It's a bit of a drive to get out here, but it's such a cool area. There are a few hikes around the area that can be done if you're waiting for your tour. The tour guide was super energetic and informative. It's lit up inside, but it's definitely a little chilly and there a quite a few stairs to climb.

A wonderful place to #findyoupark
Go explore the caves or hike around the park, the rangers are nice and willing to help!
Be aware that you shouldn't bring clothes you have gone into other caves with as there is a disease affecting bats spreading through the US, they will ask, be prepared!

The large cave offers guided tours for a reasonable price. Call ahead for start times so you don't wind-up waiting. No backpacks/purses/kid carrying is allowed on guided tours. Smaller caves offer self guided tours and are more kid friendly. Check their website for safety precautions including claustrophobia. Definitely a place you'd want to visit if you enjoy the wonders of nature!

A great adventure. Our guide was Chaz, and he was full of cool information. The cave is eye-popping and wonderful. A must-see if you're around there. Pro tip: your WHOLE PARTY has to be with you to reserve a tour time. So go early, and bring everybody.

I've been here a few times a couple decades ago and had a blast. Aboit a minth ago I took my girlfriend here for her first time and we both had an amazing time. The ranger that guided us really knew a lot about the cave systems and made the walk through a lot of fun. I will recommend this place to anybody anytime, no questions asked. This national monument is beautiful inside and out.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon without having made a reservation. When we arrived there were no tours available. Spectacular and fun hairpin bend drive up to the attraction. Friendly and helpful staff. If you go to the diner in the cheateaux the ice cream root beer float is good.

If you haven't visited a cave before or want another one to go to, this would be a good one. A lot of good stories and information told by the guide (our guide was Chaz). Just so you know, you will have to stoop to the size of an 8 year old occasionally and climb a good number of stairs but it was worth the trip.

This cave is extremely strenuous to hike. Visitors are required to climb up and down 500 steps that are uneven, slippery, and more then half have no guard rail. Visitors are required to bend down to travel through low passages. The formations are not as pretty as other caves I have been in.

Interesting, informative, fun and a great family outting. Easy walk. Don't touch anything. Be prepared for damp. And incredible beauty.
Be SURE to stroll through the Interpretive Center beforehand, it's quick and full of interactive displays that even adults enjoy! (Well, this one sure did! )
Then go to the beautiful and historic lodge-style restaurant at the chateau across the street and talk about everything you saw over a meal. The architecture and decor is classic.

I loved this!!!

I loved this!!!
The geology is amazing
The tour (you must the- no self guided tours here unlike the caves in Bend) was fantastic. The rangers are friendly and helpful.
We also did a few hikes around. There are no easy trails. But I didn't have any problem with the strenuous ones and we did all the hikes pretty quickly (about 2/3 the time they said it would take)
If you can stay at the Chateau, that's awesome. You can't beat the proximity to the cave entrance. No wifi, tv, cell service - so leave your phone in your room and enjoy the beauty and quiet!
The food was good. The bed was comfortable (maybe a little saggy but this isn't the Ritz. It was MUCH better than when we stayed at glacier or Yellowstone)
I'm itching to go again

A definite place to visit. Our only dissapointment was that the last tour is at 4pm and is a candlelight historic tour that is only 45 minutes for the same price as the 90 minute Discovery tours offered earlier in the day. I will return for the 90 minute tour and the scenic highway that gets us there. Awesome.

Outstanding tour through some pretty amazing caves. The tour requires many steps and sometimes ducking under ceilings as low as 48". Definitely worth the trip.

DO NOT wear any clothing that you have previously worn in any caves or underground areas since 2005. They will make you go change. There is an invasive species of fungi that has killed millions of bats in the US & Canada and they are trying to prevent it from spreading into this cave system.

Had a great tour with a young zestful park ranger! Made tons of corny jokes for the kids and led us on a safe tour through the centuries old cave that was deemed a National Monument by President Taft because of it's unique characteristics. The tour guide really gave us a full history of the cave and put us in the perspective of the original cave explorers and their experiences. Even saw a bat!

Park says open 24 hours so we stopped in. Gate was locked but park ranger drove up and said that it was fine to go in and take a look around. Definitely going back to check out the caves.

Had a great time exploring the caves! Fun and educational. Quite a few steps to climb and elevation gain but nothing so strenuous that, even if you're out of shape, you likely won't have a problem with this tour.

We stayed the night at the Chateau and had a 10am reservation for the tour of the caves. We woke up earlier than expected and asked if we could switch it reservation for 9am and they let us. There were only 7 of us on the tour including the tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the caves and the history of how they were "discovered". It was quite the experience knowing we were the first ones in the caves that morning and the caves were absolutely mind blowing. You must see to understand.

Our guide for the Discovery Tour was so passionate and endearing. He got everyone involved in the process of exploring the caves, and had such a wealth of knowledge to share with us. On a separate note, the milkshakes at the chateau here are TO DIE FOR. Get a hazelnut chocolate shake. I promise you will not regret it.

I've been on the Cave tours several times. It's a good place to take visitors to our area and it never disappoints. This is one of the best cave systems in the nation (I've been to quite a few.) They have special tours during the year - the candlelight tour, tours of new rooms opened up, and more. In summer there is often a star party, a great chance to see meteors from the top of Grayback Mountain. Always call ahead to make sure tours are running and buy tickets ahead of time at the IV Visitors Center in Cave Junction, to make sure you get on the tour time slot you want. Signs at the Visitors Center let you know the wait time during busy summer hours. You can enjoy a more relaxed tour in spring and fall and the scenery then is magnificent. I recommend the Oregon Caves for cave tours, hiking the beautiful trails around the mountain top, and a stop in the gift shop for great animal, mineral and plant ID guides, hoodies, souvenirs and educational items. Cost for a tour is about $15 and well worth it.

Nearby lodging is at Country Hills Resort, about 10 miles fromthe Caves. Other places are Out n About Treesort, Kerbyville Inn on hwy 199 in Kerby, Holiday Motel in Kerby, and Vertical Horizons on Dick George Rd just outside Cave Junction. The Chateau at the Caves is closed for renovations till 2021.
