Prefect place to come and skate with friends. There's skate and helmet rentals for those who don't have skates. The ice quality is pretty decent considering all of the activity it gets.

Skating here is pretty popular so expect a fair bit amount of people when you visit.

The oval is a Calgary landmark. I've been skating here for over 20 years. As a student I'd use the speed-skating surface as my study breaks when I lived in campus housing. This particular visit was for the UofC Alumni Association's "Skate with Santa" annual event. This year people had to pay to come and it was excellent! No over-crowding, plenty of access to Santa, lots of crafts/activities for kids and yummy desserts available.

The oval is really awesome for skating indoors, family friendly, and relatively affordable considering the high quality of the ice and track. If you like to skate fast there is usually enough room on the outside lane but you have to be mindful of beginners and children. There are season passes for people who want to skate often. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Before Win Sport started running it, would have rated the oval 4 stars .
Since July 1 of 1987, I skated at the Oval close to 1000 times as I enjoyed it so much. However, skating there became a drag for me in the winter of 2013 with having to wear a helmet and not allowed to go backwards and do spins, etc. Also, the attractive ladies that brightened up the place all but vanished from the scene . They skate at the Olympic plaza or the Bowness Lagoon where helmets do not rule . I have been to the Oval only twice since 2013 and as it is now, will not be back. At least, do not have to pay a fortune to park there. Thanks for the memories.

If you could give this place zero stars or a minus I would. Was there for a hockey ice time on a Sunday night not a vehicle in site anywhere in the parking lot or on the street but they expect you to pay 22 dollars to park after paying for the ice. If not a 60 dollar ticket. Students are expected to pay this? Someone in the parking department has lost complete touch with reality. Not paying, and never going back.

Fastest ice in the world. Great ice skating place for beginners and for athletes. Many public skating times with reasonable pricing and onsite skate rental. Can rent regular hockey scares or speed skates. Has hockey rings in the middle. Kids and family and first-time skater friendly.

Fantastic place to learn and practice skating. However like most places in Canada there's not much supervision. I don't mind paying for learning or public skating but seeing free-loaders almost everyday makes it a bit unfair. The question is how do they get in? That's something the management might want to ask him/herself one day.
