Designed at the end of the 70s to replace the old ...

Designed at the end of the 70s to replace the old hospital (called at the time of the foundation in the mid-800s by Count Alfonso Turconi), it has marked a steady growth in size and quality of services over the years, becoming one of the best hospitals in the region.
Relevant excellence is for the maternity ward where mother-to-child contact and breastfeeding is promoted together with very useful and instructive prepared courses.
Another excellence is the orthopedics department with particular attention to the upper limb, without neglecting everything else clearly.
Of course there are pros and cons like everywhere but the commitment and care towards the patient are very welcome.

It doesn't look like a public hospital, more like a private clinic. I found cordiality from the reception to the hotel staff, from the nurses to the physiotherapists, up to the doctors as it had never happened to me. Very clean room, cozy, free wi-fi, incomparable dinner with those served in Italy. Even a welcome set containing soap, shampoo, creams and more. Just like in Italy (yes, but in a 4-star hotel, not in a hospital). In the evening, after the surgery, the surgeon, Dr. Taverna, came to my room and "told" me about the operation I had immediately, also answering my questions and my doubts (exactly like in Italy) . During the night, as the pain increased, it was enough to call the nurse on duty to receive a phial of morphine that could make me feel better and rest. In Italy, (xxxxxxxxx) I had to threaten the doctor on call to call the police with a cell phone if they hadn't done something to alleviate the pain I had after surgery. Why does it seem to us to be in another universe?

Saturday 15.09.2012 at 17:00, almost 6 years ago, ...

Saturday 15.09.2012 at 17:00, almost 6 years ago, after having experienced a feeling of pressure in the chest for most of the day, I went to the emergency room of the OBV. After a superficial analysis, the triage nurse makes me sit in the waiting room. After 2 hours, my worried wife is able to contact my doctor by phone who immediately understands my state of health. HEART ATTACK. Surely the call to the emergency room by my doctor was not of pure courtesy, in fact 2 minutes later they took my blood for the analysis of the case and 5 minutes later I found myself inside the ambulance in the direction of the cardiocentro di Lugano where they were inserted 2 stents to open the occluded coronaries. However, the heart suffered an injury and now its functioning is 58%. I was lucky, but not thanks to Mendrisio's emergency room. Almost 6 years later, always on Saturday, but on 07.04.2018, my son with an evident swelling in his right jaw, goes to the emergency room of Mendrisio. Entrance at 13:35. A triage nurse visits him briefly and makes him sit in the waiting room. After 3 hours of waiting, at 4:30 pm, my son asked the receptionist how long he would still have to wait when other patients who arrived later were admitted and dismissed in a short time. "I can't tell you when. Emergencies first." This was his answer. Still feverish, she sits down again in the waiting room. At 5:10 pm he is finally admitted and prepared on a bed. At 5:20 pm the Doctor arrives and after a short visit, she is called on the phone and disappears for 15 minutes. On his return he was diagnosed with a right mumps. He leaves it to go and prescribe Brufene. 17:50. At 18:00 an assistant arrives bringing him a Brufene tablet. At 18:10 the doctor returns with the decommissioning letter and the medical prescription to go to the pharmacy on duty, in Chiasso, to pick up a package of Brufene again. More than 5 hours have passed since he left the house on his return. I recommend everyone to go to the emergency room in Faido, you would do it first.

I was admitted from 8 to 10 October 2019 first in the day hospital department and then in surgery for an inguinal hernia operation; I wish to express my gratitude and my personal thanks to all the people who took care of me, especially in the most particular moments. Dr. Brenna and all his staff have been exciting to say the least, both professionally and from a human point of view, to the point that I didn't realize if I was a guest of a 5-star luxury hotel or in a Hospital. Exceptional assistance and unparalleled availability, high quality personalized menus, incomparable cleanliness, in short, a highly reliable structure. Well done, good, good!

I was admitted to the emergency room on Saturday morning, October 26, due to a severe headache and general malaise. I was almost immediately taken over by the nurse in charge of the "triage" and then by the emergency room staff.
I would like to thank again all the people who took care of me and, in particular, the nurse who followed me all morning, Dr. Federica Bertone and the head doctor Dr. Emmanuela Parete, for their professionalism, empathy and kindness, with which they treated me.
Fortunately, the results of the tests I was subjected to did not reveal any important pathology and I was able to go home reassured with the necessary therapeutic indications.
I thank everyone, really from my heart!

I would like to add my modest suggestion on a formal aspect. I was disturbed by the way patients are called, in the waiting room, with their simple surname. It seems to me that it should be possible and more elegant to say: Mrs. XX, Mr. XY; perhaps for younger patients simply the first name could be used.
Thank you for your attention.
