About P:ear

P:ear - A Place of Self-Discovery for Brilliant and Resilient Young People

P:ear is a non-profit organization that provides a safe and supportive environment for young people who are experiencing homelessness or other forms of adversity. The organization was founded in 2002 by Beth Burns and Joy Cartier, who saw a need for a space where young people could come to feel valued, respected, and empowered.

At P:ear, the focus is on helping young people discover their strengths and talents, build positive relationships with peers and adults, and develop the skills they need to succeed in life. The organization offers a range of programs and services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual who walks through its doors.

One of the key components of P:ear's approach is its emphasis on creativity. The organization believes that art can be a powerful tool for self-expression, healing, and personal growth. As such, it offers classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, music production, creative writing, theater arts - all taught by professional artists who are passionate about sharing their craft with others.

In addition to its arts programs , P:ear also provides basic needs services such as meals , showers , laundry facilities , clothing closet etc . These services help ensure that young people have access to the resources they need to stay healthy , clean ,and comfortable while they work towards achieving their goals .

Another important aspect of P:ear's work is its focus on building community . The organization recognizes that many young people who experience homelessness or other forms of adversity often feel isolated or disconnected from others . To combat this sense of loneliness or isolation , P : ear hosts regular events like open mic nights , movie screenings , game nights etc where youth can connect with one another in an informal setting .

P : ear also has an employment training program called "Barista School" which teaches youth how to make coffee drinks using professional equipment . This program not only provides valuable job skills , but also helps build confidence and self-esteem .

Overall, P:ear is a place of hope and possibility for young people who are facing difficult circumstances. Through its innovative programs and services, the organization is helping to create a brighter future for these brilliant and resilient young people. If you're looking for a way to support this important work, consider making a donation or volunteering your time at P:ear today!
