AMAZING!! I was seriously blown away by the quality of the food served here! I had been longing to find a good Chinese eatery since I moved to Charleston and I have now found it. I am now a loyal customer and plan to stay as such. I suggest new customers to try the money bags, vegetable buns, hot and sour soup, and/or the green bean chicken. However, whatever you do choose you will not be disappointed!!

Outstanding. This is how Chinese Food should taste. Delicious sauces, fresh rice, crunchy vegetables. I had the General's Tofu (my favorite). Service was prompt and courteous. Go early as the restaurant fills up fast.
Red Orchids has been one of our favorite restaurants ever since it opened. Last night we decided to treat ourselves. Unfortunately the wine and their hot mustard sauce were the highlights of the meal. Service was sub-par. My beef with More
Prior to coming here, I read that Stockton was #8 in the top 10 Most Dangerous City in the Country. Yikes! There was a crime rate of 1,408 for a population of 300,000 people. For this reason, I tried to pick a hotel that seems the safest and this hotel was our answer
Fantastic staff and food. Trust me, I'm Chinese and picky about "American" Chinese restaurants. The food is on par with foods I've eaten in Chinatown. Food is fresh and hot! Thank goodness no buffet! Tony and his wait staff are awesome! For a small, local food restaurant they have a good selection of Bourbon. Go...you won't regret it!
I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant before. My boyfriend went in for dinner, we both ordered a beer which was not cold at all. We then ordered dumplings and steamed pork buns for appetizers, the dumplings were chewy and greasy , the pork buns were not cooked through and gritty. Our entrees were less than great as well, he had chicken that was very tough and I had tangerine chicken that wasn't bad but didn't taste as I'd hoped. The rice was mushy and way too sweet. For $75 I expected much better.
Always been one of the best Asian places in town but I think maybe they moved their good staff over to the new Mt Pleasant location this year because recently it's been subpar and extremely overpriced for what you get. Chopstick House downtown will do you a far superior sesame chicken with more food for half the cost.
I am astounded at the reviews of this restaurant. This may be one of the worst eating experiences of my life. I tried this restaurant based off of the glowing reviews I found here and boy were they wrong. My GF and I order spring rolls and two Entree's along with fried rice. Everything seemed old and reheated. The General Tso was awful. The Chicken had to have been sitting for a least several days before being reheated. The fried rice that accompanied my meal was dry, blackened and crunchy. The meal was so bad that for the first time in my life, we both stopped eating after just a few bites and trashed the entire meal. We went to McDonald's for a fast hunger fix, which wasn't much better, and I went to bed feeling sick. If people here are serious about their reviews, I seriously question your ability to review anything. The one star that I gave this place is too high of a rating. EAT AT your own RISK.
I m not one to complain about takeout because I m grateful I didn t have to cook, but this was a very poor experience. The staff was great! But the food was ultimately bad. I spent 30 dollars on two lunch specials and hospital coke. The broccoli was undercooked and my rice is half cooked in some places and mushy in others; it was also just white rice doused in soy sauce. It also smelled like socks, not sure why.
THE best Chinese restaurant in Charleston, hands down. Having grown up in NYC, Chinese food is a staple, and this is the absolute best I ve had. Service is great, and the owners are incredibly lovely people. Everything is tasty... the house special red snapper, and the ribs are my two of my favorites.
Honestly I've been coming here for years and I've been remiss in not writing a review before. In my opinion this was one of the best "traditional" Chinese places in the Charleston area. However this last time when we took our combined families here for a post wedding dinner it has definitely changed since the last time I had been there. 1. The portions sizes have shrunken considerably 2. Some of the food was great while some was ok 3. Staff still very attentive with even a party of 16 If I could give it 3.5 stars I would.
Excellent service, amazing food, great owners, a small family operation that offers great food for great prices. One of the best Chinese establishments in the entire metro region.
Over price and over rated. It doesn't taste like the Chinese food you eat in Chinatown in New York city. Chinese people in Manhattan don't add green sweet peas to their fried rice dishes. What's that all about. Chinese food here to greasy.
This place is a godsend. I ve never had such good Chinese food. The general chow is literally a quarter of a chicken breast in each piece, and it s the white meat!
Food was really good and fresh. I ordered a Margarita and that was really good as well. Then, my sister found a staple. Yes, a staple in her Pancit. Owner came & apologized & offered to remake it himself. She agreed and took it to go. Would had been nice if he did that and also took it off of her ticket, but....
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside. It's nice inside, though.
I've retired three times to try new things and I was not disappointed. My favorites are hot and sour soup and tangerine chicken. The ice cream was a perfect finish.
Food was really good and the portions were fantastic. The waitress did not refill our drinks or even offer. We waited almost 30 minutes for to go drinks and a bag to carry our boxes in (that never came)
I came here for lunch yesterday; it has been about my 5th time there, and I can say it impressed me each and every time. The food is delicious, and if you sit at the grill, you can see them cooking the food in front of you. So amazing
My husband and I love this place and the owner. We drive all the way from Summerville to get their steamed buns. Everything tastes great and the atmosphere is very nice. Wait staff has always been great too.
This place is easily the best restaurant in West Ashley and may be my family's favorite in Charleston, no lie. If you're in the area go check it out. Order anything on the menu and you'll love it.
We usually love Red Orchid and it s the General Chus chicken that keeps us coming back. I was disappointed last night. The service was a bit slow to start and then once someone got to us it was ok. The appetizers were really good - but I was SO disappointed that the General Chus chicken that keeps us coming back - was AWFUL. I don t know what happened - but it was WAY over cooked and dried out. Hopefully this isn t the new norm and just an isolated incident. I didn t complain because we had movie tickets and we were in a rush...but next time if it s not right I might not be coming back.
Really good Chinese food. The crab wontons are really good. The pork dumplings were also very good. I got the beef specialty plate that comes with rice. It wasnt my favorite of what all I tried but was still good. I would recommend eating here if you like Chinese food.
Food is great, but customer service is horrible. Kelly has a smart mouth and looks down upon black people, my money is green like everyone else.I was treated horrible when placing my food it's a shame today will be my last day spending my money here.
We are used to having Chinese food from No. VA and NYC. Sorry, this place is fine for the Charleston suburbs but it was not good enough for us to want to go back. It was clean and the waiter was nice and friendly, and everything came hot and timely.
You know that classic music you get when you sit down in a Chinese restaurant, and it makes you feel like you're in the Orient? This place does not have that music. Humorously, it was Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and it was awesome. Took my parents here for their first Charleston Chinese experience, and we ordered three appetizers with three entrees. Dessert consisted of fortune cookies, because we were full at that point. Our appetizers were steamed pork dumplings, crab wonton, and chicken lettuce wraps. The pork dumplings were awesome, but I wish there was more pork inside. The wontons were just as you'd expect, but the lettuce wrap had me asking "where's the chicken?" It tasted ok, but the chicken was hard to identify.
Our waiter, Mike, was pretty cool. He gave us a lot of feedback on the menu items and was very attentive throughout our meal. Overall a very good experience and I'll be back again when I crave some Chinese food and CCR.
Great food! Great service! A group of us went and shared a variety of dishes. The ice cream is phenomenal and lots of interesting flavors you cant find anywhere else.
The service is bad!! The lady at the bar is Rude treats people like their business is not needed. When she is ringing your service she is ignoring you and talking to other people sitting at the bar. She did this to me and I watched her do it to at least two other people. She needs customer service training. Rude! Rude!
I really liked the menu selections. The food was great, atmosphere and service was pleasant. Our server for the night was Matt. He was funny, professional, neat, and attentive to our dining needs. We will definitely come back.
Spent over $50 for bland food. I would have preferred to go to any other regular Chinese fast casual restaurant instead. Unfortunately this was the only place open which we appreciated in a time like this. We ordered beef Moo Goo and it had only a couple oz of beef total, and the "wraps" that came with it tasted raw. The price is way over the top and not worth it at all. The Korean beef tasted good. Wait times are quick.
We were excited to try this place because of the good reviews. Place was small and busy. Waitress walked by our table back and forth tending to other customers. She finally stopped and said Ill be right back to place your order. Right back turned into about a 20 mins wait (still seeing her go back and forth) and still not stopping to take our order. We said forget it, lets go. We stopped by the hostess to tell them we were leaving because the waitress took to long. Both just looked at us and said oh sorry amd Didn t even attempt to fix the situation. Such a disappointment. No customer service at all! Its ok! They didnt deserve my money.
We love visiting Red Orchids as we have for many years. Our comfort comes in the form of Tony Chu's childhood family dishes. Such dynamic flavors. The chicken lettuce wraps and the General Chu and the Vegetable Moo Shoo are some of our favorites. The specials are amazing and the staff are super attentive.Yumm!!
My favorite place. The vegetable lettuce wraps are amazing(except they recently changed the peanut sauce recipe for those who complained it was "too spicy") The honey walnut shrimp is divine. The bar staff is at the top of their game; very knowledgeable.
Heard great things about this place, but the food was frankly disgusting. The sauces were overpowering, the rice was bland; what s worse is there was plastic in one of our dishes, and one of the rices brought out was smelly and tasted strange. I d pay $100 to not have consumed this food.
Me and my wife went in for dinner with her service dog and the wait staff did not bat an eye at us. The management staff was very friendly as well as the waiter who was training a new member of the team .we was torn between the money bags and dumplings and they asked us "why not both". We have been wanting service like this and couldn't find it but thankfully we found it here and we highly and strongly suggest red orchids to anyone who wants a great meal and service that goes above and beyond normal expectations. We will be back.
Great Chinese Bistro. Some different flavors than "traditional" take out American Chinese, but that makes it great. Always have great service here and leave with plenty of leftovers. Be sure to try the chicken lettuce wraps with their peanut sauce, its really good.
Delicious food!! Was weary about the strip mall location, but inside the restaurant it's very nice. Great staff, great food - a must go place! I got the handmade noodle bowl dish and it was excellent. Their sangria special was on point too! A++
