You come and get my hopes up only to tell me that it's a 6 month-2 year wait. From what disgruntled employees have said I'm so happy you rejected me.
The true miracle of modern medicine is diabolical. It consists in making not only individuals but whole populations survive on inhumanly low levels of personal health. - Ivan Illich
Open Sky manages the care of my son. He was originally with bridge before the merger. No doubt that the new company that was formed has had some transitional pains, especially with their staff. I understand this as I have experienced the pain of merging companies. That said, I have found the organization to be very concerned about the well being of my son. They are working hard to combine the philosophies of two very different organizations.
I am a welcomed and respected part of the treatment team and volunteer to help with educational opportunities. In time, I expect to see Open Sky become a model organization for mental health care services.
From within the organization, decisions are often based on monetary restraints. But, as a non profit, they have Limited choice but to be mindful of the bottom line.
I believe in this organization and highly recommend reaching out to them if you need assistance with mental health support services. The CEO, Ken Bates is an innovative leader and is always open to ways to improve the organization s impact and effectiveness for this under-served population.
An Open Sky, sure. But, we do not stand under it ( this Sky above us ) as equals.
The service is here are so great everybody should take advantage of this
This company is also known as The Bridge and Alternatives Unlimited. Residential Counselors are under alot of pressure to have daily "billables" because the Human Resource office says the state requires it. Billables is an act and documentation that the company can "bill" for and get revenue for having their clients. They require too many which cannot be acheived in a day along with completing other tasks. Supervisors DO get bonuses if they meet the billable quota as they can pick and chose items from a book but the company will deny they get bonuses. Many "MOR"s take place everyday and are covered up by the supervisor. An MOR is a mistake in administering medication to the clients and can be lethal if a mistake is made. Counselors are told by "On Call" which is the emergency contact for the group home to wait to call for an ambulance even if the client is self-harming themselves. They are told to wait until the client says they need an ambulance. This is an illegal practice and will get the company and counselors sued if anything happens to the clients. The fire alarm system is not hooked up the fire department which is against fire codes for a group home and is a huge violation. Taking time off is often denied even when there would not be a problem with the dates selected. Favoritism is to blame. Some counselors will play "dumb" and state they do not know how to complete some tasks in order to get out of them. This adds more pressure on the counselors that have to do their work for them. Supervisors that have no people skills and lack of education in laws, regulations and protocols/standards that they must abide by is the reason for a depressed hostile work environment. Employees in the group homes in Gardner, Fitchburg and Leominster, MA also have relatives that work for/and or connected to the Department of Developmental Services, DPH, Massachusetts Fair Labor Division, Attorney General and local emergency services. So they are being watched and will be investigated by those other agencies. Hopefully the atmosphere will change for the better but so far Human Resources is not taking anything seriously. They recently reassigned a supervisor but filled the position with another one that does not have the adequate experience and education to be in that position so clients and counselors have to suffer.
Best place to work by far. No stress at any of their facilities. Hope to stay there until retirement. Wonderful staff, management. Human resources department is always there and willing go out of their way to help you when needed. - Kim Hyvarinen - Residential Counselor
