I am from Colorado and visit Austin a few times a year. The only thing I insist on doing while I m there is go to The Pickle House! The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly, I give it 10 stars

Being a lover of pickles, the name of this restaurant made us curious. When we walked in, I immediately noticed the pickle bar, clean look, pies, and jars of food for sale. You order at the front and sit down. Instead, we took menus and sat down to decide what to eat. I chose the fried fish, my mom chose the chicken salad sandwich I believe and we also got fried chicken for the kids. I imagined a filet of fish and was a little scared that $12 wouldn t get me much. I went to the pickle bar to look around as we waited. So many pickles to try plus cabbage! I grabbed all that I could. The sign says all customers can have some so we took advantage of that and grabbed several and relaxed. The food came out steaming hot. To my excitement, I didn t get a filet of fish but instead two large fried steaks of fish. They were thick too. I tried the sauces on the table and they both enhanced the flavor though the fish was seasoned well. It s better if you fish the fish in the sauce rather that squirt it all over. The crust will come off. The green beans were great too. They may have needed some extra bacon grease or maybe even pepper but still good. I forgot to mention the sodas. The sodas that many Austin restaurants sell are here too. They have sugar instead of corn syrup and then they also have a cucumber watermelon juice that was so good we kept getting up for more. Most of the time I don t go after sugary treats but I had to make an except for that. I ll also have to make an exception flit try their pies. If they have coffee, that will be a perfect treat for coffee and pie for a few minutes break. We definitely need a local pie place here near Drip. We will definitely be back.
The burger and fried chicken were both fantastic and it was delicious fun trying everything in the pickle bar while we waited for our food. I just wish it was closer in toward Austin!
Great home style cooking (better than mommas)! You can tell it s all made from scratch and very flavorful. We had the meatloaf sandwich w/ mashed potatoes, fried pickles, fried chicken sandwich, & kids chicken bites with Mac& cheese. Restaurant was clean & staff was friendly. Can t wait to go back and try the thanksgiving sandwich!
Was not impressed. Over priced food, lackluster housekeeping, pickle bar not stocked, no clean silver, two fish sandwiches, two 1/2 cup mac n cheese, two drinks and all for $34 ?
Great vibe friendly staff and yummy southern style yum yums with a pickle twist!!! Self serve pickle bar is awesome and the fried chicken is soooo good!!!!
Everything we tried was amazing! I had the fried chicken and my wife had the turkey sandwich both of which were great (the turkey sandwich tasted just like day-after-Thanksgiving lunch). The hot sauces are out of this world and like nothing I've had before and the pickle bar is very much appreciated! Will definitely be coming back.
Almost the perfect little place. Not a fan of the mustard on the chicken biscuit, I feel like a pickle mayo would work better for that. Otherwise 0 complaints, solid food.
Wow! Got food to go, and I'm so excited we stopped here. Due to Covid they had a limited menu, but had a Ruben and Chicken sandwich and both were phenomenal. Like, both were top 5 for each type of sandwich. And obviously the pickles are some of the best I've ever had. Only thing I can complain about is that they're too far from me! Well worth the drive.
I went there for the first time today and I was a little skeptical because I am not a pickle fan. I went there and I ordered the TPH crispy chicken sandwich and it was delicious. Every bite was full of flavor and the pickles were not too over powering. The pickles enhanced the flavor, which was great. The service was a little slow but it makes sense because I went on a Friday around 6pm. I also ordered the peanut butter pie and just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The pie was super light and really good. I will be back next time for their food and their pie! They also have brunch now on Saturday and Sunday, which I am looking forward to try in the near future.
Used to buy these pickles at the local farmers market. Best I ve ever had!! It was a must that I try the restaurant on the first day soft open. Amazing! All the pickles you want from the Pickle Bar. Also tried the fried pickles, the breading was soo good. Had a group of people with me and tried other items like the burger with green chile, fried fish sandwich, a reuben. All great!! Recommend everyone check it out.
I am personally not an overly pickle-y person but the chicken and ranch sauce are simply amazing.
The pickle flavor is definitely noticed, but are not overpowering and end up enhancing the salty goodness that is fried chicken. I highly recommend this place!
Edit: Mac and cheese was average but missing something... maybe more salt or mustard powder... the mashed potatoes are good and buttery.
We love fried pickles, so this place was a must to try out! We had the queso and fried pickles. Both were amazing. The fried pickles were up there with the best I have ever had. We also had burgers and the bun just put them over the top. I wish I had known it was BYOB, that would have made the meal so much better! Great place!
Love the pickle bar, lots of variety in the flavors. I wish they had a few more vegetarian entrees, but the spicy peanut salad and fried pickles I ate had lots of flavor.
The fried pickles were great and that's the only reason I can give it 2 stars. We were so excited to try this cafe, but were so disappointed with the meatloaf sandwiches. It looked so good when delivered to our table and I couldn't wait to bite into it. It was so salty I could barely finish half of it. The atmosphere is ok...I guess what's to be expected from a strip mall type restaurant.
The Pickle House is a new restaurant on the way into Drippin and they are awesome. We tried a bunch of different things including, the fried pickles, fish burger, American burger, fried chicken, and the key lime and spicy chocolate pie.
The fried chicken dishes are awesome. It was juicy, tender, and not greasy. Best of all they have a nice soft, tangy pickle flavor that is just right. Worth the trip for the chicken alone.
The American burger was moist, savory with a hint of pickle that really gave it a nice flavor. Pretty solid burger with a Hawaiian roll bun.
The green beans are perfect. Soft, juicy, and with a nice savory bacon note.
We tried the spicy chocolate pie and the key lime pie. Both were pretty good and fresh. The chocolate was a touchy spicy for some, but they said that they were still working on the recipe. The key lime was very bright and citrusy.
Overall the food is great, well worth checking it out.
The Pickle House was sooo yummy. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but I'll try. We started with the fried pickles basket and they were amazing, the breading is delicious. My fried chicken sandwich was phenomenal as well, I am having a hard time remembering a better fried chicken sandwich.... So yeah, it was really really good. The restaurant looks very nice, there are flowers on all the tables. The staff were very friendly as well, we asked them to reheat our meatloaf and they were happy to oblige.
I highly recommend The Pickle House, even if pickles aren't your thing. They've got some great southern cuisine and hospitality, and I'll definitely be coming back soon.
Their pickles ate really good but the food was so salty it was nearly inedible. Plus they didnt know they were our of an item on the menu and we were there waiting for about 10 minitew before they told us and my husband had to choose something else. Probably wont return.
Small, simple place. You order at the counter, food is brought to your table. Definitely comfort food! Pickle bar is a fun touch! Two of us had the pickle fried chicken with mashed potatoes & green beans. Hubby had the meat loaf. The mashed potatoes could use some help but everything else was delicious!!! Wish it was closer to our house. It could easily become a regular hangout! Service was great! Loved the food and the pickles!
First and foremost, the pickle bar is outstanding! They have a variety of styles: sweet, spicy, and smoked pickles. (The smoked pickles are awesome!) The true star of the pickle bar is the pickled okra. Oh man, perfect, snappy, and delicious.
The food itself is solid as well. We had the fried pickles (natch), and they were quite tasty. The breading is a little heavy, but the pickle slices are pretty thick as well, so it's not all friedness.
I got the fried chicken with the queso mac and cheese and green beans. The chicken was great. Crisp skin, well marinated chicken, tasted great. The mac and cheese was creamy, and had a nice consistency to it. The green beans were great as well, plenty of flavor and not mushy at all.
The spot is pretty small, so tables can be scarce if you get there at the wrong time, but they turn over pretty quickly.
We were looking for some place that was not a chain on our way out of Austin today. We hit the jackpot! The burgers are unbelievably good! The bonus was I was feeding a family of eight and I personally messed up two of my daughters Burger orders. The staff overheard them talking to me after we were served and 2 minutes later bacon and avocados were brought to my girls without us asking. Great service,AWESOME staff and really, really, good food! If y'all decide to open another location please bring it to Kerrville!
Delicious! We both got the fried chicken sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The lemonade was delicious, not too sweet which was perfect. The sandwiches were huge. LOVED the pickle bar! And the price was just right. We will be back soon!
When I first found out the guy behind my favorite pickles was opening a restaurant I could barely contain my excitement! The Pickle House was everything I hoped it would be! The restaurant itself is clean with a fun atmosphere. The staff were friendly and courteous. There is a freaking self serve pickle bar with more than just cucumbers. And of course everything on it was delicious! We tried the queso, fried pickle basket, cheeseburger, fried chicken, chop salad and chocolate pie and key lime pie. Every single was was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The fried chicken was my favorite by far. Hands down in my top 5 best fried chicken I've ever tasted! Oh and the pie was phenomenal! I wasn't expecting much out of the desert, but the key lime pie had the most amazing fresh lime flavor and the chocolate pie had a delicious spicy kick to it. Both were superb! I seriously cannot say enough good things about The Pickle House. We will be going back...often!
I got the Chicken Fried Steak and it was soaked in oil when it arrived. I used multiple napkins to dab it off and then under it was a puddle of oil. The batter for it must not be clean because there was 2 pickles fried in with it and some stringy green stuff as well, not sure what it was. The fried pickles also were soaked in oil and it gathered at the bottom of the dish. The mashed potatoes were very bland as well.
I love this new find !! Friendly staff Amazing Pickles, Fried chicken, and the Hamburger with the creamy pickle sauce will have you coming back for MORE!! !
Food was delicious - Texas sweet heat pickles are amazing! Pimento cheese was delicious! They were pretty busy so service was slow, but they were kind, delicious, and took good care of us! Sad I live 30 minutes away:(
Not bad as I love pickles, but they need more legitimately healthy options. The salads are less than healthy and the staff lack friendliness. They seem stressed.
I went in with high hopes. Got there about 30 mins after open for brunch. There were about 6 tables seated or in line in front of us. When I ordered, they were out of the morning tots that come with my meal as well as the bloody Mary I tried to order. I was underwhelmed. I just paid $12 for a biscuit with hardly any gravy on it and eggs which were over cooked from what i ordered. I'll try it again but leaving pretty sad about the experience today. I basically got a whole lot of not things I wanted.
Love how fresh the pickles are - the fried pickles have a satisfying crunch to them! Just wish they leaned a tiiiiny bit less into the pickle vibe by even having plain ranch (and I did ask just to make sure I wasn't missing it). Dipping fried pickles or pickle-fried chicken into pickle ranch is kind of a lot for us casual pickle enthusiasts.
Wow.. what a hidden gem! We stopped on our way to Fredericksburg from Austin. I ate a Rueben and be my wife had the Rachel. Both were fantastic! Both had a veryTexas-y feel to them with extra thick slices of meat. Not your typical deli sandwich. The bread had just the right amount of crunch. Everything was great.. and OMG the pickles. The jalapenos were our fav, but none of them disappointed. We'll be back for sure!
I drove 30 minutes from North Austin to check this place out and boy was it worth the drive! Came here on their second day open, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated (there s also a pickle bar!!). The TPH Burger and fries were delicious, and definitely recommend the fried pickles, too.
The best tasting Reuben sandwich around and that pickle bar was filled with pickled goodness. The pickled fried chicken plate was so juicy and full of flavor it's making me want to come back tomorrow. Great atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and full of smiles.
I had some questions about ingredients (food allergies) and the owner (I believe) was able to answer my specific questions and was very customer service oriented as well as informative and pleasant in his demeanor. The dessert was spectacular. I didn't want to run out of pie!
Not sure why this place has so many stars. It was clean, staff was friendly, but the food is overpriced & pretty tasteless. I was really excited for the pickles & they all tasted about the same, my fried chicken sandwich didn t taste like much (the bun was good but too soft to hold up with the chicken that was on there), the fried pickles tasted like fish had been fried in the same oil which gave it all a weird taste, fries were mushy & underdone, the reuben was ok but there was one slice of corned beef on it. We definitely won t be making another 30 minute drive out here.
Sam the Pickle Man has opened a delicious spot just outside of Dripping Springs right off 290. Everything we had was great! Clean interior and friendly staff. I am happy to see some good ol Southern cooking available in these parts. Can't wait to try more then next time I visit. You must get a slice or two of the pie. It is stellar. Say hi to Sam when you get there he is a great guy who always has a smile and a laugh. Go visit The Pickle House if you want some good old tasty food. OH and the pickle bar is just the icing on the cake. Best pickles ever.
This place was really strange since it came out of no where and replaced a place I really liked, Lox Box and Barrel, so it was unexpected. Also with the name The Pickle House I was expecting pretty bad food, but once the food came out it was incredibly good and surprised me very much. The meat was cooked perfectly, probably will be back
The flavor of the pickled fried chicken was outstanding. But that's as far as the experience went. I did really like the pickle bar, but you're not sinking your teeth and filling up on a variety of pickles, like you might on great chips and salsa. The standard sides of beans and slaw were good too, but no letters to home re said sides necessary. And as much as I tried I couldn't shake the feeling that I was just eating chicken fingers for dinner. Which left me feeling a little underwhelmed by the whole experience.
