About Peregrine Wines
Peregrine Wines: A Premium Wine Brand from Central Otago
Peregrine Wines is a family-owned premium wine brand that has been producing exceptional Pinot Noir and white wine varieties since 1998. The winery is located in the heart of Central Otago, New Zealand's southernmost wine region, known for its rugged landscapes and extreme climate conditions that produce some of the world's finest wines.
The Peregrine Wines story began when Lindsay McLachlan, a successful businessman with a passion for wine, purchased a piece of land in Gibbston Valley and planted his first vines. He named his winery after the peregrine falcon, an iconic bird of prey that soars above the region's mountains and valleys.
Today, Peregrine Wines is run by Lindsay's son Fraser McLachlan and daughter-in-law Nadine Cross. They continue to uphold the family tradition of producing premium wines that reflect the unique terroir of Central Otago.
Pinot Noir is Peregrine Wines' flagship variety, accounting for over 70% of their production. The winery sources grapes from four estate vineyards across Central Otago: Bendigo Station Vineyard, Pisa Terrace Vineyard, Gibbston Back Road Vineyard and Lowburn Ferry Vineyard. Each vineyard has its own microclimate and soil type that contributes to the complexity and character of their wines.
Peregrine Wines' Pinot Noir range includes three tiers: Saddleback (entry-level), Peregrine (mid-tier) and Reserva (premium). The Saddleback Pinot Noir is fruit-driven with soft tannins while the Peregrine Pinot Noir offers more depth and structure with notes of dark fruit, spice and earthy undertones. The Reserva Pinot Noir is made from carefully selected grapes from their best vineyards aged in French oak barrels for 12-18 months resulting in a complex wine with layers of flavors.
Apart from Pinot Noir, Peregrine Wines also produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay Riesling Gewürztraminer blends under their white wine range. Their Sauvignon Blanc displays classic Marlborough characteristics such as tropical fruit aromas while their Chardonnay Riesling Gewürztraminer blend offers an aromatic bouquet with hints of citrus fruits on palate.
What sets Peregrine Wines apart from other wineries in Central Otago is not only their exceptional wines but also their commitment to sustainability practices. They have implemented several initiatives such as using organic fertilizers on vineyards to reduce chemical usage; installing solar panels on roofs to generate renewable energy; recycling water used during production process etc., which earned them Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accreditation since 2009.
