Old Down Country Manor Review

Undoubtedly a fantastic site. But having worked there for a long weekend in the kitchens I can't recommend it nor would I visit to eat there myself. Needs time and effort spent on hygiene and organisation and could become an amazing site.

If you are going to have a function make sure they let you have a surprise visit to the back of house areas so you can see how they function day to day and when not expecting inspections.

A beautiful spot! Very well located just off the M48 and views of the Severn Bridge. Lovely staff, stunning venue and good food!

This venue is amazing. The food is top quality, well cooked and the service is 10/10. There's so much to do here, nature trail, enjoy a variety of animals including a peacock, party and eat.

We were not staying in the main building which meant we had to go outside to get to/from our room. This was an issue when raining. It should also be noted that rooms in the main building are en-suite. The rooms in the other building have shared bathrooms

Not great at handling a large group, even though we had phoned ahead. Over 45 minutes waiting for a coffee and a piece of cake. Passable cake, OK coffee.
Shame, because otherwise it *is* pretty and would make a nice cafe stop in a ride around the Cotswolds.
The people serving were polite and good natured, which may have taken soome patience when so many cyclists turned up for a mid-ride coffee and cake.

Amazing place would highly recommend for a great day out and you must try the barn restaurant!! It absolutely delicious

Excellent networking event with Working Breakfast every other Wednesday at this fantastic location.

We cannot recommend Old Down highly enough. Emma and the team were fantastic and enabled us to have a perfect wedding.

Nothing was a problem even when we had guests drop out at the last minute, Emma reassured us and we could trust her that she would sort things. Throughout the day Lucy and Emma ensured we had everything we needed and the staff were attentive to our guests as well.

The day itself ran so smoothly and it allowed us to relax throughout. All in all we had an amazing day due to having such a wonderful team!

Exciting venue with a grand entrance hall which really brought the Great Gatsby party to life

It's the first time I've ever been inside the house. It was to a (35 seat approx) screen viewing of the new lion king film, situated in the the hallway beneath a magnificent chandelier.
The staff were lovely and helpful.
Before the film I took the opportunity to have a look upstairs. All the suites named after local villages.

Old Down Manor is beautiful wedding venue! The location is great and the gardens very well kept. Super friendly staff and the food is fantastic!

Such a stunning venue, the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I love working here for bride and grooms and the set up always looks perfect and with the uplighting around the room to enhance the look.

We had our wedding at The Barn on the 24th Aug and I have to say, Lucy and the team at Old Down were just amazing. She made everything really easy and was very accommodating. Nothing we asked was too much trouble. On the day, everything went exactly as we wanted it to and we didn t have to worry about anything. All of our guests said how great the venue, gardens, food and staff were. We really couldn t have asked for a better day!

A lovely Manor house set inside the old down estate. It is surrounded by lots of trees and beautiful views. The inside looks amazing, and it would be such a lovely place to hold a wedding or an event.
You can park here if you are disabled, if you are using the Manor.

Had a fantastic afternoon tea party with a group of friends brilliant food and service would highly recommend.

We got married at Old Down in early May and want to say a huge thank you to Emma, Jason and the team for helping to make it so special.

We chose Old Down because of the amazing view and grounds which looked even more spectacular in the spring sunshine. The atmosphere was relaxed, service discrete and friendly, and the food delicious. We had great comments from our guests.

Emma was a great support to us in the months leading up to the wedding, helping patiently with all my questions. On the day, Jason was amazing he has a good sense of humour and kept the day moving smoothly so we could just relax and enjoy it all.

Thanks Old Down - we ll be back soon to visit and reminisce!

Great venue. We were lucky enough to play at Old Down Manor on 3/6/17. As a wedding band we get to see a lot of venues. Old Down Manor does not have noise restrictions like some venues (if you plan on booking a band this can be important). In the house the band / entertainment sets up in a separate room which means if speeches run late this will not effect your band from setting up in time. It also means your band can set up their equipment without having to walk past your guests with lots of boxes. The house is very beautiful and grounds are well kept. The house also has a pool which is pretty cool, I am not sure what the terms are, but I imagine after a hard night partying a dip in a warm indoor pool would be quite nice. If you are looking for a venue close to Bristol I would recommend Old Down Manor.

Fabulous venue for corporate events and a perfect location for a beautiful wedding

We just had our sons wedding there yesterday and it was perfect. We had littlejohn room on top floor overlooking the grounds and half of Bristol it seemed. Beautiful place would recommed it in an instant. Well done all at the manor and thank you

A truly beautiful place. Visited for a friend's wedding & was very impressed. The location & standard of the venue was exemplary. The range of drinks on offer was great. The food was delicious. The staff were very professional & made the whole day feel seamless.

Jasmine and the team at Old Down made our wedding day just perfect. Their help with organising and setting up really made it a stress free process, even with 120 guests! The venue is so picturesque, we will cherish the photos forever.

I attended a wedding at this venue and what can I say... The venue was excellent, the staff were useful and it made a very enjoyable experience. The venue is located just outside of Bristol and just off of the motorway which made the location exclusive yet convenient for all. The only potential negatives are that the cloakroom is limited as if the size of the bar.

Stunning views, fantastic food and great hospitality - all you need for a business event (or a wedding) Well worth a visit.

Our day was perfect! Lucy and the team at Old Down were absolutely amazing. They were organized and accommodating, making it seamless to plan a wedding there from abroad. We didn t have to worry about anything on our wedding day. The food and wine was delicious and surprised our American guests who were expecting "wedding chicken". We couldn t have asked for a better day.

Afternoon T was Not as Good as I was Hoping, But a sunny day made it Worth going.

It's an amazing venue, with great staff and I can't wait to get married here.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Old Down Manor last week and simply had the best day. Right from our very first appointment, the team were so attentive, helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The day itself was run very smoothly thanks to Jason and Emma's direction, and so many guests commented on how beautiful the venue was. Can't fault it!

We had our wedding and reception at the manor in October and it was the most wonderful day. The manor itself is absolutely stunning and such a perfect wedding venue. Throughout the entire planning process and lead up to the day Emma was so amazing to deal with, she always responded to my many queries in a timely manager and made sure everything was answered. She really made me feel at ease about the planning and run up to the wedding and I can't thank her enough for making our day so perfect. Jason and the front of house team were also so brilliant on the day, everything was explained to us so we understood the running of the day and they all made sure everything went without a hitch.

I really could not recommend Old Down highly enough nothing was too much and truly lovely people to work with you and be there on your special day who all made us feel at ease. Thank you so much to everyone at Old Down!

I had my wedding at Old Down Manor in May and what an unforgettable day it was! Planning my wedding was made so fun and easy by all the staff and my wedding co-ordinator Emma G was amazing! The day turned out to be what I had always dreamt of and more! The staff on the day Including Warren and the bar manager helped make the day effortless! The Manor is stunning and I couldn t be happier with my wedding day! I can not thank you all enough!

Beautiful venue, good food. Grounds were amazing. Only downside staff for the park aren't really sure what to tell you as a wedding guest, parking is in the normal car park then walk through the large gates around the corner then right to the manor house (no signs for some reason).
Bar prices are reasonable no more than a bristol/bath bar would be.

Funded Brexit. Very sad! I will study this dumb deal! Stop destroying this country

Myself and Craig would like to thank you all so much for making our wedding on the 14/02/18 so special. You made the whole process so easy and really did everything you could to ensure the smooth running of the day, especially in the months leading up to the wedding with changes and requests.

Everything, from how beautiful the manor looked, accommodation of artists such as the harpist and band,the canapes, to the absolutely delicious afternoon tea that you prepared combined to create an atmosphere that was truly spectacular and a day that we will never forget. Everyone even commented on how good the wine was!

Everyone that stayed at the manor was thrilled with the rooms and if I had a pound for every guest that asked how we found such a stunning venue we could probably get married again!

Thank you so much and I hope you're all well. We will definitely be using our complimentary passes for life so we shall both be visiting soon.

My wedding ceremony was held here Friday 21st April. It was amazing! The house and grounds are fantastic. All the staff and wonderful, helpful and very organised. Jason looked after us, he was a lovely guy and ensured everything ran smoothly and according to plan. My wedding coordinator was originally Adele, and changed to Katie a few weeks before. Both ladies were fantastic, very informative, helpful, organised friendly and nice. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our special day.

A fantastic wedding venue with beautiful bedrooms and amazing service. The staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble and they ensure your day runs smoothly. The drinks are a little expensive but this is often the case with wedding venues. The views are incredible. Well worth a visit if you're planning a wedding. The manor also hosts different events throughout the year.

I attended a wedding here, Lovely building but lighting to the car park could be much better.

I went to a wedding here a few years ago and now realise the owner is the guy who gave us Brexit. Well all I can say is that the room was overpriced, the food was mediocre and the marriage ended in a bitter and protracted divorce. There's a metaphor there.

Fantastic remote country house, perfect for a Wedding

From our first viewing right up until the wedding every member of staff that we met at Old Down were friendly and helpful. Any email correspondence was answered straight away and no question was too silly! Old Down Estate supported us throughout the wedding planning process.

When it came to the rooms we had the freedom to make them our own - a refreshing change to some venues who do not allow this. Each room was stunning and the venue wowed guests.

The food was amazing and so many people complimented it! Again all staff were friendly and helpful and the service was fantastic.

Throughout the day myself and my husband were reassured and talked to about what was happening and when. It was well organised and we didn t need to worry about a thing.

We cannot thank Old Down enough for everything they have done to make our wedding so magical and everything we had dreamed it to be. It will be a day we will never forget.

A nice location and good looking building but feels cold

We had our wedding at The Manor and had the best day (despite the rain!). Lucy and the team did a brilliant job, they were on hand for everything we needed and made it such an easy and carefree day for us. The venue is stunning, it didn't matter that we couldn't use the grounds on the day because of the rain because there was so much space for the guests and The Manor is really stunning. We also really enjoyed going around the County Park the morning after the wedding, we will definitely be back again.

We've performed here on several occasions. Helpful staff, grand rooms and priceless views. An outstanding venue.

Having attended a function here some time ago as a mystery customer, I felt I should leave an honest review on how I felt about the running of this establishment.

The quality of food here is exceptional, as are the range of drinks on offer. I found the staff attentive, but seemingly unenthusiastic about their work. I later discovered that this was due to how they were being treated. The manager that evening seemed to be herding them around like farm animals, barking orders rather than speaking to them politely. This left a bitter taste in my mouth, as I have previously been a restaurant manager and know how important it is for the atmosphere, and general morale, to treat staff as equals. Despite the unnecessary strictness, the service was often slow. And we were often without a jug of water on our table.

I decided to investigate further, and took a walk around the ceremony room. This was when I heard the chef barking orders at the waiting staff in an extremely unprofessional and aggressive manner. This was completely unacceptable. No establishment should be run like this.

I would not recommend the Old Down Manor to anyone for these reasons. The food is fairly decent, but the service is not. There is a clear lack of respect amongst members of staff. It was not difficult for me to see why.
