About Riding for the disabled association
Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is a UK-based charity organization that has been providing therapeutic horse riding sessions to disabled children and adults for over 50 years. The organization was founded in 1969 with the aim of improving the lives of people with disabilities through horse riding and other equine activities.
Today, RDA operates across the UK, with over 500 centers offering riding sessions to more than 25,000 disabled individuals each year. The organization's mission is to provide opportunities for therapy, achievement, and enjoyment through horse riding and carriage driving.
The benefits of horse riding for people with disabilities are well-documented. Riding can help improve balance, coordination, muscle strength, and flexibility. It can also boost confidence and self-esteem while providing a sense of freedom and independence.
At RDA centers across the country, trained volunteers work alongside qualified instructors to provide safe and enjoyable riding experiences for participants. Each session is tailored to meet individual needs and goals.
In addition to therapeutic riding sessions, RDA also offers carriage driving programs that allow participants who may not be able to ride a chance to experience the joy of being around horses.
Riding for the Disabled Association relies heavily on donations from individuals and organizations in order to continue its important work. Fundraising efforts include sponsored rides, events such as dressage competitions or fun days out at local stables or farms where visitors can meet some of our horses up close!
