Really could not be happier for the price we were quoted on building a new story onto our home in Ottawa. We took some other competing bids that were all about 20k more, and their portfolios of work did not really look as impressive as what we saw from OGC. Even at a lower price, the work looks fantastic. The new story looks like it was always there from the outside, and the interior matches the style of the original home, too.
My husband and I bought a dilapidated Campeau bungalow in the fall of 2018, and we basically had to gut the main floor and start over. OGC were the friendliest company we met with, and their budget came in among the most reasonable of the 6 quotes that we got. We started working with the architect on drawings of the new layout and couldn't believe what they were able to do. We ended up taking out two supporting walls, adding beams and completely redesigning the layout of the kitchen, living room and bathroom. Instead of a tiny window in the kitchen we added French doors straight out to the deck, which filled the kitchen with extra light.
Every part of the process, from design to finishing decisions and the work itself was handled with care, and the whole team were warm and friendly throughout. We're especially thankful to their carpenter JJ, who designed us a beautiful new fireplace surround to match the existing wainscoting, and created new window frames to match the existing ones from 1950 perfectly. While the renovation cost a lot of money, and took a little longer than expected, the work was excellent and we're over the moon with the results. I would happily recommend OGC to anyone:
I would like to share my experience with Ottawa General Contractors.I'm sure it will help others as well. I was going to do a finished basement with them and for more than a month i was trying to finalise everything on my side. Unfortunately I couldn't make it. Meanwhile they were working layout and drawings for the basement.
When I told that I wont be continuing the work,the management was absolutely understanding. The gentlemen that I was dealing with Bryan Sim had spent hours on meetings and drawings for me. But still when I told them I wont be able to do the basement they refunded my money in full without charging for their time. Ottawa General Contractors is a very reliable and honest company. If anyone ever needs house reno done they are people to go to!! 100% reliable company.
Horrible customer support. Quality is really low and they are really expensive. Only one guy on a 40-50k job. Takes days if not weeks sometimes to get a hold of the person in charge. Stay away!
We had a great experience building our home addition with OGC. The design and construction planning part of the project was well organised. Construction started great and it seemed like the structure was constructed really fast. Towards the end it felt like things slowed down by a bit, but I am told that the high detail to the finishing touch requires patience. All in all I'm so very pleased with all that was done. Without hesitation I will continue to recommend these guys!
We were extremely happy with the end result of our basement renovation. The customer service and price is what sold us on using Ottawa General Contractors for our renovation and they completely lived up to our expectations. We have had many complements on the creative ideas that helped us use all of the space in our basement in the most functional and eye catching way. Ottawa General Contractors has a great team!
The job is not finished yet but so far so good. Have really been impressed with Ken Beaubien who helped us get our minor variances and permit from the City. Very knowledgable in dealing with City and great with communication as well - always answers promptly and on time at meetings. Also very pleased with Deirdre Crick, the designer, who showed great patience and guidance with design. She is also super pleasant and also great with communication.
We had a large project within our Condominium. OCG handled our project professionally from beginning to end.
Our project manager Alan ensured that work was done properly and was always available for any questions or problems that came up.

This company will only do good work if you pay them premium prices. For people on a budget you can expect delays and unfinished items repeatedly that they will say isn't in their scope of work.
Allegedly they also have a problem paying their subcontractors so expect payment up front for most of the work and they don't even get proper estimates so you can expect change forms where they increase prices as well.
This is only a small portion of what I experienced. Would never recommend anyone use them and would tell anyone to avoid as much as possible.
I was very nervous proceeding with first time renovations. Ottawa General Contractors put me at ease walking me through every step of the process and assisting me with all of my needs. By far the best company to go with.
Pricing is fair but they have a lot of issues putting their suppliers together to get the job done. They spend more time monitoring the web for comments than managing their suppliers to ensure customer
satisfaction. They take too many jobs at once.

We are Steven and Helen and we were looking for a renovations company to tackle the renovations we had in mind. They consisted of the following: Install Maple hardwood on our main and second floor, redo the stairs, have a pass-through cut out in the wall between the eating area and the family room, remove the brick wall from around the fireplace and install a fireplace feature, and lastly paint some walls on our main floor.
There were some unexpected piping and wiring that needed redoing, but OGC took care of that and at no extra charge.

I heard about Ottawa General Contractors from my neighbor who hired them for a second storey addition. I enjoyed the whole process from design stage, construction, to completion. For the most part everything went smoothly. I loved working with the creative interior designer Sharri who I absolutely adored. The construction process was a bit rocky but to be expected. The team tried their best to keep the place livable as I was staying there through the entire Reno. Definitely I would recommend OGC!
I could not have asked for more professional work from this team. All construction deadlines were completed well within time limits that were communicated to me at the beginning of the project. This was a very large-scale renovation, and their predictability made it very easy to coordinate other work we were having done on the house.

We Hired OGC To Do A Renovation In Our Office To Create An Events Space And A New Meeting Room. I really appreciated the design process. It provided me with direction and clarity on how my office renovation was going to come together. Everything was done accordingly to the project within the timeframe they stipulated at the beginning. They have a client portal that keeps you up to date with pictures and schedules. They kept our office very clean for the entire time, even with all the demolition involved.
I ve completed many renovations in the past OGC is definitely the top one on the list I recommend using. Pricing is fair and I had many people from their team working with me to ensure I was happy.
Had our entire main floor redone using OGC, initially given an 8 to10 week time line., beginning April 9, 2018 ....from start to finish it was a ltitle over 5...... could not be happier with the Team that was put on our project...from day one with the design team to completion Andrew, Paolo, Ken, Maria and Fatima were on top of everything at every turn. The subs assigned were extremely professional and friendly and the suppliers that were suggested were, for the most part, top notch. This co writes its own reviews. Been having issues with concrete, tiles and plumbing that I had to hire other companies to fix. They hire subcontractors and have no clue about larger project than building a wardrobe.
We have worked with OGC as a trade for many years, and it has always been a pleasant experience. Deirdre is professional, friendly and accommodating - it's clear she takes pride in fulfilling her clients plans!
We had hired omplete a powder room, built-in bedroom storage, and a full kitchen renovation. Total cost of the renovation including materials was approximately $70,000. Total time of renovations was approximately 3.5 months. As we have had experience with other contractors in the past, we are able to judge and compare their quality of work with other contractors. Quality of the work was good. We had a very clear plan of what we wanted, and OGC was able to do everything to our expectations. We provided them with images of everything we wanted, and this helped that planning immensely. There was no second guessing what we needed done. We had some challenges with OGC in regards to getting all of the materials picked and ordered but we might be partially to blame.. All in all they made an effort to help us resolve them as best as they could. In the end, we were able to work with each other to get over all the issues & problems we had encountered. Overall, we are satisfied with Ottawa General Contractor's level of work and performance.
As a trade partner electrician, my team and I have been working with Ottawa General Contractors for the past 4 years and have yet to see another contractor as professional, customer driven, and as keen on quality of workmanship. The entire staff of OGC are wonderful to work with. I mainly interact with the project managers Allan, Paolo, Michael, and Robert are always punctual, detail oriented, and very involved throughout the jobs, which makes them great team leaders. Ottawa General Contractors always have my highest recommendations.

I have recently hired OGC to design and build my large addition and custom detached garage project in Kanata. I would confidently recommend the team at OGC to take care of anyone's build from start to finish. Originally I had went through this process with a contractor who did not offer design, do not make the same mistake. The design process allows you to be in full control of your project. It provides you with details and information on how your project will come together. I have passed on my great experiences with the team to my friends and family and would not think to take the chance on another builder to work on my major renovation plans.
I ve been working on infill home as investments for several years, and hired Ottawa General Contractors to handle the renovation of my most recent one. This is the best team I ve worked with yet. I used a Kijiji contractor once and I will never use them again! I paid the contractors and they didn t even finish the work. On top of it the work wasn t done properly so we had to get it redone. I approached this company to renovate my kitchen. I did not get a great impression from them because they flat out told me that they are not interested in doing any renovation for less than 20k. I got the impression that they were not interested in redoing my kitchen unless I was willing to completely gut everything. I think that this is disappointing, some kitchens already have a functional layout and components that are worth keeping (it would be wasteful environmentally and financially to tear them out).
We contacted several companies, and OGC was the first to get back to us and schedule an appointment. We came to the first meeting with a budget and our basic requirements, and no idea of exactly what we wanted and how it would all come together. Since the first meeting with Nick, we felt instantly at ease and well supported in our project. Jasmine craft-fully navigated our very different tastes to come up with design selections that balanced my need for a neutral spa feel with my husband's need for something a bit more wild.
Unfortunately, we are still waiting for them to pay our invoices. It's frustrating that they are getting their money from a project, but they don't pay the subcontractor.
OGC did a reno on my parents property - they refinished two washrooms right down to the studs right to the finished product. They delivered on time and the work was very clean. I would definitely use them again.

I would recommend this team for kitchen renovations based on the work they did for our home and the kitchenette they built for the infill home we recently completed in Ottawa. I gave very different instructions for both projects, but allowed them to handle most of the design beyond that. We got amazing concepts back from them, and they made them look just as enticing in real life by the time they were done.
We contracted OGC for rejuvenation of our condo complex of 102 units. which included the design services of Deirdre Crick. Deirdre's mastery of interior design and up-to-date product knowledge has given our building's common areas the refresh and style we were seeking --and she did it quickly within budget! During the design/planning phase, Deirdre met the Board of Management several times with samples and concept boards, that followed promptly with mock-ups to facilitate our review of options and decision making. During execution, Deirdre remained in close touch to review progress, answer our questions and provide attentive customer service. I've worked with OGC for the last 5 years as their cabinet supplier, and have worked with a few different departments. Deirdre and Karley from the Material Selection department are extremely organized and bring clients to me with developed ideas to work on for their kitchen, bathroom or custom millwork. They are very easy to work with and helpful with pushing the clients in the right direction for their designs. The project managers Allan and Paolo are very knowledgeable and execute the project with great communication with their trades and clients. I see a lot of happy clients coming out of their projects!
Before getting in touch with OGC I had other companies do small projects but there was always something wrong at the end. After getting in touch with OGC and looking at the result of the project I had given them I was more than happy. Strongly recommend OGC for any kinds of renovations.
OGC completed my project on time but we did go over budget by about 3%, but this was mostly due to additional items we requested from them. We really enjoyed the process and although we have a few difficulties with the inspector, OGC did a great job standing up for us and ensuring our budget did not get completely compromised. With older homes sometimes inspectors expect you to build your project to the latest standards and this can sometimes cost you an arm and a leg for next to zero benefit.
We have worked with OGC for years and value their expertise in the industry, particularly that of Michael Kline, one of their PMs who is always pleasant and easy to work with. Overall, it is consistently a positive experience to work the Ottawa General Contractors team.
The actual work that OGC did on my interior renovation was good and the finished product looks very nice overall, working with them was a good experience. I understand that renovations sometimes take longer than expected and our house is quite large but the end date we were told was the end of April

We purchased a home in Ottawa a couple of months ago to be our future forever home. During the process we searched and interviewed a number of contractors prior to hiring OGC for design and build of our project. Initially we met with Nick who provided us with a thorough understanding of OGC's services and process. We were so impressed with the professionalism of Nick and all of the staff we met at OGC, that we took the first step of having the designs done with them. I will start with the bottom line of my thoughts on working with OGC, which is, if asked by a friend, I would recommend them. On the whole it was a positive experience, the bathroom they designed and built for us is tasteful and well-built and they were good to work with and very professional throughout the experience. If you want some more detail I will include it below.
Sales: We started off working with Nick, who did sales and the basic design and needs with us. We had three other quotes as well and, for what it is worth, OGC was the highest bidder. But we were also very impressed with their well laid out and explained process that Nick walked us through.
Design/Materials: We started off working with Tanie, who we felt didn t really want to listen to our wants but did help us design a practical bathroom that will be great for resale. Tanie left the company half way through the design process. She was replaced by Deirdre, who I have to give huge props to. She did a great job taking over without a ton of documentation and really helped steer the design more towards what we were looking for. She also had a lot of really practical suggestions, it was good to work with her.
Build: Michael was our project manager and Edgar of Laverne Home Improvements was the lead/owner of the sub-contractors who did the build. Both were great to work with in their own way. Michael was really good on the communication front and kept us well informed on what was going on. Edgar and his team did their best to work around us and produced a nice finished product without any real major snags. The project was on budget and on time.
Communication: As I mentioned OGC has a great process and were pretty good at communicating with us throughout. If I had one gripe it would be that they often didn t seem to have communicated with each other. For example we had a bit of a miscommunication around the bathroom door and everyone said someone else would buy it. It all got sorted out, but probably would have been easier if it was just communicated up front.
Finished product: Looks really nice, seems to be well built. It was more expensive than we would have hoped but the costs were well inventoried for us and there weren t surprises. Besides a few minor finishing details that didn t get done perfectly (e.g. the grout) the work seems to be of really good quality and it seems like it will last well. We are quite pleased with it all, it really turned out better than expected.
It has been 8 months since Ottawa General Contractors finished up the work on converting our very wet, damp Cold Storage space into a very dry and usable storage space. Both the inside and outside of the Cold Storage space and along the front of our house were sealed and insulated. It made an incredible difference in our basement. Warm and dry!
The deck that was built on top of the sealed and insulated old exterior concrete stairs on the front of our house is beautiful. From beginning to end OGC was professional, courteous, and kept us in the loop as the project proceeded. It was a pleasure having OGC handle this 'Little Big Project' from start to finish.
