Public Private Partnership Office, Dhaka: Driving Economic Growth through Innovative Partnerships

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Office in Dhaka is a government agency that aims to promote and facilitate PPP projects in Bangladesh. The office was established in 2010 under the Ministry of Finance with the objective of attracting private sector investment and expertise to support the country's infrastructure development.

Bangladesh is a developing country with a growing population of over 160 million people. The government recognizes that it cannot meet all the infrastructure needs alone, hence the need for PPPs. Through PPPs, private sector companies can invest in public infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, power plants, hospitals and schools while earning returns on their investments.

The PPP Office serves as a one-stop-shop for investors interested in partnering with the government on various projects. It provides advisory services to both public and private sectors on project identification, preparation, procurement and implementation. The office also helps to create an enabling environment for PPPs by developing policies and regulations that govern these partnerships.

Over the years, Bangladesh has implemented several successful PPP projects across various sectors including energy, transport, health and education. These projects have not only improved access to essential services but have also created jobs and contributed significantly to economic growth.

One notable example is the Meghnaghat Power Plant Project which was developed under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model by Summit Power International Limited (SPIL). The project involved constructing a 450 MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant near Dhaka which now supplies electricity to over 2 million households. This project has helped reduce load shedding hours significantly while contributing towards meeting Bangladesh's growing energy demand.

Another successful project is the Padma Bridge Project which involves constructing a multi-purpose bridge over River Padma connecting southwest Bangladesh with other parts of the country. This project will not only improve connectivity but will also boost trade between different regions thereby promoting economic growth.

The success of these projects can be attributed to effective collaboration between public and private sectors through well-structured partnerships that ensure risk-sharing while maximizing benefits for both parties.

In conclusion, Public Private Partnership Office in Dhaka plays an important role in driving economic growth through innovative partnerships between public and private sectors. With its expertise in identifying viable investment opportunities across various sectors coupled with its ability to provide advisory services throughout all stages of project development; this office remains committed towards creating an enabling environment for sustainable development through PPPs."
