Rancho Leonero Resort Review

This place is awesome if you love fishing and want the true baja experience. We did not stay In the rooms because we had a private residence nearby so I cannot comment on the amenities, but the place is very well maintained and has a unique vibe with an emphasis on fishing. Their boats are plentiful and well maintained. The captains have a reputation for knowing where the fish are.

"The Ranch" is first and formost a destination spot that does tend to focus on east cape fishing. That being said, the species available for catching are mind boggling. I have, to date, caught tuna, roosterfish, dorado, marlin, sailfish, pargo, cubera, wahoo, lookdowns, grouper, jack crevall, etc...the list is too long.
The accommodations are wonderful. I have stayed in only the bungalows the times I have been there and have had friends that stayed in the deluxe rooms. No bad reports, and they are well cooled by quiet a/c. The beds are very comfortable and even my picky wife doesn't have a problem sleeping.
The food is great. Some meals are odd for sure, but I think it's their way of trying to accommodate their tourist clientele. As mentioned above, the Italian night is not what you would expect, but it is delicious. All there food is. Plus you can have the kitchen staff cook any fish you have caught in a bunch of different ways. Most people share their catch at dinner, or portions of it I have noticed.
The staff is great. Helpful and well-spoken, they are there to help you have a great vacation. Juliana is a wealth of information and can get you anything you need and/ or want.
The place is great. I could go on for hours...

If you are practicing shore and bottom fishing, you will not find a better place than Leonero ranch, take a 1.5 kg snapper from shore, this place is another level.

Tequilla... sun... sand... scantily clad women... what's not to love?

Rancho Leonero is absolutely amazing. It should be considered one of the seven wonders of the world along with the Sea of Cortez. They have great service and the people who work there are very friendly. The boat captains are completely awesome too. It is right on the beach and it really is the hidden gem on the Sea of Cortez. I have been there twice and I wish I could live there. It is the kind of place where you will be on the verge of tears when you have to leave. I am for sure going to retire and live in one of those houses nearby when I am older. The fishing and snorkeling is amazing and there are so many fun activities to do there during your stay. They also have a really nice beach side pool and the rooms are very nice. You can also go on a beach walk and find a lot of cool shells along with the awesome Mariachi Band that comes sometimes. I definitely recommend going there because it is truly amazing and it is in such a serene environment.

Easy experience, great meals, easy fishing access. I just finished my 25th trip to the Rancho. A great value!

It is off season, so was not a lot of people around but this is a very nice place. Good food, good drinks and friendly atmosphere!

Great classic East Cape sport fishing hotel, bar and restaurant

I have never stayed here but I've had great mexican food and service.

The guy that owns the place for better or worse doesn't upgrade the place because he wants it to be the same as it was 25 years ago. So come with that idea. Sitting at dinner with EVERYONE that's staying here we had people from different tables come and share their fish they had caught and cooked with everyone else. There's no phones and no TV's in the room so that forces everyone to be social again.

Clean, comfortable, accommodating staff. Reasonable rates

I just spent a week at RL. Winds made the sea rough and water temperature was too cold for great fishing. We did catch fish, but we had hoped for Dorado, which we couldn't find. As soon as the water temperature becomes a little warmer, fishing should be great.

If you want to go to a place for relaxation, this is it. Large comfortable rooms, a terrific staff, and a mixture of Mexican and American cuisine, together made for a great visit. Drinking water from the tap was fine, without any problems. There are no televisions or phones in the rooms. (WiFi and television are located in the Cantina -- Be aware the TV has limited access to some blacked-out US sporting events. We rented Room 2 which was close enough to the Cantina to get WiFi service from our room.) I tried to get live-streaming of my home town playoff games on my laptop to no avail. My fault. I should've set those subscriptions up before I left the US.

I had the pleasure of meeting John Ireland, the owner of Rancho Leonero, over early morning coffee. He is a friendly person and freely shares the history of the Rancho and the surrounding area.

We have been visiting this resort since it was built, we have pictures of our son in all stages, the place is magical, the people are genuine as anyone, the food is spectacular, the splayas are a paradise, it is worth visiting and recommend it!

It is a place removed from all commerce, the nearest store is 20 mins., Its outside view is very nice, it is nice, the pool is very comfortable, its nice beach, clean and quiet. The rooms are from regular to bad as it depends on which one you touch, but the hot water takes time to go out, you can hear the noises of the rooms, some smell of humidity, the internet service is terrible, they do not have a telephone, there is no internet, no ironing board, no TV, the restaurant service only handles 3 schedules, from 6 to 9 am for breakfast, from 12 to 1 pm for lunch and from 5 to 7 pm for dinner, after those times only There are quesadillas and they are very expensive (to be only quesadillas). Your food in general is very rich. They have a good bar assortment. The sunsets are worthy of admiration. They have fishing service. Perfect place to lose yourself and relax.

This is a very awesome place the fishing was awesome and the people were friendly. The food was great family style. Hated to leave felt like home. This place is all about relaxing and fishing. No extra amenities like tv on vacation I don't want tv anyway. The sashimi the best I ever had. If you like to fish and have fun this is the place to you. If you go fishing make sure you ask for Ramon he is the best. I caught a 50 pound tuna. Have fun !!!!!!!

Great spot for scenic happy hours. We enjoy their drinks and beers on the patio that overlooks the sea while we try and spot whales and fish. I have only ever visited during March/April when the restaurant is only open for drinks, but they let you bring in your own snacks to enjoy while you drink.

Just got back from Rancho Leonero Resort, very cool, great fishing , they know what they are doing! 9 ahi tuna , 3 dorado, 3 pompino....one day and I'm a neophyte to fishing....the bonus is great snorkeling 10' feet off shore! the bungalows very comfortable, I'll bring the Mrs. next time she'll love it.

One of the few classic fishing retreats. Out of the way, quiet, rustic,with great food and greater fishing.

Really great remote all inclusive fishing resort in one of the most beautiful areas of East Cape. Stop in for a margarita or stay for a week and fish.

A lot of fun, great beach, air conditioned rooms. Food is...odd. Spaghetti in 90 degree weather? They ignore all the great Mexican food and amazing seafood to make burgers.

It has beautiful amanezer and the dusk, you can practice snorkeling, good fishing very quiet and discreet

I have been going going here for years, the people are the best. I only fished one day, and limited out on TUNA. Rooms are clean and the food good. Ready for my next visit.

This place is great, beachside pool, bar fishing. Everything you want in a resort.

What a great looking place! We stopped in to check it out and didn't see a single guest or customer service person. But, we did see lots of workers making improvements to the already impeccable property. In one case it was just repainting the office but in the other case a structure with stone pillars was being built. An outdoor bar or grill area?

I couldn't give it 5 stars because we didn't see inside any of the rooms and didn't experience any of their offerings. I dont doubt that they deserve it, though.

The views from the dining room were incredible. The same was true of the swimming pool. Most buildings were built out of stone with matching stonework on the paths that wound through the property. It almost looked like the resort had its roots in the Works Projects Administration of the 1940s in the US.

The whole resort is perched on the Sea of Cortez. There is a large, sandy beach area that ends at a rocky point below the swimming pool area.

I have been here a few times now, and each time I have been impressed by the staff and management of the Rancho. They really make your stay here a pleasant, relaxing experience between the fishing trips. The coordination of all the elements necessary to get you on your way fishing each morning goes off like clockwork. Their knowledge of the fishing waters and assignment of your boat and experienced crew gives you your best shot at hooking up something to remember. The food is always consistently good with added attention given to making your catch of the day into something special to share, upon request. The bar staff is skilled and efficient in supplying just what you want as you share your fishing stories with your friends after dinner. At the end of the day you know there s a comfortable bed in an air conditioned room awaiting you. Now that they ve added WiFi, you can surf too! My favorite memory is sitting at a patio table after everyone went off to bed on the last day, nursing a nite cap, and just listening to the waves splashing on the beach in the distance. The end of another great week at Rancho Leonero.

Beautiful property, quiet beach, great service, delicious food + drinks, cold beers, super-comfy beds, relaxed atmosphere.. the perfect spot to recharge, have some quiet time, enjoy amazing fishing and snorkeling. Will definitely be back!

They put us on fish, the beer in the bar is cold, and the air conditioning in the rooms works great. This place is perfect. If you go out on a panga ask for Jorge.
