About Peter's place: a center for grieving children and families
Peter's Place: A Center for Grieving Children and Families
Peter's Place is a non-profit organization that provides safe and supportive environments for grieving children and families. The center was founded in 2001 by a group of concerned parents who recognized the need for a place where children could receive support after the death of a loved one. Since then, Peter's Place has helped thousands of families navigate the difficult journey of grief.
At Peter's Place, we understand that losing someone you love can be one of life's most challenging experiences. Our mission is to provide a safe space where children and their families can express their feelings, share their stories, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.
Our Programs
We offer several programs to meet the unique needs of each family we serve:
1. Peer Support Groups: Our peer support groups are designed to help children ages 4-18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or other significant person in their lives. These groups provide an opportunity for children to connect with others who have had similar experiences while learning coping skills from trained facilitators.
2. Parent/Caregiver Support Groups: We also offer support groups for parents/caregivers who are grieving the loss of a child or loved one. These groups provide an opportunity for adults to connect with others who understand what they are going through while receiving guidance from trained professionals.
3. Family Nights: Our Family Nights bring together families who have experienced loss for an evening of fun activities and connection-building exercises.
4. School-Based Programs: We partner with local schools to provide grief education and support services to students who have experienced loss.
5. Professional Development Workshops: We offer workshops designed specifically for mental health professionals seeking continuing education credits on topics related to grief counseling.
Our Approach
At Peter's Place, we believe that every child deserves access to quality grief support services regardless of their ability to pay. That is why all our programs are offered free-of-charge thanks to generous donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and community organizations.
