Project SYNCERE: Preparing Underrepresented Students for STEM Careers

Project SYNCERE is a non-profit organization that aims to bridge the gap between underrepresented students and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The organization was founded in 2009 by Jason Coleman and Dr. Sibrina Collins with the goal of providing access to STEM education for students who may not have had the opportunity otherwise.

The name "SYNCERE" stands for Supporting Youth's Needs with Core Engineering Research Experiments. The organization's mission is to prepare young minds for success in STEM fields by providing hands-on learning experiences, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to real-world applications of STEM concepts.

One of Project SYNCERE's core programs is its summer camp series. These camps are designed to provide students with an immersive experience in various areas of STEM. Students work on projects related to robotics, coding, renewable energy sources, and more. They also have the opportunity to interact with professionals working in these fields.

In addition to its summer camps, Project SYNCERE offers after-school programs during the school year. These programs are designed to supplement classroom learning by providing additional support and resources for students interested in pursuing STEM careers.

Project SYNCERE has been successful in achieving its goals thus far. Since its founding over a decade ago, it has served over 10,000 students from underserved communities across Chicago. Many of these students have gone on to pursue degrees or careers in STEM fields thanks to their experiences with Project SYNCERE.

One reason why Project SYNCERE has been so successful is because it takes a holistic approach when working with students. It recognizes that many factors can impact a student's ability or desire to pursue a career in STEM - including socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity/gender identity representation within their community or family members' professions - so it works hard at addressing those issues as well as offering academic support through tutoring services if needed.

Another key factor contributing towards Project SYNCERE’s success is its partnerships with local businesses and organizations within Chicago’s tech industry such as Google Chicago office which provides funding support along other companies like ComEd (an energy company) which provides internship opportunities for high school seniors who participate actively within project syncere programing throughout their high school years . These partnerships help ensure that Project SYNCERE remains relevant and up-to-date on industry trends while also providing valuable networking opportunities for participating students.

Overall ,Project Syncere plays an important role not only preparing underrepresented youth but also creating pathways towards successful careers within Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) field . With continued growth ,support from local businesses & organizations ,and dedication from staff members & volunteers alike; there’s no doubt that this non-profit will continue making strides towards closing gaps between underrepresented groups & career opportunities available today!
