Oxbow Schoolhouse: A Community-Based Private Elementary School Inspired by Waldorf Education
Welcome to Oxbow Schoolhouse, a community-based private elementary school that is dedicated to providing children in grades 1 - 6 with an education that is inspired by the principles of Waldorf Education. Our school is committed to nurturing the whole child, and we believe that every child has unique gifts and talents that should be celebrated and developed.
At Oxbow Schoolhouse, we believe in creating a learning environment that fosters creativity, imagination, and critical thinking skills. We understand that children learn best when they are engaged in hands-on activities and when they are given opportunities to explore their interests. That's why our curriculum is designed to be experiential and interdisciplinary.

One of the hallmarks of Waldorf Education is its emphasis on the arts. At Oxbow Schoolhouse, we integrate music, drama, movement, painting, drawing, sculpture, handwork (knitting/crocheting), woodworking into our curriculum because we believe these activities help develop creativity as well as fine motor skills.
We also place great importance on outdoor education because we recognize the benefits of spending time in nature for both physical health as well as mental wellbeing. Our students spend time each day outside exploring our beautiful campus which includes gardens for growing vegetables/flowers/herbs; chickens for eggs; bees for honey; fruit trees/bushes/vines; hiking trails through woods/fields/wetlands.
In addition to our core academic program which includes language arts (reading/writing/spelling), math (arithmetic/geometry/algebra), science (biology/chemistry/physics), social studies (history/geography/civics) – all taught through a Waldorf lens – we offer a variety of enrichment classes such as Spanish, French, Mandarin, Latin, yoga, chess, drama club.
We also have an after-school program that provides students with opportunities to participate in clubs and activities such as robotics club; art club; cooking club; nature club; book club. Our after-school program is designed to be flexible so that parents can choose the days/times that work best for their family's schedule.
