I was not impressed with the help from the gals up front. They need people who have a passion for blind adults in there. We had to ask for information in braille. they said why are you blind? As we stand there with a cane and asking for services.

Great place with plenty of info and help for the visually impaired. They gave my girlfriend a CCTV which was a life saver for her. Now shes able to work at home and feel like she productive. I like the CCTV as well
These people are worthless. I went to them so they could assist me in finding a daytime job and I found myself doing everything. They didn't help with any leads or a resume. All I got out of them was low vision aids of which I didn't ask for. Every time you call they aren't available to speak to you. This place is a big waste of time and money. In addition I asked for them to help me get into a talking book club with the state and of course I did all of that on my own. Again these guys are a joke.
Speaking for my aunt who is seriously vision impaired and receiving book tapes. What is sent to her is lacking in quality when it comes to authors under current selections and many times she receives tapes (according to her genre selection) that are of no interest to her....they are waaaay off the mark. Sometimes she gets book tapes that are completely ridiculous. She appreciated the service, but most of the stuff is really lowball.
If you need help with your blindness and finding a job or navigating your home, OCB can help. Currently closed to the public but still assisting clients. Give them a call!
The Oregon Commission for the Blind has literally been a life saver for me. After I was declared legally blind, I fell into a pretty deep depression. Then I got hooked up with services from OCB and they taught me valuable life skills and ways to make job accommodations. They helped me regain my independence, for which I will always be grateful.
More recently, the staff at this location have helped me immensely. They were able to help me pay for college, and I achieved my Bachelor's degree with less student loan debt than I otherwise would have had.
After getting my degree, they hooked me up with a job developer who has been working with me to improve my job hunting and interviewing skills.
The people at the Salem branch are always pleasant to work with and know me by name even though I don't often go into the office. They're always willing to meet with me when they're available, and they even sent someone out to my home to help me set up my new apartment with raised dots and other independent living aids.
I can't say enough great things about the services this valuable organization offers.
