Public Art Saint Paul: Celebrating Art and Community
Public Art Saint Paul is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to bringing art into the public sphere for almost three decades. Founded in 1987, Public Art Saint Paul has been at the forefront of promoting community engagement through art, creating a platform for artists to showcase their work and connect with the public.
At Public Art Saint Paul, we believe that art is an essential part of our lives. It enriches our communities, inspires creativity and imagination, and fosters social connections. Our mission is to create meaningful experiences through public art that reflect the diversity of our community.
Over the years, we have worked on numerous projects that have transformed public spaces into vibrant cultural hubs. From murals to sculptures to interactive installations, each project has been designed with a unique vision in mind. We collaborate with artists from different backgrounds and disciplines who bring their own perspectives and ideas to each project.
One of our most notable projects is "The Wall," which was created in collaboration with artist Seitu Jones. The Wall is a 700-foot-long mural located along Victoria Street in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood. The mural depicts scenes from everyday life in Frogtown and celebrates the diversity of its residents.
Another project that we are proud of is "The Bigelow Chapel Project," which was created by artist Ta-coumba Aiken in collaboration with architect Joan Soranno. The Bigelow Chapel Project transformed an unused chapel at United Hospital into a vibrant space filled with colorful murals and mosaics.
At Public Art Saint Paul, we are committed to engaging communities throughout the creative process. We believe that everyone should have access to art regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. That's why we offer free workshops where people can learn about different artistic techniques or participate in creating public artworks themselves.
We also partner with local schools to provide opportunities for students to engage with art. Our "Artists in the Schools" program brings professional artists into classrooms to teach students about different art forms and techniques. We believe that by exposing young people to art, we can inspire them to become lifelong learners and creators.
In addition to our projects and programs, we also offer resources for artists who are interested in creating public artworks. Our website features a database of public art opportunities, as well as information on how to apply for grants and commissions.
At Public Art Saint Paul, we are committed to creating a more vibrant and connected community through art. We believe that by bringing people together through creative expression, we can build a stronger sense of belonging and foster a more inclusive society. Join us in celebrating the power of art!
