Oceano Wines: A Woman-Owned Vineyard Producing Award-Winning Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
Oceano Wines is a woman-owned vineyard located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The vineyard produces award-winning 100% Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are hand-harvested at Spanish Springs. Oceano Wines is also SIP certified sustainable, which means that the vineyard follows environmentally friendly practices to produce high-quality wines.
The History of Oceano Wines
Oceano Wines was founded by Rachel Martin, who has a passion for wine and sustainability. Rachel grew up in the Central Coast of California and has always been fascinated by the region's unique climate and soil conditions that make it ideal for growing grapes. After working in the wine industry for several years, Rachel decided to start her own vineyard with a focus on sustainability.
In 2008, Rachel purchased a 10-acre property at Spanish Springs in San Luis Obispo County. The property had previously been used as a horse ranch but had ideal soil conditions for growing grapes. Rachel planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines on the property, which thrived due to the cool coastal climate.
The Philosophy of Oceano Wines
At Oceano Wines, sustainability is at the core of everything they do. The vineyard follows environmentally friendly practices such as using cover crops to reduce erosion and promote biodiversity, conserving water through drip irrigation systems, and using natural pest control methods instead of harmful chemicals.
Oceano Wines also believes in minimal intervention winemaking techniques that allow their wines to express their unique terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness levels to ensure maximum flavor development. They are then gently pressed before being fermented with native yeasts from the vineyard.
The result is award-winning wines that are true to their varietal and terroir. Oceano Wines has received numerous accolades for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, including a 94-point rating from Wine Enthusiast for their 2017 Spanish Springs Vineyard Chardonnay.
The Wines of Oceano Wines
Oceano Wines produces two main varietals: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Both wines are made from grapes grown at Spanish Springs in San Luis Obispo County.
The Chardonnay is a classic California-style wine with notes of tropical fruit, vanilla, and oak. It is aged in French oak barrels for 10 months to add complexity and depth to the wine. The result is a rich, full-bodied wine that pairs well with seafood, poultry, or creamy pasta dishes.
The Pinot Noir is a delicate yet complex wine with notes of cherry, raspberry, and spice. It is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months to add structure and balance to the wine. The result is a smooth, elegant wine that pairs well with grilled meats or roasted vegetables.
Both wines are available for purchase on the Oceano Wines website or at select retailers across the country.
