When trying to translate concepts into visuals, the process is intimidating and frustrating..., except Fred, Tarn, Kavita and the rest of the team at Refuge were able to translate our abstract concepts into compelling composites and beautiful effects shots. They worked tirelessly for weeks to create butterfly motion paths that evoked childhood innocence but spoke to the darker forces at work in our story ("Amy & Sophia"). They engineered a way to make our clunkily captured green screens fit seamlessly into our movie.
They proposed and executed extras and flourishes along the way that didn't raise our budget but did raise the value of the movie we made. They tackled sequences and corralled elements beyond our initial scope of work not because they had to, but because they cared about the finished product - and they did it graciously, quickly and with a consummate professionalism that makes me eager to get more work to bring to them.
We didn't pick Refuge because they were close (I live in Denver, and they don't). We picked them because they're film-makers and story-tellers and the kind of partners you'd be lucky to have on your team.
Thank you Refuge. You kick ass!
