Great experience! We got referred here by a local woman we met at breakfast. Went late afternoon and had an awesome experience. Ordered the calamari and then split the two lobster special. The blueberry cake and Ice cream for dessert was over the top. Our server was excellent both attentive and distant so we had time to enjoy the meal. Highest recommendation!

Came to Maine to seafood. After sifting through All of the local restaurants, we ended our search at the Pothole. BEST decision we could make. Tried about everything they offered , and Loved every bit of it. From the Lobster roll, to the crab cakes, and the Lobster mac and cheese! Great food and super friendly staff!

Waited at the table for over 15 minutes before any of the many servers recognized that we even existed. Service was very single threaded. Chowder was served, 10 min later the Bisque. Fish and chips served 5 min later the fries served. Fish tacos were tasty but ice cold.
Terrible experience. Only reason 2 stars versus1, early season and poorly trained staff.

The food was pretty good, the service was terrible. We waited close to 40 minutes for our food, and our waiter didn't ask us if we needed drink refills once. That being said it was a Saturday night, and it was pretty busy. I have eaten here for lunch and had great service, and everyone is allowed a bad night. I will definitely eat here again because I did have such a great experience the first time around. Hopefully next time it will be just as great as I remembered it to be.

How many times can you go to a restaurant that has remained open and virtually unchanged for almost 100 years? First dined here in 1990, and returned in 2021 for the twin Lobster platter. I think a lobster with fries cost around $12.95 in 1990. 31 years later, I paid $29.95 for the double lobster dinner. It was as delightful as I remembered.

If you're visiting Portland and want to enjoy lobster properly, come here. 2 lobsters are gonna be plenty for dinner, a bit of work, but worth the adventure.

Lovely location. Very nice views of the water and some nice craft beer selections. Make sure you as for the haddock bites to be crispy if that is your thing. Ours were very lightly fried. Also, we never got napkins or silverware. Make sure to request some when you are seated otherwise you will treasure hunt through the restaurant to find some. Great views

The Porthole is an institution. There are few things better than hanging out on their deck in the sunshine after a long winter! Great drinks, good food (the fish & chips are excellent) and a casual atmosphere make this an easy place to be. It is one of our regular go-to spots. Can't wait for them to start up the Friday afternoon / evening bands on the deck!

Yum! Yum! Yum! My first time with a fresh from the water Maine lobster and I got TWO! My waitress was kind enough to teach the proper method of enjoying each delectable morsel. I paired it with a Maine Distillery Mule and ate outside on the spacious dock. SO yummy!

Was recommended by a bar waitress up on Fore Street. Great food, very casual atmosphere, good drinks, great service. Our first time in Maine, from Texas. We were going to another place but turns out very touristy and pricey, and asking her about it, she was honest and led us to a great local place. Highly recommended. Can't wait to go for breakfast!!
