About Punjab MARKFED

Punjab MARKFED: The Largest Marketing Co-operative in Asia

The Punjab State Co-op Supply & Marketing Federation Ltd., popularly known as “Markfed,” is a leading co-operative society in India. Established in 1954, Markfed has come a long way from its humble beginnings with just one bicycle, three employees, thirteen members and a capital of Rs.54,000/-. Today, it has grown to become the largest marketing co-operative in Asia with an annual turnover of over Rs.11600 Crores during 2013-2014 and employs 1932 people.

Markfed's primary objective is to provide marketing support to farmers by procuring their produce at remunerative prices and selling them through its network of outlets across the state. It also provides agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilizers, pesticides etc., to farmers at reasonable rates.

With its headquarters located in Chandigarh, Markfed operates through 20 district offices over 100 branch offices in Mandi towns and nine processing units spread across Punjab. The organization has diversified into various sectors such as food processing (canning/packaging), dairy products (milk/paneer/butter), poultry feed (broiler layer feed), animal health products (vaccines/dewormers) and agrochemicals.

Markfed's food processing division produces canned fruits & vegetables like peas/carrots/mushrooms/peaches/apricots etc., which are sold under the brand name "Sohna." Its dairy division produces milk products like paneer/butter/ghee under the brand name "Verka," which is very popular among consumers for its quality.

In addition to this, Markfed also runs a chain of retail stores called "Markfed Agro Malls" that sell fresh fruits & vegetables along with other grocery items at competitive prices. These stores have become very popular among consumers due to their quality products and affordable pricing.

One of the unique features of Markfed is that it operates on a no-profit-no-loss basis which means that all profits earned by the organization are distributed among its members who are primarily farmers. This ensures that farmers get fair prices for their produce while also providing them with access to high-quality inputs at reasonable rates.

In conclusion, Punjab MARKFED has come a long way since its inception in 1954 and has established itself as one of the leading co-operative societies not only in India but also globally. With an unwavering commitment towards providing marketing support to farmers while ensuring fair prices for their produce along with access to high-quality inputs at reasonable rates; it continues on its path towards growth while remaining true to its core values - honesty, integrity & transparency!
