Game changer! The arts have followed me through my life, we dance together. I can't even imagine my life without this school and I can only hope future generations have the privilege of falling in love with Perpich.

The Perpich Center for Arts Education / Arts High School has made an incredible impact in my life - I received a first class education there from many amazing faculty members, and the environment of artistic and academic excellence is unmatched. We are so lucky to have this public school and I am so lucky to have finished my high school education there. It is an asset to the state!

As an alumni I can say with ease, that attending the Perpich Center was one of the single best life choices I've ever made. Not only did it help me to develop lifelong friends and contacts, it also helped to hone my creative abilities and gear them towards real world use. As a successful writer, author, and business owner, I can truly say that I wouldn't have been able to accomplish any of it without the Perpich Center.

As an alum I can say with certainty that this school changed my life. It was a safe haven for me to express myself and develop my creativity. Perpich allowed me to foster a belief in myself, my art, and my voice, and that has been the foundation from which the rest of my academic career has grown.

I would have loved to go here, the school DID accept me, even had my mom pay the fee. Two weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying I wasn't accepted because I got a D in one class. (This was because I was out of school for a week due to surgery, the principal of Perpich knew this because we knew I might not get a good grade) the class was math, something I struggle with even without missing an entire week. I was just proud of myself for even passing, of course to Perpich it wasn't good enough. This is a school for art and for kids who use different learning methods, so shouldn't it be expected sometimes that a kid doesn't excell in a school that doesn't use alternative learning methods?

I like all the good reviews of Perpich from now and former white students but let me give you a look in a black student time at Perpich. I ve experienced more racism going to this school than I ve encountered my whole life. Where do I start, they almost suspended me for a week because I was suspected of having drugs, the police were called on me when I went swinging on the swings because a dorm staff thought I was going to smoke, I was accused of stealing something from a student that another student took because I was the last to ask about it , I ve had a white security guard follow me around school because he didn t think I went there, I ve been casted as a monkey in a play, I ve got asked was I in a gang for wearing a durag to school when it s for waves(which I ve had to educate several students and staff about), etc it s so many more events to say but I ll leave you with this. As the only black male in Perpich (the other two left because they didn t like it) I tried to ruff it out and hold my tongue on a few occasions hoping things would get better but it hasn t and I don t really think they understand something is wrong. I care for and like this school, not only are the classes great but some of people and the dorms as well. I try so hard to believe Perpich will get better but how can I hope to see better in a school that doesn t want to see better in me. That s all I think about daily as I go here, and is one of the many reasons I m thinking about not returning next year because I don t think I AM PERPICH.

PCAE class of 1999. Fantastic high school experience. Every single teacher was engaged and excited to teach - worlds different from my first high school! Fantastic community, first rate education, and excellent preparation for college. This school made me who I am today.

I graduated in 2013 from Media at PCAE. I can easily say that attending the Arts High School was one of the happiest times in my life. I was able to receive an education that fit my learning learning style, and dive into art that I loved. I was allowed to explore both myself, and my voice creatively with the support of amazing, dedicated teachers. I received more support and guidance in preparation for college than any of my friends who stayed at my previous high school. I was able to jump into University with an impressive resume and skills that have served me well. Attending Perpich was an opportunity that I am lucky to have gotten, and I hope that many more individuals like myself are able to discover and thrive at the Perpich Center for Arts Education.

Arts high changed my life. It set me on my own path towards academic success. The community, the challenging academics, and the extremely high quality pedagogy set students up for success, regardless of if they continue to pursue art, or if they, like me, go into academia.

I attended this school when it first opened, and 25 years later I can say without a doubt that it had an immensely important and positive impact on my life. There are some of us who just don't fit into the rigid mold of the regular public school system. Thank goodness we live in a state that has a more expansive understanding of education and the importance of the arts for everyone.

At a time when I was starving for more dance lessons than my family could afford I was selected to study dance at Perpich. I learned far more than dance and academics. I learned to think for myself and to be comfortable in my own skin. As a high school teacher in Minneapolis the last 18 years I have sent several students to Perpich. I hope all my children have the opportunity to attend such an amazing high school.

I went to Perpich 2009 - 2011. I met the greatest love's of my life and a foundation for discovering my self that without I would never have become the Artist nor friend I am today. It is an indispensable experience that is an absolute necessity for helping find out one's purpose at such a wild age. Your child's time here will live with them for the rest of their lives, with such a deeper and more wondrous understanding of what that Life is.

I'm a 1998 graduate of Theater from this school and going there was nothing short of pivotal in my life. I feel my life is a success because of this school and I dream of my children going to a school that is similar around Boston where I live now. I am certain that 100% of the students and faculty feel honored to be there, how many high schools can make that claim? This school is different from any other I can see. That it is a public school for the state is a key difference because it pulls in culture and talent from the entire state. It provides opportunity to unique students who would be swallowed up by their small rural hometowns. I am certain that Minneapolis/St.Paul owes much of its artistic offerings directly to this school. When I look back at my life, the years I spent there are far and away a bright highlight that I speak of often and is a source of pride when I talk about Minnesota.

I spent my junior and senior year here in 03. As a theater major, I learned technical skills and intricate training that I wouldn't have began learning until I was in college, which prepared me for advanced materials and methods of acting that were beyond my age. The staff and dorm team make life on campus easy and much like home, as much as you are living your daily art area. This school made me learn my true potential and I will never forget the dreams inside these hallways.

Graduated from here in 2012. Best high school I ever attended. I give credit to Perpich for all the accomplishments in my life. The teachers genuinely care about advancing academic learning, and having art incorporated into everyday learning allowed me to understand the importance of the arts in our schools.
