Powerhouse Bakery at Nutrition Matters, Inc. Review

Disappointed, ordered a birthday cake, but then decided to change the cake from vegan vanilla to carrot cake, I thought lt was all taken care but when I show up to pick up cake, it was the vegan vanilla cake. The lady stated that she did receive my text but someone else also changed their cake to carrot cake and they did change that cake but not mine. So she offers me 2 free carrot cupcakes but no discount, even though they did receive my order change. I paid $108 for a cake and a dozen cupcakes. We will not be returning, as my husband was very upset. I shouldn't have even took the cake, but I'm not one to argue.

Update: she did call me the day after and we discussed, but I just felt it should have been handled that same day, since it was their mistake. I changed it it a 3 star since the food/treats are really delicious as well as they fit into our lifestyle plus my fiance loves the cauliflower pizza.

Powerhouse Bakery is my favourite bakery because all their food items are not just tasty but also healthy to eat, gluten and allergen free. Thank You.

Please everyone you need to try Powerhouse Bakery. They are the best!!! There is no bakery in town like them. Thank you Suzanne and staff.

Wow! What a foolish idea for a bakery! Only 1% of people have celiac disease, yet this bakery doesn't offer any options with gluten protein. Any real baker knows the values of gluten in creating different varieties of breads. Bread makers have worked with gluten for thousands of years, but I guess this bakery is too self righteous for that. It's a shame. This area of town needs a bakery, but this isn't it. This is just a price inflated bakery for those unfortunate enough to legitimately have celiac disease and the rest of the fools who want to believe they do.

This morning was our first time here and my husband and I were very very very pleased with the service.
Suzanne was very informative about the food and the ingredients she uses.
And the food... OH MY GOODNESS... We will be returning customers.

Just try out this place, they r trying keto muffins they are good. And they do special orders to. They r trying to do more keto friendly foods. But so far it is a good place if u dont want to make your own sweets or bread if u are on keto.

We had a personal gluten free chicken pesto pizza from the refrigerated section. Very tastyfor gluten free pizza! Very small dining space, very friendly staff. Yummy cookies

Never disappoints. There are many times I am not on that side of town but when I am, I will do my best to get my Powerhouse Bakery fix. Whether it is the yogurt and homemade granola, the muffins or Peanut Butter Cookies. Suzanne has played a HUGE role in my nutrition back in 2007, prior to Powerhouse Bakery. If you need help with your nutrition but want some food with love, you need to head to Powerhouse Bakery! #truth

Powerhouse Bakery is definitely a must-visit! Considering the high quality of ingredients used and the very flavorful seasoning profiles in each meal-to-go, I find it to be quite affordable. Owner and staff are delightful and passionate. I love to use the baked goods for pre-workout snacks or fulfilling energy on-the-go! Go Powerhouse!

My first time in, very friendly. Had a sample of the granola, yummy! I bought pumpkin cardamon muffins for breakfast and an acorn squash with quinoa for lunch. I enjoyed both and will definitely come back! Might even be interested in their classes!

Food has been terrible every time I've gone there. I keep hoping for the best but hasn't delivered yet.

I stopped by today while out running errands. I was looking for something healthy. I loved their selection and was excited to try their food. I had the No Poblano and the seasoning and spice was on point. Their tarragon peas where delicious...I could have eaten a whole plate of those! I was even gifted with a taste of their pumpkin cardamom muffin which was a nice treat! If you are tired of junk food and trying to nourish yourself, try this place. You ll get what your body needs and enjoy it! I will be back when I am out running errands again.

I went to Powerhouse to pick up some treats for friends. One is a vegan and the other, GF celiac. One stop shop! We all shared and everything was delicious. I also got some nutrient dense granola which is amazing. Thank you and we will be back!!

This shop has the BEST customer service! I needed a vegan cake on very short notice and they were able to take care of my order in about an hour! The decorations were just perfect! Tasty food that we found while visiting family and we re looking forward to the birthday cakes we ordered. The fact that they were able to alter the recipe for our various food allergies and sensitivities is fantastic!

It's not a restaurant but a meal plan sort of place.

I placed an order for a dozen Keto-friendly cupcakes for my husband s birthday. The owner s (Suzanne s) description of the flavor sounded like something similar to funfetti. When my friend arrived to pick them up, she said that the girl she spoke to seemed very confused about what order she was there to pick up and disappeared into the back for 15 minutes. She reappeared twice asking my friend if she d rather have vegan cupcakes instead. After repeatedly declining the vegan cupcakes, she was given 6 cupcakes (who knows whether or not they were actually Keto at this point), 5 of which were chocolate and 1 strawberry. She was told she could come back to pick up another 6 the following week. The chocolate were decent but the strawberry was terrible. I ve called asking for Suzanne twice, leaving messages requesting a call back but she has not returned my call. I will not be using this bakery again.

I love the healthy, good tasting products that Suzanne sells at the bakery. I've tried the muffins, the granola and the cherry squares and everything is just delicious. Can't wait to finish what I have and get more!!

I am absolutely addicted to this place. I get 5 yogurts and 5 meals and i am set up for a healthy, energized work week. Affordable and friendly staff.

I have only had one baked good from this bakery and it was an amazing cookie so my review of the baked goods is a little one sided.

What I have had is over 2 weeks of meal prep meals. I assume they started doing it because of the Crossfit Gym that is go close. Regardless I am very happy they did.

I have tried all of the meal prep and meal service places in San Antonio, by all of them I literally mean all of them and this is hand down the best. Powerhouse Bakery does not rely on heavy seasoning to cover up the flavors of the food. The food is actually good, like it was cooked by my wife and I am just heating it up. It is very healthy and perfect portions for making a meal plan with.

I almost selfishly did not write this review due to the fact if their meal prep orders increase it might be hard to keep the quality. I am writing the review though because Suzanne deserves the feedback and I need to do what I can to ensure they stick around and keep making amazing prepared meals!

Wonderful staff that spent a good 15-20 minutes with me, showing me the goods and giving me samples to eat there and take home. Got me set up on their mailing list. They took such care of me - food was great and I'm coming back!

Powerhouse made an excellent gluten free chocolate cake for a family member's birthday! Looked great and was very tasty. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable.

A hidden gem worth seeking out! I love that there are options for everyone. I feel like finding treats that are healthy AND tasty can be very hit or miss, but these treats are a hit. I had the coconut crinkle cookies; they were soft, moist, and had a great flavor. I will definitely be back for more.

Best place i've ever been to the lady that owns the place EXTREMELY nice and vary helpful the entire bakery is gluten free she even has a free cooking class the cupcake are delicious I have been gluten free for a long time now and have always sat back and wached my friends eat all the yummy stuff l really feel like they have given me my life back and eveythings healthy and guilt free I highy recommend

The cupcakes and muffins tasted as if they were frozen then thawed. They were all very dry and hard. The Maui Tuna Salad was just gross. After a few bites it was thrown away. The Pulled Pork Tacos however were good. The service is nice and friendly. I just wish the taste of everything else was better. I will not be returning. $5 for a tiny muffin that doesn't even taste good is not worth the time.

The owner is the sweetest person around and wants you to have the best experience possible! The chili, muffins and pull apart bread are what I got for my first time here and I will undoubtably be back again for more. Thank you for the lovely experience!

The staff is SO friendly. Working as an intern occasionally, the staff are more than willing to help me. I was able to sample a "stud muffin" and a cookie on my most recent visit. Both were amazing. The muffin is high is protein and only sweetened with honey and candied ginger. As for the cookie, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and any other normal chocolate chip cookie. It's great :)

What a delightful place with LOTS of variety of healthy, gluten free food! They have great bars, muffins, cookies, meals, and not to mention my favorite, cauliflower crust pizza! Super delicious!

I found Powerhouse Bakery and Suzanne Parker's services as a dietician through the recommendation of a physician who was also a customer of theirs. I began using the prepared meal services and also had a consultation with Suzanne when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The meals on their menu all provide a healthy balance of carbs, fat and protein and are very tasty! I loved the variety, and between the meals and the gluten-free snacks I was able to help stabilize my blood sugars and maintain a healthy weight. Now, I place my order each week knowing I will have delicious, healthy options for the following week, and this has contributed substantially to reaching my weight loss goals.

My favorites: turkey meatballs with spaghetti squash; loaded lasagna; and "street tacos"

A few weeks before Halloween we found out our 2 1/2 year old daughter is allergic to wheat and milk. It s been very hard to adjust with her new diet. On Halloween I signed up to bring cupcakes to her classroom because I knew if she d see the regular cupcakes she d want one, so I found this place online and they were able to make her 24 vegan cupcakes. It was very short notice. Not only were they delicious, they were very cute with Halloween decorations. I m so glad I found this place.

Powerhouse Bakery is the best bakery house which restores all the nutrition of the food. If you love to eat tasty and delicious food which is healthy too then you must try good eats of Powerhouse Bakery. Highly recommended!

I discovered Powerhouse Bakery yesterday. As someone who is gluten sensitive, I have tried many gluten free products over the years but haven t been very satisfied. Breads, in particular, tend to be dry and dense, or gritty and crumbly. My experience at Powerhouse was distinctly different. The young man who assisted me said that they were temporarily out of focaccia and their other breads, but that they would have some later that day. (They bake bread in small batches to achieve the best results.) He gave me a sample of their rolls, which I would give 5 stars for texture. (I would give the flavor 3 stars it was made with teff flour, which I don t care for because of the sour taste.) I also sampled a chocolate cupcake. It did not appeal to my taste; the cake was a bit dense and dry, and it tasted more like coconut than chocolate. The frosting was delicious, though. And (saving the best for last) if you go there, you have to try the chocolate chip cookies. They are moist, chewy, sweet and delectable every bit as good as Tollhouse, but way more nutritious! I plan to go back soon to buy some focaccia bread and some of their other products.

This was a great find! I had a cali crust pizza and it was delicious! Also got an assortment of muffins and cookies. They use nutritious ingredients so you know you're putting good food into your body :)

Labeling is not accurate! Owner confessed to substituting almond milk with rice milk, without changing to a proper label. I was looking for a gluten and nut free product. She was trying to make a sell! And was willing to say anything to make it, at the risk of another's health. I am a Registered Nurse concerned about allergies and correct labeling and honesty are crucial for special needs and preventing reactions. One has to ask what was the original mission of this bakery? She did offer to make me a special batch, but still not trustworthy.

I cannot say enough good things about Powerhouse Bakery!! They are not just a bakery - they do a full meal prep (cooked) and have a constantly changing menu. Suzanne and staff are so friendly and accommodating and remembered me after my first visit. The food is DELICIOUS (I crave it when I m not in town!). This is a must try for anyone who travels or just needs meal prep. I would give more stars if I could! A+++

Most delicious Gluten Free Strawberry Cake I've ever had! I lucked onto this Bakery thru a friend. I wanted my older granddaughter to finally have a cake that EVERYONE, including her, could eat. She's always had to have a separate cupcake! . Thank you Suzanne @ Powerhouse for helping me pick the right cake & design. I was overwhelmed when I saw the final result on such short notice! You are a delight!

This place is so amazing They have cinnamon rolls, muffins, cookies ,bread , cupcakes , cakes , and more all gluten free! In addition the also do preped meals to help reach my weight goals! The turkey meat loaf and the Buddha bowl is really delicious

Great customer service and amazing vegan cupcakes!!! We were so surprised at all the options we had there for people with so many restrictions. It's a little out of the way but man, you have options from paleo to gluten free, healthy to a sweet treat! Try them out and you won't be disappointed!

Love this place, it was Friday fresh bread, we got a sample and ended up ordering it as part of our meal with the kale salad and a few desserts. Everything was very good, I suffer with food allergies and it s not often you find a place that caters to that. Lots of options, staff willing to help with making changes and they were super friendly. Definitely be back !

Power House Bakery is for anyone looking for a not only delicious but nutritious treat or meal. I am so glad that I have found this bakery, everything sold is prepared by this marvelous bakery. It is owned and run by RD Mrs. Suzanne Parker who is just so kind, wonderful and very attentive to the needs of all her clients and customers who come in ! These last couple times that I came I got to try their Keto Cinnamon Rolls, Carrot Cake Cupcake, and meal prepped Pesto Chicken and it was all so delicious and healthy! If you ever have the chance to check this place out, I promise you will not be disappointed!!!

My child has gluten allergies so I was looking for a bakery that can provide a gluten free cake. Powerhouse Bakery exceeded my expectations in every way.

This 5 star is overdue! A few weeks ago, I called for an emergency caked to be made. I actually needed two and got them both in such a great matter of time! I have to say, these are the best cakes I ve ever had in my entire life. It s also so amazing to know that they could be made gluten and dairy free. I have a friend who s sensitive with food and this time she enjoyed every single bite of her cake.

If you haven t had any of her cakes or desserts, you re missing out! AMAZING job done!

We found this place by chance while searching SA for a gluten free bakery. Great baked goods with actual nutritional value. Great small business. Hidden towards the back but worth the drive out. Get the cake pops they are the best. Really recommend this hidden gem in San Antonio.

They are kind but a little bit distracted. I placed an order online for a vegan cake, and after a week I didn't get feedback till I called them, frosting didn't taste the flavor I asked, a soft baking soda after taste in bread, the birth day name was misspelled and the wrong color. It was a round 9 X 2 " tall for $100.00.

My favorite bakery! It can be difficult to find delicious gluten free baked goods, but this place is that hidden gem. The owner and staff are awesome, always very friendly. I have enjoyed the mini muffins, cupcakes and pizza. The cupcakes have a cute shimmer in the frosting. They've even let me customize my flavor of cupcake and frosting without calling in ahead.

Needed a gluten free cake last minute. Staff was very accommodating and helpful. Went out of their way to make a special flavor (pumpkin). Cake was beautiful and what delicious flavor! Even our friends who are not gluten free loved it. So glad to have found this bakery.

Suzanne is an absolute delight to be around! Breakfast was amazing, I loved the flavor of the pinto beans and cornbread muffin! The Paleo donut my son got to decorate with Suzanne made my day. This place really caters to their customers!! So happy my family and I took the drive to visit!

The place doesn't answer their phone calls. I was looking for gluten free options and wanted to speak to someone and got the vm 4 times. I'm new in town so when I drove to the place I had a hard time finding it and then came to find out that it's not at where it says it's at. Step up your customer service or answer your phone. I will not be attempting to come here again! Good luck to those that try to get in touch with people here.

I decided to try gluten-free food for the first time and it was a great experience! Tacos were delicious & I enjoyed the chocolate/coconut bar. Suzanne, the owner, is very informative & down to earth.

Was recommended to visit Powerhouse Bakery and stopped by after a workout. The staff greeted us promptly, we ordered our food and the owner, Suzanne, made us French toast and eggs even though she didn t have any prepared. She was so warm and kind. You can tell she loves what she does! People tend to order the meal plans and go, but we sat in the bakery and enjoyed a DELICIOUS breakfast. She even offered agave syrup to avoid my maple allergy. Definitely going to come here again and will be ordering meal preps

I m sorry but please DO NOT buy a cake from here. Unfortunately, I ve been surprised twice with a cake from here because I m grain free/gluten free. If I knew I was being surprised with one for my wedding shower yesterday I would ve told them to not get this.
The cake part is so so dense and honestly tastes like a candle. Plus it s over $100 bucks for a maybe 9 inch in diameter single tear cake! Really disappointed my bridesmaids spent so much on this and it turned out like it was. I ve had grain free cookies from here before that aren t bad. All in all stick with their meals and definitely skip the cake.

We went for a celiac friendly birthday cake and ended up buying a variety of things. Everything was delicious. The owner is very friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about healthy food.
