The other day with our exchange partners we went to visit the Parliament of Catalonia where they gave us an inside look. It looked like a royal palace. We enjoyed every corner of Parliament. Although politics I do not know much surprised me that it was completely empty because the news is always full and with people discussing different issues. I really liked the design of the building and it is always good to know a bit of Catalan culture. I highly recommend it to visit.

The history of the Palace where the Parliament of Catalonia is located, is a neoclassical building, from the year 1717 and the architect was Joris Prosper Van Verboom. In 1868, when Ciutadella was demolished as a military fortress to convert it into a park, only three buildings were left standing: the Governor's House, the Castrense Church and the Arsenal (now the Palau del Parlament de Catalunya). In 1939 Franco turned the Palau into a dungeon. In 1945, it was transformed into the Museum of Modern Art. Finally, in 1980 he reconverted into the Palau del Parlament de Catalunya, the President who returned from exile Josep Taradellas.

Very interesting building to visit for its interior architectural diversity. It is interesting to be able to take a guided tour to get better information from every corner of Parliament. The hemicycle is quite small in comparison to how it looks from the TV.

The palace is built in the shape of a cross, with a dome in the center and four courtyards. It used to be an old arsenal Ciutadeli, built between 1717 - 1727 by Jorge Prospero de Verbum. The city authorities in 1889 decided to turn it into a royal palace. The city architect Pere Falke carried out work on adapting the building to a new idea ... Then there was a museum, then the barracks of General Franco, then museum squares again ... And finally, in 1980, with the restoration of the parliament, the palace was renovated, and he again became a parliamentary house (plenary sessions of parliament are held here).
