Sacramento Region Community Foundation: Connecting People Who Care with Local and Regional Causes That Matter
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Sacramento region since 1983. The foundation's mission is to connect people who care with local and regional causes that matter, by providing philanthropic services, community leadership, and grantmaking programs.
Philanthropic Services
The foundation offers a range of philanthropic services to individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who want to make a positive impact in their community. These services include donor-advised funds, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, endowment funds, legacy giving options such as bequests and life insurance policies.
Donor-advised funds are one of the most popular ways for donors to give through the foundation. Donors can establish their own fund with an initial contribution of $10k or more. They can then recommend grants from their fund to any qualified nonprofit organization in the region or beyond.
Charitable gift annuities are another way for donors to support their favorite charities while receiving fixed payments for life. The foundation manages these annuities on behalf of donors and distributes payments annually.
Charitable remainder trusts allow donors to transfer assets such as stocks or real estate into a trust that pays them income for life or a set term before distributing remaining assets to charity upon death.
Endowment funds are permanent funds established by donors that generate income annually for specific charitable purposes in perpetuity.
Community Leadership
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation also provides community leadership by convening stakeholders around critical issues affecting the region. The foundation works closely with local government agencies, nonprofits organizations and other partners on initiatives related to education & workforce development; health & human services; arts & culture; environment & sustainability; civic engagement & social justice among others.
One example of this work is the "Big Day of Giving" which was launched in 2013 as an annual online giving event aimed at raising awareness about local nonprofits while encouraging donations from individuals across all sectors including business leaders , philanthropists , students etc . In 2020 alone over $12 million was raised during this event benefiting over 600 nonprofits serving our communities .
