Great pizza, great price and great location. We went with a party of 4 and the food was fast and super delicious.
Very kid friendly (we have three smalls) and great menu. Only tried for pastries and coffee and they were delicious, quick and the staff really friendly. Also beautifully appointed restaurant. Excited to try for dinner! This area needed some Italian :)
Great atmosphere and the food was incredible. Best mushroom risotto ive ever had.
Loved every bite of the lasagne...excellent service..
Upscale environment. Friendly waitstaff. Food was good. Easily seen from street. Lunch was not served until 12p, should open it up starting at 11a. Eggs Benedict was delicious.
We love love love the food and service at Oak and Olive. They have amazing specialty dishes certain days of the week. In fact, we sincerely miss the beef short ribs served over polenta. It was 5 worthy. My husband said it was the best short ribs he's ever had (and that's saying a lot). Definitely give Oak and Olive a try. Such a great neighborhood spot.
Food was great but the room was chilly and the pasta dishes were served on cold plates so they cooled off very quickly. Otherwise it would be 5 stars.
SOOOO GOOD!
We had a catered lunch from Oak & Olive today and I am so impressed with what they did with the pepperoni pizza, that I had to get right on Google to leave a review! The flavors were something to write home about. I have NEVER had such a good piece of pizza in my life. So good. Thank you guys SO MUCH! A good meal can be energizing, and I really needed that good energy today! I will definitely be keeping you all in mind from now on!
I have friends who live nearby so we meet here sometimes on Saturday because it isn t crowded. There is a reason you can always get a table. Food poisoning from the Caesar Salad one time. A server told my friend who is a regular here, she couldn t use her own teabags, and just yesterday I had coffee served with a sugar substitute as sweetener because they were out of sugar. Told she would ask the kitchen to share its sugar, I waited to add sweetener and didn t drink the coffee with my meal. She brings the sugar after the meal and I am charged for the coffee. Also, I ordered 2 eggs and toast. I wasn t ordering the kids meal which is $5. My meal was the same, but as an adult, it was $8. There are so many great choices to eat. This is not one of them.
For $15 on postmates you get a tablespoon of mediocre lasagne. For $10, you get a teaspoon of stew. This keeps happening on postmates and we're going to have to start calling ahead or skip it altogether.
Service was great and the drink & food selection was nice but both our meals seemed overly doused in olive oil. Would give them a second chance.
Small menu, but the food is amazing. Service is prompt and friendly.
Food was excellent and the house wine was good. Atmosphere is family oriented and a little noisy.
I've been 5+ times here so I can speak with experience - this is an underappreciate gem. Excellent salads, pastas, desserts, they do everything well
The food and customer service are very good. Plus, they have bicycle parking and are located by many TriMet bus lines and by the SWTrails routes.
Food and service was excellent.
A few items on the dinner and dessert menu they were out of on a early Saturday evening was the only disappointment, and of course it was something we wanted.
Caesar salad was great I thought the toppings on the pizza were skimpy not enough for the price
I LOVE their pizza. The signature "olive" pizza is always good. They're still working out the staffing but I can say it's much improved since they first opened in early May. They give generous pours and we hardly wait in line anymore.
The only thing they have left to improve is lifting the large solid black pendant lights that blocks their only menu.
It's gonna be PIZZA GOLD for years to come people! Take advantage.
Very inviting, lovely calm atmosphere with excellent food
Nice spot. Great server. Food marginal. Kale beet salad good. Gnocchi very salty and garlicy. Prob won't be back.
We have been here a few times, and they are working out their jitters quite nicely. Still ordering at the counter and then waiting to be seated. At times it does feel like an event to find a table. It is nice to have a place in the area that is nicer and popular with locals. The pizza is very good.
It was a casual atmosphere with an open kitchen. Very clean, professional kitchen and waite staff. Owner was present and was pleasant and involved with providing a great place to eat. The antipasto was excellent and we ordered a pizza and a pasta dish. Both were good and authentic. Good casual dining with a good Italian house wine. Overall we enjoyed the food and dining experience.
We have eaten here a lot over the past couple of years--They're food is delicious. But lately I have been treating our family to their Pizzas (true Italian pizza!) and Lasagna--(I've never had better)-
This food is a godsend right now- thank you Maria!
Friendly staff, fresh tasting food, and nice environment. You might miss the restaurant if you don't pay attention, but it is a good choice for a nice and affordable dinner. Kids absolutely loved the pizza.
I had their Oak & Olive salad! I don't believe there was any dressing, but that didn't matter because the risotto cheese more than made up for it! The plating was beautiful too! Oh, and I had a cup of the lamb stew!! Phenomenal!!
Delicious and there was very personal service and genuine concern that all was well from the staff
My first time at the Oak & Olive and it was quite good. My friend and I shared the delicious steelhead mouse and the papardelle with pork belly ragout. The house white and red wines were also very good as was the service. I definitely look forward to going back.
Fantastic selection of fresh food, trying their pizza is a must!
My first visit... I'll be back. I suppose not everyone knows what an afagato is... I wasn't prepared to have my waiter question my knowledge so vehemently. The lasagna was a little pricey. However both my lasagna and their lemon and lavender gelato were delicious. Ambience was ok and could have been improved with more greenery to create seperation between the patio and parking lot.
One of those simple Italian restaurants that does a few things and does them very well. Elegant simplicity.
Beautiful dining room and kitchen. Always have great options, seasonal rotating menu, and delectable desserts
A family-friendly modern Italian cuisine restaurant in the heart of Hillsdale. Fresh salads, excellent pizzas, and outstanding desserts are served. Try the chocolate flourless cake.
Very good food, reasonably priced, friendly waiters, easy parking, and not overly noisy.
Pasta was undercooked and doughy, and we were rushed out by the server.
Wonderful atmosphere and servers. Great food. Reasonably priced. Not a huge selection. I got garlic pizza which was amazing! The beer and wine selection was a little small but were of great quality.
The only reason for 4 stars is because it was pretty small. I was expecting a larger building, with like a separate bar area, but it was just one open room. So it wasn't as cozy or intimate of a setting as I was expecting.
The Roasted Garlic pizza was outstanding. Fantastic service and great food. So good to have a friendly and delicious Italian spot in Hillsdale.
Where do I start, last night we went in for a good bite to eat. This place has no clue what a good or decent customer service is. My last three visits :
Waitress spilled Olive oil all over me and never helped or apologized.
Waitress byherself serving the entire place! It took over 2 hrs to get food.
WE tried it out again last night every single dish we ordered was wrong. The waitress kept messing up the orders and yet still charge us for their mess up!!. Oh we are out of Lamb, Feta , vegetables, black olives, olives, green beans, the list goes on... 'Ooh sorry we are out of this and that.. Fruit flies however will keep you busy.
It's not about the money but seriously I gave this place a few tries. It used to be good..
If you are trying to go out and enjoy your food, this isn't the place for that. A whole star is too much.
*I have been sick and bad stomach bug from the last meal I had* I just saw another review and had similar results as well.
I enjoy the food but I haven't found any items I can't live without. Not the first place I think of, but it's decent.
Fabulous food, fresh and authentic.
Wait staff very attentive, Charlie was great!
Wonderful neighborhood ristorante!
Loved the lamb stew and mushroom pizza add prosciutto.
Can't wait to try the risotto and ravioli
Spur of the moment choice made after a very long workweek. The carbonara pasta was one of the best pasta dishes i have ever experienced, recommended by my gracious waiter. I will be back
Service was good. Food was delicious. Portions were a little on the small side. I got a gnocci dish, which was perfect for me but would have been too little for my husband. Surprisingly empty on a Friday night.
We decided that it would be nice to try something new on our anniversary tonight. But the food is over priced and the service we got was terrible. We took some of our pizza home and it was just tossed into a box, some of the pieces were folded and the toppings slid off. They also like to decide what their service is worth by adding their on tip to the bill, we honestly would have tipped more even given the terrible service but that decision was made for us. Maybe that is why the service stinks, or maybe they are only kind to the people they know. The food is decent, but I am not going to recommend them based solely on the awful experience with the other staff.
Beautiful new restaurant with super-pleasant staff. Everything I've tasted in my first two visits was delicious - hot, crisp, textures, tastes. Atmosphere with high ceilings and enormous windows and welcoming outdoor space, and some tasty menu items (salads, olives, cheeses) makes Oak & Olive a highlight of the Hillsdale experience, and makes SW Portland a richer place to live -- and eat!
Been here twice and it s always been delicious! Good service and a hidden gem. Must try!
ordered the brussel sprouts for $8.00 and got less than 10 brussel sprouts in the dish. Extremely over priced for what they produce.
Pricy and sometimes a wait, but good food, and great, relaxed atmosphere.
Food was a bit bland service was very poor gone downhill over the last year or so
Everything on the menu is delicious and the staff is kind and attentive. I once called 20 minutes before closing to see if they'd allow a takeout order and they were happy to accommodate - most other places would have shut the kitchen down by then and declined. The space is modern yet cozy. Great for a relaxing glass of wine or a longer dinner. I've been there with just my husband as well as larger parties (12) and the service and space was perfect for both. Its quickly become my favorite hillsdale restaurant!
I got a take out snack due to pregnancy out of nowhere needing to eat lol. Loved the fresh salad and bread tho! ((also had a lemon shortbread cookie while waiting)) :P. Great atmosphere, very friendly service. I'll definitely be going again
Perfectly composed recipe, but not willing to improvise.
We ordered out and were really happy with the food, especially the Cavatelli. We ll definitely be ordering from Oak & Olive again.
We've been here a couple times. And while the restaurant is known for their pizza, we have yet to try it, opting for their pasta instead.
Both times, we've had the Oak and Olive salad which is outstanding. The fresh ricotta and herb vinaigrette make the salad. The focaccia and house made soup have been really good both times as well.
On our first visit, we had the Cacio E Pepe pasta which we both enjoyed. Simple but flavorful and well executed.
On the second visit, we tried the dungeness crab risotto. While it looks beautiful, we were disappointed. The combination of flavors just didn't work for either of us. The corn was too sweet, and the arugula was too bitter, and both overpowered the sweet taste of the dungeness crab to the point you could barely taste the crab.
Despite the risotto, we do enjoy this restaurant and look forward to a third visit to try their pizza.
Hit and miss across the board at this Italian inspired restaurant in Hillsdale. We came in on a Saturday night with a party of four and we were sat in the corner at the far end by the back parking lot. The restaurant was half full but as a previous recent review stated, large parties with children easily overwhelm this space; concrete floors, open walls, and tall ceilings make it too easy to be very loud.
We brought our own wine (corkage fee is $15 - not listed on website) and ordered house made focaccia as a starter. The bread came quickly with a deep dish full of olive oil with balsamic at the bottom. It was almost impossible to get the balsamic through the inch-plus of oil in the tall cup. The bread was brought out with no plates so we were left to use our napkins for 5 minutes before our server noticed.
We ordered 4 entrees and soup and salad to share for the table. While waiting we noticed how heavily the restaurant uses their to-go at the counter because people kept coming in and out which made the entire room cold each time. We also sat next to a bussing station with water and silverware so the servers stood by our table every couple of minutes. Seems like this is a much better location in the summer to say the least.
The lamb stew was good and had fresh flavors of parsley and tomatoes, and the beet salad was a great choice for a starter to share with four people. Out of the four entrees, the gnocchi was by far the best. The lasagna lacked flavor and was covered in a red sauce that was cooked separately. The cacio y pepe was underwhelming especially for the price.
With all of the details the entire table agreed the food is good but overall the experience was just OK and maybe not worth the price.
