We love K12 and Ohio Virtual Academy! The teachers are amazing and genuine! They hold online class connect sessions daily and also set up outings and events where students have the chance to meet and interact with other students and teachers. The curriculum is great. Working at your own pace means my kids aren't bored with things they already know and don't get left behind when they don't understand something.

I absolutely love this school. My middle son has a learning disability and had issues in brick and mortar school. He wasn t able to learn at the same pace as his peers. Now, he s able to not only keep up but is above grade level with his reading. I m excited to see what this year has in store for him. Teachers have been amazing, they are helpful and understanding. Through the app, attendance logging is easy, and I love that he can go at his own pace.

If your student is motivated, or the parents are willing to motivate the student, then this is a great place for self paced learning with a flexible schedule and lots of educational opportunities. If you expect a school to raise your child or shove knowledge down their throat, then perhaps a more traditional environment would be appropriate.

Reviews are usually given by people who are unhappy and often those who are satisfied rarely think to give reviews. I read some negative reviews and think it is very sad because in our case it is an amazing school. It is school, it does require effort and does require doing the assignments, but it is school! It is completely free, they supply everything you need for the exception of things you would purchase for your child in any school (paper folders etc) They provide twice a year a stipend to help with internet. Provide computer, printers, books. We have had very caring teachers and having class connects helps make sure the child is learning. Just remember because someone had a bad experience, it doesn't discount the entire school.

I had my kids in OHVA for the last 5 years. I recently decided to switch to another school because they were giving my daughter no support in math. The other online school is amazing! It s made me realize there s an easier way to teach my kids. Please consider other options before going through K12/OHVA.

This school provides various books, however, no actual instruction happens to assist students on core competencies prior to the assigned work. For example, a third grade child, is given an assignment or a quiz to complete order of operations (PEMDAS) when they covered solely basic multiplication in the class earlier that day and have not covered how to perform parenthesis then exponents, then multiply, divide, add and subtract. The blackboard class interface is always experiecing issues and very rarely does a class run as scheduled. The teachers offer no support or help sessions. Sad excuse for a school. This is okay for middle school aged or high school aged children that are self directrd and can be self taught.

We have used OHVA now for our youngest child for 8 years. In a world where everything can be done over your cellphone, I find them to be behind the times. The beauty of Homeschooling is to be able to do it anywhere. You would think they'd have the technology to do their live (Blackboard) classes over your cellphone pho n e but you can't. I can do live conferences and meetings with my elderly mother in her nursing home so why can't our children do online classes over their cellphines as well? Sure would help while at cancer treatments our child could attend her classes or at a park even!

Have just been informed that beginning this next school year and for the foreseeable future we'll be able to connect to live sessions via our smartphones. So win, win!!!
