Compassionate, non-judgmental and helpful staff. The fact that these places/organizations exist is highly controversial, but there is no denying they do have a positive effect on the stats when it comes to the spread of illness, AIDS and Hepatitis C being the two of the most prevalent. People say well if they are stupid enough to do drugs, they deserve it, let em die!
This is an insane outlook. Addiction affects your the way your brain works. It s a lot of science and I know I won t be able to hold your attention for all that. No one, no one at all deserves to die because of their inability to win a war they are fighting against their own brain. Point being, people are gonna seek relief from their life. Everyone on Earth has a way they cope with the b.s. in their day to day life. Some purpose just get addicted and just stop isn t even a remote possibility. So if we know it s gonna go on either way, wouldn t we all prefer it s done safely and in a way that lowers their chances of contracting these serious illnesses!? What about the cost? Why is my tax money going to pay for junkies supplies?
It s a whole lot cheaper to give people new, clean supplies and information about safety than it is to treat Hep C or treat AIDS for their lifetime. I would venture a guess that many in this population are not on private insurance, my guess is Medicaid pays for most of these people s treatment. Consider the cost of a packet of clean needles versus lifetime of AIDS medication and hospital stays and home care and ALL of it. It s common sense.
