"We are not responsible for what PUMYANG has done..."
Pumyang USA’s contract for our move was $4200, yet our final cost was $5544.
Once the moving truck was loaded, we paid the Pumyang USA Supervisor the contracted price of $2622 in cash. The Supervisor then required that we pay a total of $3000 in cash.
When we gave the Supervisor a cash tip for his two workers, the Supervisor required that we add an additional 20% to our tip, which we felt shamed into paying.
We contracted for 3 men to move us in. When the moving truck arrived at our home, only one man arrived, the “Driver”. The Driver asked us if he could move us in without having to hire 2 local movers and informed us that the cost for this labor was being funded out of his own pocket, not from our $5544 fee. As he put it: “The company charged us a lot of money, but the movers only receive a small amount of this money.”
It must be noted that although the Driver’s wife accompanied him on his cross-country drive, the Driver agreed that his wife was NOT a mover. Instead, his wife just held a clip board for inventory, and stayed in our air-conditioned home during the entire move-in process.
Only one additional local mover was contracted by the Driver. Another local mover did arrive about 1 hour late. He was not hired by the Driver and was sent home. The gentleman complained and repeated asked for “gas money”, which the Driver refused to give him. The man stayed outside of our home and repeatedly came to our door asking the Driver for money for well over an hour. This added a tremendous amount of stress to our already stressful move.
We discovered some damage to our furniture. The most notable was a slice in our new sofa. It was made when the locally contracted mover yelled: “Oh Shit!” while cutting the sofa’s plastic wrapping. When I didn’t see what he had done, he lied and said nothing was damaged (I also tipped this man before he left our home).
We contacted Pumyang USA about the following issues which had occurred during our MOVE OUT:
1) The huge 25% increase in the cost of our move
2) The shakedown for a cash payment above the contracted 50% down payment
3) The shakedown for us to increase our tip 20%
We contacted Pumyang USA about the following issues which had occurred during our MOVE IN:
1) The fact that a third mover was not hired as contracted
2) The damages to our new sofa (see photo) and bedroom side table
When Pumyang USA was contacted by my Korean speaking wife, their management was extremely belligerent. They made it clear that they had no intention of resolving this matter.
My wife responded by posting these issues in a review on a website: www.missyusa.com. She was immediately emailed and contacted by phone by Pumyang’s Office Manager, who proceeded to berate my wife. In a very loud tone, my wife was spoken to in an extremely demeaning, argumentative and sexist manner. She was threatened with a defamation lawsuit, if she didn’t immediately remove her review.
When I reached out for a resolution before writing this review, I received the following email:
"I hate to say that PUMYANG no longer exists. PUMYANG closed last September.
H SHIPPING has registered a Doing business as (DBA) PUMYANG.
You can find that information on the internet.
We are a different company called PLS USA.
We acquired PUMYANG in September last year and are shifting to a new company operation.
We are not responsible for what PUMYANG has done, and we have a contract for the contents of the acquisition.
I'm afraid I can't help you in this situation even if you contact me."
