I'm pregnant in 38 week and I was left to wait 1 hour to my appointment and when I asked why only I wait and everyone else who came after me are in , I was told that I need to wait until their break ends and probably someone will be able to see me. I received 3 reminders about this appointment 2 days ahead and at the same time couldn't get in to be seen by the doctor on time. I was asked to wait one more hour. So I left. I felt absolutely discriminated and left in my condition without any explanation why I was not seen by my new doctor. The 2 times befor I saw her and also was left to wait for over 40 min. Also she wanted me to do some tests , but the way she asked was scary and I really felt like my baby is not well. This was also not professional. The results was fine. Also the Doctor asked me to do a glucose test for one hour just to tell me after that that I have to do the most accurate one for 3 hours while fasting.... I really do not understand why I had to do it while not fasting since it was not accurate. I felt stupid to agree without checking first. One star for my experience!

I've been a patient here a couple of times over the years. At the moment I am finishing up a week stay for amputation due to diabetes. They have changed their game up since the last time I was here years ago not to mention how everything's much newer and nurses are much more personable they are seem to be better trained and quite frankly a great bunch of people. I'm on the second floor and they are all great. the food I would give three but then again I am on a low-carb low-sugar the truth Karen disgusting diet. I'm trying to get out of here today but it seems like your menstruation getting me some money to go home and take care of myself and have home nursing. I was only supposed to be here I gave it to you now I realize all this is due to the fact I don't care and we pretty well here I am not that I'm sad to go but my memories will be good. Congratulations on San Mateo making it not a terrible place to be special note to Mel she is by far the best I've ever had and if I can remember I've had probably 40 not just now but other times parking sucks but it is a hospital that it's a lot of different kind of patients are differ
ent kind of problems practiced a lot of these things. Vikings kicking in coming to the break oh one more thing I complained about my roommate watching too much TV area noisy and they move me to a private room how great is that really good people and also getting better and I give him a 5 thanks guys. Calling some of the nurses are real Lookers. Thanks again

This is for the innovative care clinic upstairs. Doctors are decent, but receptionist's never answer the phone. I always have to contact a different department just to get my meds refilled. Ridiculous. They need to hire some new help and get rid of the lazy ones there now.

The nursing and administrative staff could use some training.

It's ok, the food is okay, I stayed here for 2 days because I had a high fever in 2009 and everything went well!

This place should be ashamed. I will save the readers the graphic details, but the way the treated my 80 year old mom was despicable. If helping people and showing respect to the elderly is not your thing, then find another industry.

The male OB/GYN made some pretty inappropriate comments to me over the phone. I'm calling back to cancel my appointment with him and I've been on hold for over half an hour. These people will not pick up the phone.

Horrible medical center. Place looks like it s under code. Wait times are way to long. Especially when there not busy. Go else where!!

Make Medi-Cal the payor. Recommended for in person contact if you screw up the phone.

My Dad fell down and was taken by the EMTs to this facility. Wi-Fi slow but the patient rooms are BIG and can handle many family members. Cafe is very good. Downside is lousy parking.

The staff is so rude. It's obvious that they do not care about anything other than their next smoke break. There are three other hospitals in the area and I'm hoping that they will outperform this one, it'd be pretty hard not to. Save yourself.

you can expect a terrible bedside manner, plus no smoking- no matter how long youre there.

The doctors and staff here don't see patients as human. It's just a job. I understand the covid got people upset and scared but does it make sick people any less human?

So i go in to the emergency room on Monday in great pain from my ulcer. They run some tests i seem to stabilize and they release me. The doctor tells me to see my primary care doctor. That very evening the pain returns and im still in great pain tuesday morning when im back in the emergency room. Doctor Jessica Chu runs the exact same tests as the ones that where done on Monday. Once i stabilize she releases me. Never for a moment do they find that its odd that im back for the second day in a row and perhaps she should order an endoscopy for me A.S.A.P. That evening i was back in pain again until i was able to get an endoscopy done a few days latter.This review is only for my experience with Miss Chu..

Very slow service I waited for an hour and the medicines were not even packed, also very slow wifi.

Writing specifically about my ER experience from having a severe allergic reaction to Poison Oak. I ll spare you on the why and how it happened but I m compelled to write this review out of the genuine love and care I received this week from this group, during two separate visits.

The whole staff, from intake all the way up to my new favorite ER Dr were amazing!

Side note, The SMC Sheriff on duty was awesome as well.

They re really organized, work as a team, are well informed and provide exceptional care. I witnessed this at all levels of their services, both for myself and the other patients around me. The professionalism was second to none.

To all of you at SMMC ER, my family and I can not thank you enough for all that you do. I hope not to be back anytime soon but I ll always recommend you guys and trust if I need help again, you ll be there.

Service in here so bad. Always slowly. And the stuff in here not really love their s job. Always unhappy faces showing to the patients.

OBGYN office can really step their game up. After messing up my prescription 3x's and no care about my time being wasted, im going to be looking elsewhere for future treatment.

Been goong to this med cemter for years. Really like me doc (Dr. Gooze) here. She's smart and personable. Done some great things for me over the years. Highly recommended.

The nursing staff are horrible. They care little about patients or their safety. The bureaucratic system for the emergency room is like a DMV. If you can't take a loved one to any other hospital, please do the humane thing and put them down. Otherwise they will.

If you have an appointment at 10:00, plan to be here for the day. I've had every appointment go this way. The scheduling is rediculous! Months out to be seen? What kind of system is allowed to operate this way?
HORRIBLE OPERATION!

This is the worst service I have ever gotten at a hospital. There was only 1 nurse who was nice to me, he was really helpful and I really liked him. However, I had so many other bad encounters. One nurse insisted I got an iv and I told him I would rather have a glass of water. Then I asked him about something and he walked out and ignored me and acted like a brat. When I puked and called for help, the nurses where all on their phones and ignored my cries for help. My dad got a bag I could puke in the last moment. I felt dehydrated after puking and for a long time the hospital refused to give me a glass of water. It was also extremely innefient with hours of waiting time long into the night and when the nurses do visited, many of them were superficial and left again in a few seconds. Everything was innefient.

I was there about 2 hours. Everyone I talked to that worked there was very kind, patient, and helpful. The only thing that was difficult was trying to find parking. I had to walk quite a distance, so if you can have some drop you off, that would be helpful.

It looks like the staff is doing all the 5 star reviews - I guess they know how bad the care is.

Here was my laundry list of concerns:

Hospital Issues

1. Cleanliness of the hospital

A. Patient room since admission has never been sanitize appropriately

Floors never been bleach out. When a patient is walking into a shared bathroom that is full of Feces and Pee on the floor then walking on those unsanitized conditions and transmitting such germs and or viruses into the patients injured foot and room as well and any other areas that patient maybe walking through.

B. When is mandatory for visitors to wear masks while in patients room however nurses with a cough are in the room coughing over patient's "open wound" without a mask.

C. Students of the nursing department visiting room that it's mandatory to have mask and or other protective gear walking in room totally unprotected.

2. Nursing Care

A. When Informing nurses of low blood sugar to a dangerous zone, then we are impose with a medical question as to why our sugar is low? Instead of treating the immediate threat and convey the information to the doctor in charge. We are patient not a treating physician.

B. Doctor advised one way to care of patient foot and nurse provides a different way of care.

And example the way they clean up the food doctor says do it one way explain to a head nurse but then their follow-up is done completely differently

C. Food servers coughing into patients foods without a mask

D. Nurse Going into personal belongings without patient consent confiscating already ordered diabetic test strips allegedly supposed to use 4 per day but doctor had order more to watch sugar very close.

Diabetic guidelines require 7 testing per day, especially when your sugar is inconsistent.

"The symptoms of severe low blood sugar develops when level of blood sugar drops below 35-40mg/dL. And then begin seizures or convolusions. Prolonged severe hypoglycemia can cause insulin shock, irreversible brain damage and heart problems, particularly in people who have coronary artery disease. If left untreated, it can be very dangerous, resulting in coma or even death."

E. Nurses night time are chatting personal events thus not allowed patient to sleep

3. Doctor problems

A. I'm questioning doctor's competency when treating patient with insulin knowing that his sugar goes super low to a coma stage and he's ordering to pump extra insulin units.

Patients feel that they have to look out of every move this medical professionals are doing so patient can stay alive.

4. Social Workers

A. Been promising set of specializing shoes that have never being materialized.

B. Not been providing information of what he is doing with patient disability claim.

C. Housing not available only empty premises no progress reports.

5. Privacy concerns in share rooms when doctors, social workers and other staff asking sensitive information. (Everyone can hear it A Total Violation of HIPA

6. Alergies tag not provided to patient when patient is allergic to shorten medicines.

June 16th,horrible.Went to e.r waited2 hrs for a Dr. The nurse was despicable they isolated me for no reason I did not present with any covid-19 symptomsI came in with chest pains no water no IV fluids nothing 6 hours I left

You have to go see Jenny, when you go here. She is super nice, and understanding to a next level.

She didn't even check me when 5 minutes passed and she said oh its normal and said well have a good day

I went to the emergency room because I felt pain on my foot. I waited for 3 and a half hours and still I haven t been called. I asked the staff if I was next to be called but they told me that my injury was not serious so I need to wait longer. There I see a doctor playing Minecraft on his computer, I got so angry at how bad their service is and left. This hospital is by far the worst I ve been to. I am very very disappointed and wasted my almost 4 hours. Never coming to this hospital again.

I give this hospital for stars because from my experience in hospitals has been worse than my experience at this Hospital the doctor seem like they're better quality the nurses were listening more to my concerns and what I needed to know they're more informative I've been too low in hospitals before that gave me very poor service so I appreciate them for this

Don't be surprised to be in the waiting line for an hour or so. Staff is lazy sometimes.
Also, sometimes Nurses and Doctors don't hand off their reports very well. Like in my case, the Nurse brought up every thing I could ask for except the (what do they call these days) PRESCRIPTION!!

I have the best experience every time I go there , I go to my appointment early and I leave early,the nurses and doctors have compassion for their patients I like that

This place isn't what it used to be,but they do their best with whom they have to deal with

I just went to my bed and got a bleeding from mariz for two days and they didn't give him anything and they didn't give him anything, they didn't confirm anything, they just think it's normal

I just called because my daughter has been sick the whole week I needed an appointment with her pediatrician and they told me they don t have any right now the lady I spoke to was rude and she did not help at all I m thinking of changing my kids to a different hospital I do love Dr. Rachel Borovina but every time I go I wait 1-2 hours even with appointments it s ridiculous and I told the lady I need a doctor s note and she was like what are u calling again for and I told her my daughters symptoms and she said the nurse Advice Line was going to contact me If I needed to call the nurse Advice Line I d do it myself I need an appointment for my daughter not advise from the nurses thank u very much

Worst!!! I've been trying to call OBGYN for almost 2days and nobody's picking up my call!!!!! and I call the number of hospital to forward my call to OBGYN still........ NOBODY ANSWERING MY CALL

HORRIBLE!! I waited 5 hours for my boyfriends uncle to come out... it wasn't even packed! Bad service!

Slow staff. They don't know what to do with your info, that is if they even keep the record of it.

They don t try to solve your problem they re lazy in the dental office
First they told me we have appointment after 3 weeks when I accepted after that they told me you need specialist to take out your teeth and he came after one month I don t know why this hospital hire this kind of people that they don t try to solve our problems

SMMC is an excellent medical care and treatment facility. I am satisfied with the medical attention I have received from the doctors who have rendered their professional medical services for my health and wellness.

I like the Meditation Room on the 2nd Floors of the hospital, where one can retire or retreat from worldly concerns to spend precious time in silent meditation.

May SMMC continue to bless the rest of the world in the same manner it has benefited me.

Psych Emergency Dept is the worst! They don t help patients! Dr Leon and Nurse Mark are the worst! I highly recommend mills peninsula and mills heath center in San Mateo. They have trained professionals who really help patients

Horrible experience/ multiple times. They don't seem to really care about their patients. Go somewhere else if you can.

You will die before u get service from these people. Be prepared to wait for hours on the phone and then be hung up on. My knee is in so much pain that I can hardly walk but I was placed on hold and hung up on after waiting for an hour. Even after that I would have been transferred around and never gotten through to anyone. I even gave the dispatcher my phone number right at the beginning and asked her to call me if we were disconnected because it always seems to happen at this place.
I've waited all day at their pharmacy and emergency room and received horrible service.

It is a very professional place, very clean, a very pleasant environment, increasingly tidy, first-hand staff help without hesitation to those who need it and those who do not too, very fast and efficient, open 24 hours 7 days a week talking differently. Languages English / Spanish Most of the staff, also very accessible and comfortable for the disabled, have more than 2 elevators and also a dining room and vending machines, in simple words a magnificent hospital.

I really love the service and the Staff.

It was ok. Everyone was kind.

Just the cafeteria thought needed more smiles. The cashier was serious, but when a doctor from the hospital passed by, all happy smiles and talkative. When someone else passed by, just gave a look like "hurry up, I dont have all day".
Hopefully next time I pass by there will be equal treatment to everyone. Not just someone with a pass.

This place was ok! They charged too much money and have super slow service in the E.R.

Having back and hip pain that has progressed to job hindering this week I ve been very distraught and in pain. Though I was treated by a primary care doctor and have been pointed to physical therapy I am very disappointed in the lack of empathy, the lack of questions regarding the pain, any compassion. The doctor was minimizing the issue I was having and did not seem interested at all with what I was going through. Even putting in my chart acute back pain when clearly it s progressed further or I wouldn t be here. Coming to a doctor should be relieving and confident in the care you receive that it will help your issue I left the office in tears and with robotic answers of people just trying to do their job and not actually stopping their script to understand the patient this was not a pleasant experience.

A family member of mine got diagnosed with lung cancer and these people barely checked up on her and gave her a lot of pills to take and then end up saying that she should stop taking them. And for some reason the nurse wanted us to wait a whole month almost 2 to check and see if her cancer was in her lungs or everywhere in her body. I was so mad that we had to wait for that long I get covid is still a thing but it s like these people don t see anyone as human. They ll probably just leave you there to die. And friends who ve been there have told us a lot of bad things about this hospital and that we should move to either Stanford or mills peninsula.

The hospital has everything. Enough equipment, enough nurses and doctors but the problem is I think they were not well trained to give right medication to patient.they are not taking that care about the patient even the emergency wards. Cause I took my friend here four times . He has severe back pain but still he is not ok.

Very poor workers here!!!! Everything about this place is horrible!!!! The nurse was nice but other then that everyone else here just doesn't seem to care. Rather die than coming here.

My dad spent two months in the SMC ICU, and the entire team of Nurses, Doctors and RTs were absolutely amazing - attentive, knowledgeable and caring. They truly showed compassion for my dad, and I greatly appreciate the attention they gave him during the most difficult time of his life.

It was really busy. Special thanks to nurse Julia and Dr. Julie for taking fantastic care of me despite trying to take all my blood. Also I was there for 11 hours and never neglected.

This is the worst Hospital with very bad management! I don't recommend this hospital! I will die before I go in this horrible hospital!

It's really busy here ha?! If you have a injection in 2 Ab Congratulations, you may have to wait for over 30mins

ER wait time 6 hours 1 doctor 100 patients , don't go die better at home

Let me tell ya. These folks are amazing. My experience was crappy in the beginning, I'm alone with severe abdominal pain, never used the ER before. Had to park offsite and walk due to crowding. Got in, gave info, got checked in all within 30 mins. Saw a doctor 1.5hrs from admission and the nurses/doctor have just been incredible though. So thoughtful and thorough and kind. I appreciate their hard work in helping me and everyone here. I know wait times suck, but the people working here really care and are doing their best with what they have. #medicareforall please!

This placed saved me from the worst cough i ever experienced ! I had a cough that was really bad for 2 weeks i couldn't sleep and I had really bad mucus coming up it was horrible i was diagnosed bronchitis and they helped right away in the ER , the nurse that helped me was really funny gave me great advice to change my health for my child since i have high blood pressure and she wants me to enjoy being active and there for my child , the doctor was really nice he was very informative ,gave me good advice to get rid of sickness and gave me medicine to get better . the wait time isnt so bad but it is the ER it'll take some time to get final diagnoses and such . thank you san mateo medical center and the nurse and doctor who saw me

It took THREE hours to be seen when we showed up on time for our appointment. The waiting room was extremely hot & when asked to adjust the temperature it didn't help much. It was complete chaos in the waiting room with many patients very upset. We were told the MRI department would be calling us with an appointment. They never did so I called them only to find that whoever (the nurse or doctor) ordered the MRI appointment failed to request an immediate appointment so the earliest appointment I could get was SEVERAL months out. Calling the medical center to straighten this out took me SEVERAL HOURS!!! There was no one to answer the phone. What an incredible waste of time! Anyone with half a brain would know the MRI should be ordered FIRST and then the doctors appointment afterward. So now we have to come back two more times and wait several hours I'm sure. This place sucks!!!

I always get great care. Sometimes there might be a wait but my doctors are always thorough.
