Phil was an amazing host, really engaging with the group and customised the tasting.
Beautiful views, fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Amazing value for money. Cannot fault our experience! A must visit when you're in the hunter.
Dissapointed. I've always loved Cockfighters Ghost wines but when visiting the cellar door we weren't given a friendly greeting, in being asked if we were all tasting we were told for 7 people we needed to book. Understandable, sort of, but who books when heading to the Hunter Valley? Anyway, it wasn't explained in a friendly way...and as only 5 of us were tasting, it seemed cold. Maybe saying it in an apologetic way would have been better.
What stunning views and such serenity. This is the second time I have visited cockfighters and once again I was not disappointed - Donna provided us with a wonderful private wine tasting while we chatted and enjoyed their delicious wines! Will be back for sure next time we visit!!
Phil the cellar door manager made our visit sensational. He was fun, friendly and super knowledgable. Thankyou Phil, you were the perfect match to the wine :)
Excellent experience with Wayne! Great knowledge to complement the delicious wine. Beautiful location, nice place to share a meal or cheese board.
Just went to the restaurant for breakfast, a wedding post breakfast and was superb
Tracie helped us with the wine tasting. She was well informed and knew exactly what we wanted. We never liked dessert wine but she changed our mind
Omg!!! Just amazing. From the experience, to Kat (she was lovely) to the wine (amazing - def try the Nebbiolo) and the grounds. Very impressed!
Joanna was very helpful and knowledgeable of local wines. Thanks so much!
Phil (my glass) was a sensational host for my family & I. We had the best wine tasting experience and left with two bottles of the nicest tasting wine we had ever drank!
We visited the cellar door at a busy afternoon, but the service was still outstanding. We feel very grateful for Phil s great presentation of the story of the winery and the wines. The view is amazing and the wine is exceptional. Will definitely visit again.
Great service, great wine. One of the best in the hunter.
One of our favourite wineries we have ever been to. We sat on the terrace outside with stunning views over the water and hills, and the wine was the best we tasted in the whole Hunter. Kat our host was fantastic, so attentive, helpful and knowledgeable. We left very happy and with a few bottles of wine!
Nice little place the wines are quite reasonably priced.
Best wine we tried on our recent trip to the Hunter Valley, by far! The 2006 liqueur shiraz and the accurately dubbed 2015 'The Legend' cab shiraz merlot blend were the standouts of what was fantastic tasting experience. Special thanks to Phil, the manager, who took us through each selection expertly and even brought out a couple of wine club exclusives for us to try. Couldn't recommend more!
What a nice setting amidst the vines. The cellar door allows you to do tasting in indoor comfort while overlooking the vines. Staff are friendly and very knowledgable about the wines. Highly recommended.
only tasted the wines here, provide magnum sized and a bigger size wines, pretty nice view out the back, staff in the tasting bar were friendly and informative
Very pleasant. Worth a visit and buying a case or two.
This was the Hunter Valley cellar door experience I'd been looking for. A casual intimate atmosphere made personal by Phil Thompson (cellar door manager) who's endless enthusiasm and knowledge of both the area and the wine made for a perfect experience. No pressure to buy, but how can one not, when your welcoming host talks of the perfect meal for each individual wine. It was a Pooles Rock Chardonnay 10 years ago that sold me on classic aged Chardy's and Pooles Rock / Cockfighters Ghost once again proved they not only produce quality wines, but just as important, a quality cellar door experience. Thank you Phil for proving customer service is not just an art of the past but exists in abundance at your establishment every day.
Fantastic premium wine tasting today with Phil - fabulous location and a fun, informative tasting experience.
Excellent range of red wines. I recommend their Shiraz.
I took my partner here in June for his birthday. We landed by helicopter and were welcomed by Phil. Phil was amazing and satisfied our needs. He is full of knowledge and we learned a few things about wine. The staff were friendly and I can happily say my partner said it was the best birthday present ever from the whole overall experience we had. Would highly recommend and would like to return in the future. The food next door was also very nice !
Went for the second time in six months today. Phil was there again, such a nice guy and made for a very enjoyable experience. Great range of wines, reasonably priced - something for everyone. Beautiful outlook overlooking the vineyards and dam.
I've been here twice for tastings, and their staff is always wonderful and great to chat with about winemaking. They really know their stuff. I would always choose their premium tasting from Poole's Rock, the superior label. Delicious wines, with great service. Will always recommend to others x
Popped in for a cheeky wine tasting and Phil treated us like bloody royalty. He was a heap of fun and even with such awesome wines and surrounds, not an ounce of pretension. Genuine delight.
We had a lovely time at Cockfighters Ghost. We sat on the back deck as we had our dog with us and tasted some great wines. The service was very good and we were not rushed at all.
One of the few places I enjoyed the wine in Hunter Valley
Just WOW!
We love everything here, the wines are amazing - every single one of them. The views are spectacular! And the service is outstanding.
Kat was doing the wine tasting for us and she is lovely, knowledgeable and super caring. She remembered exactly who likes which wine in the group and made sure everyone got to try their favourite. Her passion for wine is contagious and we leave every time with a few bottles.
We came here a few times now always between other wineries but we always stayed longer than we planned and it still is our favourite winery in the Hunter Valley.
Wine tasting overlooking the beautiful vineyard including 120+ yr old Shiraz vines. Staff were very friendly, great range of wines particularly recommend the sparkling and liqueur Shiraz. Dogs welcome on the back veranda for tastings.
The service from "John" was amazing, text book perfection. Unfortunately, the food was extremely inconsistent. Entree was great for few and poor for others, while Main followed the same pattern.
Ultimately, the combination of luke warm and dry meals wouldn't be recommended. Though as an optimist, I hope it was just an off night and that others can receive a better experience.
We were delighted to introduce this father and son to Sarah and Phil at Cockfighters Ghost who shared their knowledge and passion with a VIP tasting and private tour of the winery - big thanks!
We had a fabulous night. 10/10 excellent staff& service.
Great winery with great views. We love Phil! Amazing host.
Amazing customers service by Dominic today. Couldn't have been happier with him. His competence, honestly and humbles was so refreshing. Looking forward to come her again if he's going to be assigned to our table.
An excellent experience tasting wines, even during the hectic Easter weekend period. Donna looked after us, giving our small group undivided attention. The wines are delicious and excellently priced, particularly in comparison with Audrey Wilkinson winery, also owned by the same group.
Nice little winery with nice grass area when the sun is shinning
A surprisingly incredible experience, tasting way more wines than we were supposed to. Accidentally stumbled upon a remarkable 2006 liqueur Shiraz that reminded me of Willy Wonka as the flavors transformed across the palate. Ask for Phil McGlass (Phil Collins), he'll be more than generous and take you on a remarkable journey you wont forget.
We came in a party of 3 and was served by this amazing woman named, Tress. She was holding down a full room (there were 4 tables for tasting) all by herself and still manage to give each of the group (including us) her 100%. Granted we had to wait a while before being served which was ok since we weren t in a hurry and was enjoying the beautiful day. I am especially impressed by her ability to give us the perfect balance between giving us enough time to taste and enjoy our selected wines, and coming over to talk to us and giving us a rundown of the wines we were tasting. I would give more than 5 stars if I could for the service she provided (even helped me to look up for freight charges for my country ). We walked away with a few bottles and thoroughly happy. Would definitely be back if I m ever back in the area. Highly recommended
