The food isn't good. But that's not why you go here. You go to enjoy a great play and great times. I've been here going on 10 times and have never been disappointed!
First time and got to see a popcorn shoe. Family had a great time.
Just an incredible Gem of a theater and thankfully, it hasn't changed a bit since I started going some 20 plus years ago. It still feels like home and has an atmosphere that is welcoming and fun. Eats and drinks prior to the show are reasonably priced and the wait staff are so friendly. Seating capacity is around 70 so you need reservations.
Love me some Patrick!!
Love this place for the theatre shows, but the service is slow if ordering and food is just alright.
Shows are ALWAYS awesome popcorn or not! (Man I miss the popcorn throwing) The staff is amazing! It's never a boring night at PST, no matter how many people you bring or even if you're on your own. My only complaint is the food quality. Some of it's made by a 5 star chef, while others taste like throwback school cafeteria food.
I love this place, good dinner and fun to watch play. A lot good laugh, relax and fun...oh yeah popcorns everywhere
A great place to enjoy original and unoriginal local plays. Foods and drink options are okay, the setting is intimate, and the actors usually act their pants off (sometimes literally). Dramas alternate with popcorn tossers. There's often a late-night show after the main attraction with a more adult theme. Most shows are family friendly. Parodies & pop-culture references abound.
My husband took me here for our 10 year anniversary and had a fantastic time. The atmosphere is light and breezy and the show was great.
So much fun! I went with some friends to see a lighthearted Zorro melodrama, and we had a blast throwing "clean dry popcorn" at the bad guys. Good food, too.
I love this place. It's always a fun time especially the popcorn throwing performances. I love to go around Halloween when they put on their spooky funny plays!
Great small interactive crowd with decent eats. Wait staff goes out of their way to make sure you are having a good time
It's a bit crowded but that's just how you know it is good! A small theater but well loved and the staff are excellent. I don't really like the pita sandwiches the place is named after but the "grilled" cheese was amazing.
It seems harsh to rate a theater based on one show but this is not a theatrical review. We found the theater to be unkempt, cramped and uncomfortable. What little of the food we had was eatable, nothing I couldn't do in 10 minutes at home.
As always, this place never disappoints! Another great show, tons of fun, and friendly staff!!!
So much fun. I work night shift and thought I would be sleepy during the performance. NO WAY. So fun and interactive. Please go, it's a great show and lots of fun.
Went to the pocket sandwich theatre tonight, and really wish we hadn t. The service was horrible and the play was mediocre. We had to go in search of someone to take our food order. Once we placed the order, we did get the food within a decent amount of time and the quality was okay. During the intermission, we again had to go in search of someone to take our dessert order.....and when we did find someone, the waitress rolled her eyes at us. The waitress told us they were out of apple pie, but the people seated in front of us both ordered and got their apple pie after we had tried to order that same dessert and before we got our order delivered by a different server. The actors were decent, but the play was not really entertaining. The end of the play was supposedly a surprise, but not really exciting or interesting. This whole experience was a waste of our time and money. Don t do it.
I really love this place but don't seem to come here enough. This time saw the Christmas-themed Die Hard parody and one of the late night comedy shows. Had a blast as I normally do. Always love the melodramas here. They're great fun.
Really great show! We watched "Brandi the Vampire Staker", and as a fan of the original show, it was exciting to witness the humor of the writer and throw popcorn at all the actors and actresses.
Be sure to wear something without a hood. Your friends may be tempted to shove popcorn into it. Extra popcorn boats were 50 cents each.
Lots of fun. Hilarious play" Zombie Dearest"! Great service!
The show was funny and the food was fine. The theater has a cool aesthetic and it is funny being able to interact with the cast during the show
Lovely people, great food, fantastic shows! I love this place.
Excellent service and wonderful comedy that night. Sad they didn't have cheesecake when I went but still a great time.
So much fun!!! The perfomers were great and the food servers were excellent.
Awesome place to go when you re looking for something random and different to do with friends or a date.
Don't bother with the food. The show was fun, and staff was friendly and suggested we wait around to see if any one with reservations didn't show (so we could nab the last few seats that night).
Had a great time food is good and low priced along with drinks. Will definitely be back.
I love the shows here. The popcorn throwing shows are so much fun. Thank you for making it lively with great service especially from Megan :)
Highly recommend seeing a show there. Actors did an outstanding job! Great spot for a fun date night or friends outing or family memories. Saw the Scrooge play. Can't wait to see what is next.
My favorite theatre in Texas! Such a fun and strange atmosphere. The most unique theatre experience you will ever have!
This place is a lot of fun. The actors interact with the audience in a humorous manner. The audience members get to throw clean-dry popcorn at each other and at the actors and wait staff. Everyone is playful and having a good time. The food menu is pretty basic, while being well prepared, tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely a fun evening for adults and children.
There is truly something for everyone in this theater which is why it is still "going strong" after 37 years! Plays typically run for several weeks, four nights a week. In general, every other play is a melodrama (spoof) where popcorn is provided and can be thrown at the villain/s as you boo and hiss at them ..... True audience participation! The non-popcorn shows are selected with a great variety being presented. On non play nights there are sometimes bands, comedy, etc. Among my personal favorites are "Goofballs" and "Singapore Slingers". And ..... there is optional food service available wilh a great variety of offerings. Two of my favorite things ..... food and entertainment ..... at the same time!!! (And, did I mention FREE parking?)
Yet another fantastic evening at the Pocket!!! Perfect show, perfect staff, yummy food, and three hours of pure laughter!!! What a wonderful experience!!!!
Love this place. The shows are hilarious, especially the late night comedy ones. Food is okay, I wish there were more food choices.
So much fun! Great staff! If you've been to off broadway productions in NY, you'll feel right at home.
Intimate and super fun. Breaks the 4th wall regularly. Highly recommend.
I am sure that the popcorn tossing melodramas are not for everybody but I don't know anyone who would fall into this category. They are a lot of fun for kids and adults alike that can exit the day-to-day stresses and enjoy themselves for an evening.
OMG! Don't go unless you're wanting to have a great time! PST is the best. We always show up at 6:30 to eat and have a drink before the show starts. The food is good and the show is always great! The plays swing back and forth between "Popcorn" plays and "real" plays.
Real plays are just that and the one of those that we saw was funny and very good. The popcorn plays on the other hand are usually quite silly, but are always funny and awesome, and the throwing of popcorn at the actors in encouraged. There are two sing along songs at the start and then a very good three act, funny play. You cheer, boo and, as I said, throw popcorn at the bad guy. Be sure to cover your drink with a napkin so that you don't get any popcorn floating in it.
We always have a great time, and would love to see you there if you can get tickets. They usually sell out a few days before the performance, so be sure you plan ahead.
We've been once before where you can and even encouraged to throw popcorn. This wasn't one of those shows. It was called Great Tuma and consisted of only 2 guys doing everything. It had a lot of good and funny parts and some not so nice or funny parts. One sketch that went on longer than we liked was about killing dogs. Nothing racist was said about any race but its definitely not for anyone who is majorly into being politically correct. If your a hard core atheist you should stay away from this performance as they do a whole sketch about God and prayer. Plus towards the end instead of going behind the scenes to get ready for the next sketch they did it there on set with the lights off but still. Then he looked at one woman and was like Oh you scared me I thought you were dead so sorry I was misinformed. The audience lady said and did nothing so don't know if she was upset or offended her expression never changed.
They do sell food and alcohol. The food is delicious. Although we thought we were invisible or something as this was the second time that day we'd been ignored by a waitress. This time through we could get attention of other wait staff as we were near the kitchen. We almost didn't think we'd get dessert at half time as that's when you can get dessert and also pay. But it seemed like we just barely got it before the show started and the waitress couldn't find the receipt as she was like Oh yeah it was charged it just didn't print. I realize the place was packed but still.
The one other performance was years ago and to me better. Five stars for it. I don't remember the title but it was a Christmas one and was just a more fun time to be had. You were given popcorn and encouraged and sometimes prompted to throw it. The show we went to someone put popcorn on the actors head and he just ignored it and took some in his hand and ate it.
I've been here several times and it's always a lot of fun! Popcorn throwing performances are a hoot! The whole audience gets into it but cover your drinks or they will get chewy. Comedy troupe that performed did a great job of keeping the audience involved and laughing. Small venue so get there early. Food is good, not outstanding. Service is good but not great if it's a packed house, but they do work hard. It's the overall experience you are there for and that is always good.
This place is so very cramped, I know I m supposed to say how chic/trendy that is, but my husband and I sat in very uncomfortable seats VERY close to people all around us and just couldn t stay as our backs were hurting, you couldn t move. The seating is first come-the seats are kitchen seats of any and all kinds with a few scattered tables. It was so very run down, not cozy. Unfortunately this place needs a revamping- needless to say, while we enjoy theater of all kinds we couldn t stay long enough here to enjoy anything.
Our favorite spot! We've been coming here for over 31 years. Family owned and run. Everyone is so nice! Love that you can eat and watch a play. Their signature audience participation, popcorn-throwing spoofs are the best! Who doesn't love being encouraged to make a mess?
I have enjoyed seeing plays here for more than 15 years. The best performances are the shows where they hand out baskets of popcorn to throw at the performers and those around you. The food is good, but get there early because it s hard to get any after the performance starts. Also, try and get seats that face the stage. Some seats will be difficult to see when you have to turn your head during the whole play.
My wife and I have been to 8 or 9 shows (we've lost track) at the Pocket, and there isn't a single one we wouldn't recommend seeing twice. The only thing I wish for this wonderful place is that it outlasts me. That the next three generations get to have as much fun as we do with every show, and that the Pocket stands firm in its Mockingbird lot for years to come with the doors open for everyone who loves to laugh, cry, and everything inbetween!
Saw the play "leading ladies" on June 1, 2017. The play was great. Service was outstanding ( we had drinks, nachos and dessert). I expect like going to live theater when you see great performances in a small theater - this had the ideal seats.
We took our 11-year-old daughter to the New York Goofballs Variety performance and she declared it the most awesome thing she's ever seen. This is a small venue and there are several signs that they are on tight budget, but in a world of constant electronic entertainment and huge impersonal extravaganzas, this place is a breath of fresh air and a great return on your entertainment dollars. The staff was super nice, the performers superb, and the facilities clean. The website never emailed us our tickets, but I just called to confirm. The food was not exceptional, but better than I'd usually put together at home. Servers are very busy, but no problem if you don't mind waving them down. All in all, if you are OK with people being human and just trying to put on and support a show, not because they are trying to make money but because they love the performing arts, then you'll love this place.
Great show yesterday. You guys always do a great job. The only thing I have noticed that is going downhill is your food. The pizza was literally like I made it at home and did not even have sauce. It was very poor. I am giving 5 stars because the show has been amazing every time I have went just please bring back the food quality that you had!!!
Took five high school girls. They had a great time. Couldn't ask for a nicer venue.
Went to a Thursday night performance of their latest play Leading Ladies , as someone who does not go to plays I found the experience to be pleasant and very unique. Pleasant in the sense that you re not crammed into movie theater style seating, and have room to enjoy and be comfortable. Unique in that, unlike the movies - sometimes the story takes places next to you and not just in front of you. The actors have an audience they can feed off of and engage with. The food is decent and very reasonably priced and the service is prompt and friendly.
It is a very interesting experience, and this particular play is certainly well written and performed wonderfully.
Show was funny, but too much foul language. Would have been just as funny without the bad words.
I really enjoyed the play tonight and the waitress was great! It's always a good time.
Awesome shows, great actors, good food. Fantastic date spot!
The food and play are pretty goid. Funny cones to mind. But, there is not a full bar. Only beer and wine. Would love to BYOB.
So much fun! I've been quite a few times and every show has been great!
Kind of a fun and weird theater. Shows go all the time. Some good some not so good. They have good food and nice staff. The place looks like it could use some TLC and repairs in places. For the most part, we have enjoyed going with friends. Prices are lower then you might think. Parking is good and esy to get in and out back onto main roads and freeways.
This is always a hilarious and fun experience. 10/10 best date night locale in Dallas.
The unfortunate thing about public review forums are that anyone can write anything, truth or not, about a business. So someone that, lets say, called a business to make a reservation and it was sold out and got verbally abusive to the person on the phone, then writes a negative review with outlandish accusations that gets posted on the world-wide web. Or, disgruntled employees, etc...Not cool.

Love everything about this place. There will be off nights, but the pro out way the cons for sure. If you have some time for sure go to this place.
We loved it. The cast is great and interacts with the crowd. The show we saw was, The Legend of Dead Eye Kate. We took our 10 year old and she loved it!
Go see a "Popcorn throwing Comedy", they're simply the best! This is such a great theater with an amazing atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
Nice and cosey. Small but friendly. Not much space and limited menu. Seats are right up to the stage so you are close to the action.
Local, wonderful, and playful. The shows are fantastic and cant beat the ticket price for locals talent. The food on menu is rather good and I didnt consider it was going to be for bar food. It was really a packed house the night I went to celebrate a birthday. Staff really was wonderful and helped bring out the cake and kept it cold until dinner was done.
Great fun! Outstanding performance! Loved every show we have had the pleasure to attend.
This is the coolest theatre I've ever been to. Every show I've seen, from plays to musicians has been so cool. The atmosphere is incredible and so much fun. The food and service is outstanding!!
I have seen about 10 shows here. Not a bad seat in the house. Decent food and great service. Love this place
Fun times, with light audience interaction. Animated acting and overall great experience.
This place is an institution to Dallas!!! Never gets old! Always a good time!!
Hilarious show "the foreigner" great food. Fantastic time for us.
This place, is something wonderful. Although pocket sandwich is also popular for it's excellent food and it's straight theatre performances, the real show is it's famous mellodramatic shows. Pocket sandwich provides popcorn for you to lob at the over the top performers. This, coupled with the improvisational tone of it's shows provides for a truly unique experience, and is one of the few things in Dallas you truly must check out.
