Amazing location, good reviews, way less than ok food. Sorry. Served us appetizers before the bread, and it was stale and hard as a rock. Coconut shrimp had a half way decent taste, but was not fresh nor cooked any time recently. Salad was blah, but the kicker was the smoked salmon. Most inedible entree I have ever been served. Sorry again. Could not even get one bite down without lots of water. So dry and overcooked had to send it back. This place is clearly a landmark and known for its great ocean view, but if you actually want to eat might not be your best option.

Pre-covid, great place for a casual date. Friendly staff and great ambiance. Good views of the water and you can see the seals. Best seafood Alfredo I've had. You will spend a pretty penny if you don't watch yourself.

Great seafood restaurant on the pier. The food is outstanding. Come early in the evening and seating is no problem. They have salmon, shrimp, lobster, any form of seafood you'd like. Seating with a view are also available.

This is not a cutesy place with meh food.if you want that pretty atmosphere go elsewhere.
The staff is great, food is good, love the mai tais. Great clam chowder. Great view of ocean, very relaxing atmosphere. You can also sit on top floor and order from the bar menu, both places are nice to sit and eat,but I prefer downstairs, with bigger menu. Bathrooms, eek! Kinda a tight space.

My daughter and I visited LA and decided on a whim to visit Tony's on the Pier after a fabulous paddle boarding adventure at Tarsan. We both had the clam chowder which was very delicious. We also had the Maryland Style Crab Cakes and Tony's Coconut Shrimp. Both were awesome. The best I've ever had. I'm very glad we visited!

Time to close the doors!

Time to close the doors!
As a resident for over 40 years, my wife and I decided to vist Old Tony's on the Pier again. Big mistake! First of all we got there about 6:30 on Sunday and 'no' wait! Red flag. I ordered their special 'Mai Tai', worse Mai Tai I have ever tasted. I did not keep their special glass it came in! The food was equal to the Mai Tai, the calamari was okay, a very small portion for a not so smaal a price. My cioppino tasted like 'fishy' fish cooked in ketchup. My wife's crab cakes, over breaded and tasteless. Needless to say, a very disappointing experience.Much better food and experience at Kincaid's or Blue Water Grill. Time to close the doors OldTony's! Ranked # 100 on Yelp! 99 better restaurants!

Old Tony s is the BEST! Best classic vibe place left in South Bay. Support them as often and as much as you can - it would be a shame to see another Southbay classic gem like Tony s fall due to the rising rents charged by the city for Redondo pier leases (shame - the businesses can t sustain the lease prices that the city now wants). We love Tony s and will continue the tradition.

Abosultry lousy seafood and they charge like they're an upscale restaurant. Their suggestion was to order something fried because their food isn't fresh. The manager just didnt care about anything

I want to say it's been around 25 years since I dined here. The place hasn't changed one bit! Still got the great view of the ocean, still have all the celebrity mug shots on the walls, still have pretty much the same menu and still has all the same wonderful charm! Really enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The seafood chairbroiled sampler was great and so was the salmon chowder. We had a nice lunch even though it was balmy on the outside, we we were nice and cozy inside. Take a trip back in time to this lovely restaurant!

Googled seafood restaurant. Got Tony's. Did we ever luck out. Nice location on the water with parking nearby. Great food at very reasonable prices. Plenty of choices on menu. Drinks were reasonable. Kathleen waited on us. She was accurate with our order, friendly, polite, and did a great job.

Seafood and fish, the dishes are fixed, we took fish and fries. It comes with soup you can choose type, fresh and tasty food, excellent ratio, the restaurant is rounded off the pier.
Arrive, order a place and it can take about half an hour to 45 minutes, if there is a place at the top of the restaurant (bar) go upstairs and wait there until a place is vacated and for two years you get a drink.
The view is stunning!

Always great food, currently outside on the pier. And my favorite: Mozarella Marinara. Friendly staff, after so many years everyone there is like an old friend. Perfect for a weekend outing with kids. It's always fun and Tony's is patient. We will be back.

Tony's is one of those icons or landmarks that is a must visit for dining, if you're in the Redondo Beach area. Located on the Redondo Beach pier, it is the perfect place to drop in for a meal, drinks or an appetizer after a relaxing stroll. I love visiting Tony's because it brings back fond memories of when I lived along the Strand about 30 years ago. Tony's has withstood the test of time and continues to be a popular place to dine.

There are many tables located along the windows inside the restaurant, where you can relax, look out at the pier and watch the waves break into the shoreline. Service was excellent and quick, drink orders were taken right away and warm fresh bread served up to get things started. The server came by regularly to refill water glasses and check if anything else was needed.

Being in the mood for a variety of appetizers, I ordered steamed clams, crab cakes and coconut shrimp. I don't typically eat steamed clams, but I must say that these were some of the most tasty clams I've ever eaten. With a touch of garlic and lemon, they were excellent! The coconut shrimp went quickly. They were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside made to perfection. The crab cakes were the size of a potato and went well with the beer that accompanied the meal.

Tony's is a wonderful casual place to dine while visiting Redondo Beach. Stroll in, relax and create a memorable experience.

Nice seafood restaurant right on the cove. We sat on the enclosed deck overlooking the waves. A seagull visited at the window. Good selection of dishes. Special prices of $18.95 for certain dishes between 3 and 6pm so I got the chargrilled seafood combination with shrimp, scallops, swordfish and salmon with smoked salmon chowder, steamed mixed veggies and rice. Normally just rice or veggies but I ordered rice and the staff brought veggies so I got both. My dish regular price is $26. $8 and 9 dollar cocktails.

Spent New Years eve here, and I must say a few fire chiefs are a great way to start the new year. Beautiful view over the water with a relaxed crowd. The people who usually frequent this place are fun to be around, with some live music that isn't deafening.

Your choice of a "crow's nest" bar upstairs or a classic pub downstairs, Tony's provides a comfortable place to catch a drink with friends and chat with the entertaining dry-wit bartenders. You can feel the history around you as this place has been a local favorite for decades.

Needed to kill some time before a date so I found my way to the pier to explore. Old Tony's seemed like it had the best vantage point on the pier and it is! Ordered a drink and took in the sights. I'll be back for sure.

Great ambience, an older restaurant on the pier, just above breaking waves. Lobster and the scallops were excellent. And for tradition's sake, order a Mai Tai, which includes the Tony's souvenir glass.

Great service. Our waiter was awesome. Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We were one the first groups that came in for dinner, so the restaurant was impeccably clean. Our food was rather quick & delicious. I'd definitely love this place, however the San Carlos location offers some items that aren't available at Tony's on the Pier

Not exactly what I expected. We visited on a Wednesday evening at the upstairs bar area to see the sun setting. The place looks like it needs quite a bit of up keep and remodeling. I understand is a long time staple of the area that has been around for decades but why not do a little upkeep and remodeling. Bar menu was very small and not much variety. A man with a guitar came up to the small sounds system area by the window squeezed up between our table and the one to our back side and started singing with his guitar. He played various songs although they all sounded pretty much the same, with the same guitar cords and same mono tone sound that was one with very low energy and enthusiasm. Most of the people there, bit of an older crowd, seam to be friends with each other or know one another, one thing for sure, you get an amazing view of the sunset from the upstairs bar

Went to Tony's just before Christmas. Haven't been in over 6 years or longer. They are just as good as they was when I first went sometime back in the 70's.
My only complaint would be they really need to upgrade their restrooms. As long as they been there and as awesome as their food and drinks and service, surely they can afford to upgrade. If your in a wheelchair forget it. Or if your bigger than say about 230 + pounds forget it. I use a walker and I had to close it to get in the door then hold on the walls to get in the stall, hoping I would not fall.
I LOVE Tony's but I won't be going back because physically it was just too difficult.
My ONLY reason for 4 stars instead of 5+.
Now if you have no physical challenges Tony's is the bomb. Be sure to try their Clam Chowder, which has not changed since 1971, and the house salad. You will not be disappointed. ..

To be fair, I'm not really reviewing the restaurant but the bar upstairs. I'm not a fan of their "world famous" mai tais (and I do like a good mai tai) but the views are unbelievable, the sunsets spectacular, and the fact that the place shakes a little when a big wave hits the pier just makes it to unique to miss.

First things first, the name says Old so don t expect a modern restaurant. We went here with a party of 8 and had a great meal. Great service staff helping each other out and bringing out food quickly and removing used plates just as fast. We all had a great meal and really enjoyed the food. The restaurant decor is old and charming, but the food is worth it. My wife and I went back the next day in the afternoon and enjoyed drinks upstairs in the circular bar. The view was cool and the bartender was great to talk to. I can t remember his name, but he s a Michigan native and we had great time. Even some of the locals were fun. Good place to check out.

Stopped by here by chance of whim. It was a nippy night out, with the chilly sea breeze blowing. Walked into he establishment without reservations and got a table-for-two in under 6 minutes on a Friday night; mind you, the place was full. Friendly greetings and prompt service was in order and the staff did not disappoint.
Sat down and ordered the Smoked Salmon Chowder and the Coconut Shrimp Dinner.
Although the bowl of soup was smaller than expected, it was superb!! The coconut shrimp came with another soup, salad and a side (I chose linguini in a clam sauce).
Left with a doggie-bag, as I was so full!
The meal was fantastic and hit the spot.
All throughout the meal, the servers would top-off my water and check-in with me.
I was truly impressed with my dining experience here and the only negative I could find was that the bathrooms were a little cramped and the seating wasn't too spacious. But the panoramic windowed-seaview was more than enough to make up for that!

Tony s has to be one of the most fun bars I have stumbled across in a long time. We sat at the circular bar upstairs and chatted with the bartender and a few locals. The drinks are cheap, the views are fantastic and the ambiance and service is amazing. They played great 70s music, then around 6pm had a guitarist taking requests, with the crowd singing along. Happy hour is $1.50 off all drinks. We had the popcorn shrimp, which was deep fried and tasty, but nothing special. The decor is as if nothing has changed since 1952, and I hope it never does! If you re in Redondo, you have to go to Tony s.

Go for the view but avoid the food.

Go for the view but avoid the food.

My girlfriend and I showed up for dinner. We were eventually greeted by a host that did not seem to actually have a hosts station but rather just floated around the general area of the door. I cannot really fault them for this as the restaurant does not seem designed for a host station nor a waiting area. When we were seated, we were placed next to a busing station. Again, I do not fault the restaurant for this. You show up without a reservation, you get the first available table.

After we were seated, several window tables opened up. We asked the host if we could be reseated to a window table and were told that those tables had a separate waiting list and we would have to wait an additional 15+ minutes to be reseated. We stayed at our original table while the window tables (yes, plural) remained empty for the entire duration of our meal. I pointed to a specific empty table during my request, literally just across the walk way from where we were seated and in the same area of our waitress. So in summary, we were lied to about availability of better tables for no apparent reason. I can only imagine that it was a result of the laziness of the host that we were not reseated.

We got our starters. The Smoked Salmon Chowder was Amazing. I would highly recommend it and order it again in a heartbeat. The Clam Chowder, however, was beyond disappointing. There were "at least seven" bits of clams in the entire bowl of clam chowder. Yes, we meant "bits". The clam chowder was 99% cream broth.

When we got our entrees, our server offered us "fresh pepper" from a bowl. This was very confusing because it was the same pepper that we had from the pepper shaker on the table.

The crab cakes were frozen. Sad, considering the location of this restaurant. Frozen crab cakes are bad enough, but they were not properly cooked and cold on the inside and mushy.

I have never had Lobster Thermidor before, but if their version is any inclination, I don't want to ever have it again. Where was the lobster??? The cheese and wine flavors were overpowering...is this what I should expect??

Personally, I liked our waitress, she was personable and sold us on the food. Unfortunately, she never returned to offer us a second drink and we weren't able to get our check until someone else boxed our food.

I will say the baked potato was amazing, only because it was drenched in butter.

BTW...we threw our boxed food away while on the pier. Honestly, I am not a fan of "leftover" seafood, but if I didn't want to eat it while at the restaurant I could not imagine wanting to eat it at home.

I would go again for drinks with a view, but NEVER go for the dinning experience.

We did see live crabs at another restaurant on the pier and will be going there really soon....FRESH SEAFOOD...YAY!!
