I don't tend to ever want to offer any type of reviews for Pet Centers.
Simply because I learned by having pets while living such Unnatural lifestyle, in the city and traveling etc., that this alone places huge pressure on pets.
Pets are best kept within families who have lots of their own room to roam and play and a family who cares for and loves them.
I realized that pets are not ours and often we end up doing them more harm than good.
Often we want Animals for companions because we are lonely, or for their emotional support.
We ask ourselves, 'Does my dog really love me, or does he just want me to feed him?'
Well, one thing I learned is that even dogs, who are our best friends and often stick beside us through thick and thin, tend to not be happy in situations where they can not just go poopoo and bury it outside, we have to clean it up. They want more freedom but we have to put them on leashes and tie them up when we go inside grocery stores which is traumatizing for dogs because they are predatory Animals and a leash, when left alone is a huge trauma for them as they feel very instinctually endangered in that situation.
I like Earthling Ed's youtube video on why we should not have pets. It tells us that when we have pets that they are totally dependent on Us, humans who know little or nothing about them or their needs.
Animals might just have their own ideas about how they wish to live and by owning them or buying them as pets, we take away that right to choose as any sentient being should, for themselves.
Also, that when we support breeders by buying pets, we are supporting a type of business which exploits Animals for profit. And pet stores normally do this as well.
So, rescuing Animals or helping out by purchasing Animals who have been wounded and can not be released back to the wild or were rescued for some reason tends to be the best bet.
However, after considering the state of our current situation where we are slowly replacing Animals in the production of meat for example: see, BYND meat.
And that we are supporting more awareness around the needs of Animals.
We are basically phasing out pet stores and helping breeders and pet store owners to find other work which will support their livelihoods with other types of work.
Animal sanctuaries are a great example of this.
And with growing interest in growing important protein crops for the alternative meat category, many ranchers and Animal farmers are finding they can make the money they need without resorting to cruelty practices.
Because these practices do not make anyone very happy or healthy in the long term.
So, this is one of the reasons I am giving Elvis' store 5 stars.
Because he is showing a meaningful transition for many who still need pet products but are showing a growing concern for the treatment of animals by us humans.
I love to see all of the bulk pet foods and that Elvis; the store owner is offering a wide variety of healthy options and raw and organic foods.
I loved to see that the pets he does own are well taken care of.
He provides the birds with these beautiful millet stocks which the birds can eat directly from the branch just like they would in the wild.
I love to see he has actual living plants inside the aquariums so the fish can feel more at home.
I love to see his wonderful staff like Jenna and Alaya who were both so helpful and fun to talk with about Animals.
Jenna in particular seems quite knowledgeable. She also offers wildlife walks for kids.
And I love that they care for some Animals who need some basic care when their 'guardians' are away.
Clearly, this is an unusual store and one which should be supported by us local patrons because of these many reasons.
I don't know about you, but I have never seen anything like this and am grateful for their presence in our local community of Marin.
