A job change had us looking for a new childcare op...

A job change had us looking for a new childcare option for our twin boys we had used a nanny and a home-based daycare. From my first phone call setting up a tour through the end of the tour, I knew this was the right place for us. I felt right at home from the moment I walked in the doors, every space in the center is well thought out and we could just tell our boys were going to enjoy learning and playing there.

I loved the fact that RESCC is a NAEYC-accredited, nonprofit child development center with a parent directed board. It was great knowing that all the center's children would take part in special additional programs including: cultural music, creative art, Spanish, yoga, and interactive musical and dramatic performances. The families from the center will often meet up for play-dates on the weekends at parks in the Reston/Herndon area. It really feels like an extended family.

Communication was/is something that we were concerned about when we were exploring childcare options. Communication with the staff has been amazing. I have never had a conversation with the staff and walked away thinking that they just weren't understanding what I was trying to say. The daily blog and newsletter during the school year helps us reinforce and build upon the themes learned during the day at home.

Our twin boys thrived as individuals at Simon Center and made a successful transition to kindergarten. Our third son is currently enrolled and I am sill as pleased with the center as I was 5 years ago when our twins started.

Such a great, warm, family-like atmosphere for my two kids to attend. The teachers and staff are so loving to my kids and my kids love them right back! As sad as it is to leave them at drop-off, it's a comfort knowing they are in great hands during the day!

Our child has attended the Simon Center for three years and we love it. The staff is very friendly and cares about our child s development. Each room she s been in has had great staff, appropriately aged classmates she has been playing with for years, and lots of fun activities. I would highly recommend the Simon Center to any family in the Reston

I strongly recommend the Simon Center...we have had at least one child there for more than 6 years and I will be so sad when our youngest graduates at the end of this year! The staff are amazing, they all know and love all of the kids, we get lots of information and opportunities to talk with them about how our child is doing, and they use approaches to teaching young children through play that are research-based. The food is great, the activities are amazing, and it really feels like a community of families. My older child is 8 and still has play dates with Simon Center friends. I have felt good about being a full-time working parent with little ones in part because my kids have been so happy here. Check out the website, and take a tour...hopefully you will love this place as much as we do.

My five year old son has been here just a few weeks and loves it. The staff is very friendly and gives off a great community vibe, the parents are involved, and its a very friendly environment. After having a bad experience at my son's previous school, I am thrilled to say that I feel completely confident in the Robert E. Simon's school's ability to make my son happy, well-rounded, and provide an excellent learning environment for him. I would definitely recommend this school to parents.

Both of our children attended Simon Center - my youngest "graduating" this past summer. Our family found the center offered a warm, welcome environment where the staff truly knew each child personally. We appreciated the great year-round schedule and hours of operation that provided maximum flexibility for our family. The center really has a warm, welcome feel with a play-based curriculum where our children thrived - and of course, my kids loved the catered meals!

I couldn't be more thrilled with Robert E. Simon Children Center. We enrolled our child in the Center about 1.5 years ago and not a day goes by that we aren't grateful for the teachers and their thoughtful curriculum and creativity. The teachers integrate fun and learning into each age level. My child gets to experience new activities every day, such as making and flying kites, using puppets, finger painting, "cooking" things like strawberries and cream, and building cars and trains as a class. One of my child's favorite activities is reading one-on-one with her teacher every morning. My child learns about weather, seasons, holidays, occupations, animals, and the list goes on and on. The teachers provide regular feedback tailored for each child and communicate daily with the parents. I like that I can augment the lessons of the week at home with my child. It is clear that the Center makes it a priority to provide a safe, enjoyable, and educational environment. I think the Center is a little pricey, but we soon realized that the monthly tuition is worth it.

This is a long review, but hey it's your kid(s). D...

This is a long review, but hey it's your kid(s). Do your research, right?

I have two kids enrolled (4y.o. since he was 2, and 15m.o. old since she was an infant), and I can't imagine them being anywhere else. Let me break it down:

Learning: They are learning so much, and having so much fun! Letters (writing and reading), counting, world music and cultures, Spanish, yoga, songs, games, social stuff - you name it. 4y.o. has so much fun telling us about the things he learns each day and the friends he's made, and I know it is because his teachers make each day so full of fun.

Staff: Speaking of teachers, these people are just the best. They truly love their jobs, and each child is treated with respect, compassion and joy. They share updates daily, with photos, emails, and friendly/helpful check-ins at drop-off and pick-up. Professionalism, PATIENCE (with parents and kids, let's be honest), thoughtfulness, and genuine care.

Facility: Clean, bright, welcoming - just like a school should be! There is also a clear focus on safety and related protocol. And the food! Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included.

The Simon Center is really a great community. Parents are invited/encouraged to contribute to things like the board (parent directed), in the classrooms, on special projects, via fundraisers, and more, but it is low pressure and fun.

If you're looking for childcare in the Reston/Herndon/Sterling/Vienna area, give this place a call and visit.

Our family cannot recommend this center enough. Ou...

Our family cannot recommend this center enough. Our eldest just left for kindergarten, but we have our other two kids here and they just love it. The staff treat us just like family. One thing that is really unique here that I have not seen at any other childcare places (oh yea, we toured almost all of them in Reston/Herndon) is a dedication to smaller classes for the young ones. For example, other facilities will have a class for age range 2-3yrs old. That s shocking because a 2 yr old is so different developmentally from a 3 yr old. Therefore, I ve always appreciated that they have classes with roughly 6mos age range (12-16mos, 16-24mos, 2-2.5yrs, 2.5-3yrs). It allows for an age appropriate curriculum, smaller classrooms, and the amazing staff really knowing your child.

Since RESCC is a non profit, they really pour money into teacher training and extra activities for the kids. Our kids love showing us their yoga moves, randomly counting in Spanish and the names of various musical instruments. They have great weather policies (thank goodness for those of us who are dual working parents) and they use the Good Food Company, a local, organic, catering kitchen, for the kids food.

I loved this place after I toured it, but I m not from this area so the price was higher than what I was used too. Therefore, we went to three different places to save money, but we ended up here because RESCC is just the best and therefore worth it! I wish we would ve just started here. We had terrible experience with staff, unprofessional administrators, and other medical issues at those previous places (not surprisingly two of them closed down). For us, it was worth the price to see our first child thrive here. We could tell immediately how much more comfortable he was, and honestly, how much better the staff was. RESCC has been providing childcare for over 25 yrs. so that really says something. Yea, they know what they re doing and have very experienced staff.

It was then and is still worth now the temporary budget prioritizing for our kids to go to an amazing place that focuses on their development, staff who treats us like family, and the fun and loving parent community. I don t know how RESCC do it but I love listening to my kids tell me things that they ve learned - planets and different moons in the solar system, the butterfly lifecycle of the pulpa turning into a crystalis. Or maybe it was the other way around - hmmmm - I think I have to have my kids teach me again.

Leaving your children in the care of others can be...

Leaving your children in the care of others can be a very scary proposition for new parents, and the Simon Center has met and exceeded all of my expectations. As the result of a very scary incident with our first day care provider which included receiving a call from Child Protective Services (a call that no parent wants to ever receive), we immediately enrolled our then 2 year old in the Simon Center. Because we have had the experience of attending two different childcare centers, we were able to compare them, and the Simon Center wins hands down.

Enrichment opportunities: Weekly activities include yoga, art, Spanish, and Music for Life (where a music teacher introduces new songs and instruments from around the world). In addition, Mother Goose visits monthly and the children can dress up in costumes and act out different plays. On top of that, Mr. Bill comes to teach the children about the Chinese New Year and other celebratory occasions. The librarian comes monthly as well to read to the children and encourage their interest in books.

Staff and Directors: The staff have always been loving, communicative, and helpful. The staff turnover is low, and several teachers have been at the Simon Center for decades. They all know how to interact with children and are so patient. They provide daily emails and pictures describing the day's activities, as well as a monthly newsletter. The Directors are on top of everything. When a medical form isn't returned timely, they will follow up. When a child moves to the next class, they will immediately update the class roster and parent email list.

Food: The Simon Center has great catering. The meals are healthy, the menus are available in advance, and the children eat together family style, serving themselves.

Fun Events: The Simon Center puts on a wonderful family fiesta each year. They have an ice cream truck, a photo booth, and many games for the kids and their families. In addition, they have a book fair, pajama days, and a Thanksgiving feast for families to attend.

Facility: The facility is clean and safe. They practice safe storage techniques as cleaning agents are stored behind locked cabinets. They have a locked facility so that only family members and staff can gain entry.

They are a non-profit with no parent hour requirements. They are almost always open which is important when both parents work. I have had at least one child at the Simon Center for the last 4 years, and I could not be more pleased.

I've had at least one child there for the last 5 years. We've tried out other day care facilities, but this is by far the best one we've been to. The staff turnover is very low which is a big difference between a place like this and well known places like goddard and kindercare. Another difference is that several of the board members have children who attend. They put their money, and children, where their mouth are.
