July 24 2019 was a pretty hectic day in the surf, rip currents were appearing off and on, here and there, and at one point the water was cleared. The lifeguard ( Elaine?) on 5th st gave the gathered crowd instructions and safety lessons on rips. Very informative.
Later in the day she rescued a woman screaming, caught in the current being pulled offshore! Badass.Apparently there were numerous rescues on this day. Great work!

Craig on 18th Street is great. First year at the beach with all three of my kids . 4,6,9 and it can be hectic and nerve wrecking when they all wanna be in the water. But he does a great job. Even held a meeting Introducing himself, explained rip tides and told the kids to remember his name and Street in case they get separated from family! Thank you Craig for making our beach experience great and safe!

I've been going here for 5 years always thought they were phenomenal lifeguards. This year they seem to be slacking on enforcing the rules near 112st. People are blatantly drinking out in the ocean and being obnoxious. People have funnels on the beach chugging beer. I've came down multiple mornings cleaning up the beach Bc there are beer cans in the Sand. They don't enforce any rules. I have bad asthma and I'm surrounded by people smoking when they're supposed to be at the top. There's so many little kids around and people are smoking right next to them or are drunk. Overall I think they do a great job when people need help in the water. But they no longer enforce other rules and it really does have a negative effect on my vacation.

Great experience at 60th St lifeguard stand. Got caught in a feeder and I could barely get back into shore ; husband was definitely caught up in big waves and current pulling him out. Elijah the guard had already called for help and Issac went in the water and was so strong that he he pulled my husband in, even against the strong outgoing tide. Elijah is ever diligent! Thank you OC Guards

I just finished surfing in the designated North Ocean City Surfing area (Flying Cloud). I was the first "surfer" there at 10am. The 2 workers representing the surfer beach didn't need to clear the beach because no one else was in the water. I began to surf, but was called out just minutes later. The worker told me that I should be boogie boarding. I do not paddle into waves because both of my rotator cuffs are badly damaged so I just lean against them more like a boogie boarder would do. I told her that I didn't have a boogie board, but that I would try to surf more like the traditional way. After watching me struggle to paddle into waves for another ten minutes, she called me in, and said, "It doesn't seem fair for me to close off this beach just so you could float around out there." Interestingly, she wasn't telling me I had to stop "surfing" so much as she was seemingly humiliating me for my attempts at surfing. She was basically telling me that I wasn't good enough to have my own area cleared. I am not exaggerating when I say that I was taken aback by this. Ocean City's policy is to designate a surf area and clear it of swimmers when there are surfers who want to surf. Clearing people so I can surf is not something I requested, it is a city law. I am not sure if the worker is given a commission for renting boogie boards, or if she actually wanted to humiliate me, but I felt humiliated nonetheless. I asked her if she'd like for me to wait until other surfers came so that I wouldn't be occupying the beach (1 of only 2 surfing beaches in OCMD) She said that would be good. About a half hour later, 2 children came to the beach to surf. I knew if I went to surf again, she wouldn't embarrass me into leaving, and I went on to make the best of a very depressing start of the day. I have only recently started surfing, and in my 32 years of coming to OCMD with my family, I have never felt so embarrassed or diminished by someone representing the city. Many of the beach workers are very young, and I advise that the city instruct them on how to consider how their words/actions would appear in a court of law. Today I feel I was asked to stop surfing because I wasn't good enough to surf, and it hurt me very much. I am not a senior citizen, and I do not look like a typical beginner surfer, even though I am. I don't know why this worker felt it was okay to embarrass me like this.

We were on the beach yesterday (between 24&26 street.. there were a lot of rip currents yesterday and we were fortunate to have Christian G as our life guard that day .. Christian has a very busy day helping people in distress and he was being proactive flagging people about rip currents (he even called everyone in so he could tell them about the rip currents) Christian saved my husband s life !! No words can express my gratitude because if it weren t for Christian and the beach patrol my husband would not be with me today. When there are no life Guards on duty stay out I the water .. if my husband would have been swimming without a life guard he would not be here .. thanks again Christian .. you are a god sent and true asset to the beach patrol unit ..
