impressed by their efficiency in this special COVID time. It is not easy, but all of them are so diligent and friendly. Feel safe to have them in our area!
The department is big and beautiful. The people and police officers are very friendly and important for all people around San Mateo county. There a lot of programs for children and teenagers all the time, it's very important for education. My son participated a program for children about to knows work the police officers. He loved. Thank you so much for protect and keep safe us everyday.
I live in the apartments that are in the street lago, they have been stealing packages, we have seen the suspicious people, I want to know where I can denounce because they are stolen two my packages
I was a victim of a robbery at gun point. I was very scared and in shock for several hours after the incident. Officer Edward Han #161 DECIDED I may have a motive for the robbery; so instead of helping me, he started harrasing me.
After seeing 2 lawyers and 2 pshicologist; and they all got a chance to review the police report done by Officer Edward Han #161, the 4 of them came to see that officer Han is racists and has serious personal issues against immigrants; as the report is focused solely in the fact that I'm an immigrant in the USA and it doesn't emphasizes or says much about the incident itself .
Officer Edward Han #161 MUST be placed through a psychological test; prior to continue dealing with human beings.
Horrible department such a disgrace to San Mateo county I called in to make a domestic abuse report and was never followed up also went to drop off a restraining order against my abusive ex they refused to serve him the filled restraining order! If something happeneds to me SMPD did nothing for me.
It's absolutely amazing when your girlfriend gets beaten up by her dad and you can't call the police because they blocked you. Absolutely amazing. They blocked me because I called from Belgium. Great.
Perhaps overdue but Chief Manheimer runs a top notch force. What a contrast to Palo Alto who took it upon themselves to evict me when I had a lease without any legal papers filed. That would never happen on her watch. Strict yet fair. In moments of my stress, all officers were cool calm and collected. Trained in San Francisco, she knows her job well. Respected by all as moral is quite high. This is her secret weapon like Menlo Park's chief and force.
We can't express how grateful we are for the SMPD. These officers are wicked smart, hard working, and proactive - I have lived in many major cities and know the difference between meh and excellent police departments; they are definitely not all the same. Thank you for your excellent service.
Great PD. I always call with some mundane concerns and they always answer me with warmth and detailed answers. Glad they are trained to do so, and sad to see many misconceptions about the cops.
Bought a fixer upper with expired tags. Just as I'm ready to take it to get a smog and start the registration process it gets towed. With no notice. No warning. No chalk. Nothing. I called in and it took me forever to get any useful information. They just kept passing me around from department to department. They all treated me with zero respect even though I came at them respectfully. Nearly all of the staff was rude and talked over me. One even started screaming at me while I was trying to explain my situation because it's not as simple as "come get your car and pay the fees". It's like another reviewer said. They could easily give a warning before something serious happens but then they will miss out on the revenue. Any PD in San Mateo county is like this. They are by the book with no chance of warnings or even letting you know something is wrong before things get serious.
