I had the worst experience with Dr. White one of the surgeons at OSVS. I have been a long term client through the hospital. We have always had a good experience and everyone was friendly. Unfortunately, maybe a little too friendly. At my last appointment. Dr. White asked me out on a date. Which yes caught me off guard. Yet it got worse, when the technician brought me my dog, I asked if Dr. White was single.....no he is engaged to one of the hospital staff. What a creep. My dog and his care is now through a different hospital. What a creep. what an awful hospital.

I am kind of torn on my feelings on Ocean State Ve...

I am kind of torn on my feelings on Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. We brought our dog there because she was having issues with energy, staying awake and had stopped eating that morning. Our primary vet believed they saw fluid around her liver and sent us to the ER. We waited for 2 hours before someone came out and said that they had JUST reviewed her paperwork and were now concerned and wanted to check her out right away. We were shown to a room where we waited almost 3 hours before a vet came in and asked us about our dog's history. The vet herself was very friendly and I could tell she cared, but we had been there for 5 hours with a dog that was having serious issues and they had not done anything. After 3 more hours we were told they didn't know what was wrong with our dog and that we could take her home or leave her there overnight. We asked if the vet believe it would be okay to bring her home and she said yes.

The next morning my dog was having issues breathing, so we rushed back in. They took her in immediately this time. She was in heart failure and passed away within 2 hours of arriving. The staff was very compassionate while we went through one of the worst days of our lives. We asked that she be cremated and returned to the vet. Her ashes arrived back 7 days later.

At this point it was hard not to feel the original vet had missed something and had not given our dog the kind of attention she had likely required. Or perhaps she just did not have the knowledge base that was needed.

When my husband went in to collect her ashes they left him waiting, in the waiting room, surrounded by people with their live pets for 45 minutes!!! We lost our pet, we are bereft. She passed away in this building and now my husband had to sit with no pet, surrounded by others with theirs while waiting to pick up the remains of our own! Could no one step away from the desk for a couple minutes and bring our pet out to him?! I was truly and deeply upset when I heard he was still waiting for her to be brought out to him. He had gone with what we thought was enough time for him to pick her up, get some of his emotional response out and then get to work. Instead he was late to work and even more upset. I was kind of appalled.

The only "good" experiences we had there was when our pet was being euthanized. The staff was very attentive and understating during that time. Outside of that we felt somewhat overlooked.

My 13 year old chihuahua collapsed in February 2020. We rushed him in and he was immediately seen by their doctors. We were told he had a heart condition and were given a plan to manage it. Over the next 6 months we made a few scheduled visits and 2 more emergency trips. Through it all, the doctors here were caring and patient when explaining our options. When it came time to say goodbye to our little guy, the folks here were so kind and so supportive. While the services here are expensive, they explain all of the pricing up front and your options to reduce costs. I highly recommend this place!

A ligament replacement, a ruptured disc, chronic eye inflammation, radiation for hyperthyroidism...I could go on. With two beagles and two cats, Ocean State and their specialists are a blessing.

We had a wonderful experience at OSVS. Our 14yr old cat was not doing well and we had visited her Vet with little to no help in terms of what was going on. As our cat was not improving we took her to OSVS and Dr. Thomas was amazing. She helped give us a better picture of what was going on and our possible options. Unfortunately our cat did not do well and we make the humane decision to let her go. The way the staff handled the planning and administering of the euthansia was so thoughtful and caring. In such a bad time we had an amazing experience. If and when we get another pet we hope to sure use their services. Thank you all for helping us in this difficult time.

We had to take my 1yr old hound mix Carson to the emergency vet about a month ago because he got into some ibuprofen I left in by bag and accidentally left within his hound nose's reach. Their response time couldn't have been quicker with the charcoal and induced vomiting. They were diligent about calling me every day he was there (3 days total), checked his kidney numbers and updated me daily, and let us visit anytime we wanted, even letting us take him on walks out in the yard. We live over an hour away, so they were extremely helpful and accommodating. They referred to us as "Carson's mom" or "Carson's dad" on the phone, which reinforced that they knew how important he was to my husband and me. He was in good spirits every time we saw him and has been great every since we brought him home. Can't thank them enough for saving my puppy. I know the quick response in the very early hours saved my dog from certain kidney failure and death with the amount of ibuprofen he consumed and I have also learned a very valuable lesson.

I am compelled to write this critical review of our recent experience. It was the weekend so we couldn't see our regular vet. We feel the ocean state triage and admittance process is woefully inadequate, resulting in truly sick pets needing to wait many hours for treatment. My cat was clearly injured (in pain, could not walk). We were told 3 hr wait. It was actually 5 hrs before the vet first saw my cat, then another 3 hrs before he received an x-ray and were dismissed with pain meds. He was misdiagnosed. Our regular vet, who we saw 2 days later, found 2 deep puncture (bite) wounds. Our cat obviously needed a string dose of antibiotics, plus rabies booster. During the nearly 8 hrs I was waiting at ocean state, I saw many pets admitted with trivial non-emergencies, such as "looks fine but didn't drink much yesterday," "didnt poop on his walk". Admitting healthy animals is resulting in overstretched resources. I would not recommend going there, especially on weekends.

Staff at this facility were all very professional, organized and friendly. We were there to meet with Dr. Hunley after our husky had been diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma on his paw. Dr. Hunley spent a huge amount of time with us, presented us with several options for treatment, and he is a kind of pioneer insofar that he has adopted various treatments where he will insert chemotherapy at the site in order to avoid the systemic effects of giving it intravenously or by mouth with certain soft tissue sarcomas. He is really quite brilliant, and I would strongly recommend him if you find yourself in need of an oncologist for your pet.

Took my dog Happy at this hospital recently when his eye had ruptured from a corneal ulcer. I for sure thought I was gonna lose him because he got to a point where he did not want to eat, drink, and get up to move around for hours and was not responding to his name. He was in a lot of distress. I must say the staff here were very kind and compassionate. Even sent me a photo of my dog along with an update. The doctor was great too. She was very thorough when giving me details on my dog's condition. She and along everyone else took great care of my baby and he is doing a whole lot better and is right back to his usual self. I must also say prices are expensive but probably shouldn't be too surprised since it was an emergency visit. I felt like it was worth it regardless because of how awesome these people treated my dog. These people were life savers and I will use this hospital again in the future if I absolutely have to.

They saved my dog when she got really sick. Our regular vet wasn't equipped to handle the issue she was having, so they referred me to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. It was a long 2 days but they were able to get her on the mend and in the end she did just fine. We came really close to euthanizing her. The doctor said lets give her another day and see what happens. Glad we listened. Scary to think to how close we came to losing our dog! This is the place to go if your pet is having medical issues that your local vet can't handle.

Staff is very friendly, but completely filled with lip service. We brought our bird here in an emergency and it took 5 HOURS before anyone came and saw us. We spent 2 in the waiting room and then another 3 in the exam room. Quality service is great and all, but don't be the only 24hr urgent care in the state and have barely any staff on. Its unbelievable

They truly prey on people's love for their pets and take full advantage of their vulnerability. Friends of mine took their young dog with a broken back there.
They wanted to have him put down as he was in agony. They suggested an MRI just in case...they hoped for the best. later they had to put the dog down. Its just pure evil.

I cannot recommend Ocean State enough. After going to 3 vets else where for our cat Bob's walking issue we finally went to Ocean State. We 1st met Dr. Bushnell in emergency - the first to pick up on a possible neurological issue. She introduced us to the oncology specialist, the incredible Dr. Marini, who discovered a spinal tumor. Ultimately and recently Bob had succesful delicate surgery performed by Dr. Coronado with Dr. Marini by his side. A good percentage of the tumor was removed. We are happy to report Bob is walking again - many thanks to the incredible doctors, their staff and to all the competent and kind staff out front and in back. Sincerely, Bev, Mike and Bob Cristina

Ocean State Veterinary is a very sketchy organization, My Fiancee's dog died there, she was very sick, but was considerably healthier than she had been in previous months, she was a pug so naturally she struggled breathing, they put a breathing tube in, but she had been breathing enough to remain conscious minutes before, she was put into a medically induced coma, she was taken off the breathing tube to run tests, before this the Doctor was pushing Euthanasia, but we were skeptical, minutes into their "Tests" they told us our dog had died, when I called to ask them to perform an autopsy, they hung up.
I firmly believe our 1 year old Pug, Mocha was murdered, I would still be seeking justice were it not for the counsel of my Fiancee's mother.
Rest in Peace Mocha.

they sedated and killed my rabbit when I told them not to. never helped. he got worse just like all the bad reviews said would happen. I hope they get investigated for all these needless deaths. I feel like there is something sinister going on inside the minds of these "doctors." devastating families endlessly. there is no way a hospital is this incompetant.

This place is a wonderful place to bring small mammals. They did an excellent job taking care of the family gerbil when she was sick. The vet was both caring and realistic. The staff was wonderful as well. The prices were fine. I highly highly recommend this place, especially for small exotic rodents.
