Excellent show the had showing The haunting of Lin-Manuel Miranda the play is until June 16th you must see it very educational I would go again.

First time at a poetry slam it was really great only thing is that I wish they was more seating.

I've been here a couple times and I always enjoy myself. The people who come here are genuinely interested in the acts that that are going up. Whether it is slam poetry, spoken word, a band, rapper or singer.

It's a cultural place that tries to promote unity and comfort within the audience,which I think is fabulous.

They have beer and wine, but most people are just here to enjoy the show, so refreshing!

Anybody can enjoy this place and get soemthing out of it. They even offer open mic nights where members of the audience can get up and show off.

This place gets crowded fast, so I reccomend buying VIP tickets or getting on line early!

Last week on December 14, 2014 i was suppose to DJ for the hip hop open mic / showcase the unprofessional sound man engineer knock my laptop off of my stand and the screen went blank i turn it back on and my usb drive was completely damage and nuyorican refuse to pay the damage laptop and right now I found my attorney and she is willing to take the case i'm suing the sound man and Nuyorican for my damage laptop plus the payment $100.00 for bring me out there for nothing for refuse to settle this matter I will see you in court.

It's a nice established and friendly staff. I LOVE THE YOUNG COMEDIANS AND THEUR PERFORMANCES! I LOVE TO LAUGH AND I ENJOYED THE SHOW! SMOOCHES

Great venue! They don't serve food though,so eat before you enter.

Got here early, waited an hour in the cold, no seats, 95 degree upstairs, standing room only, uncomfortable as hell... try harder Nuyorican!!!

Honestly, I went their for my friend's dad. He was going to his dad's performance. I liked the show. It's unfortunate the place is so small. I didn't see the bartender when I just came in. The bouncer gave me a cup of water and later gave me and my friend a corona. Aside from that, I thought it was fine. I'm sure the bartender had a situation.

I've only been here once but it was a nice. A decently small spot (lol) with chill vibes and good poetry

Great, infamous open mic spot. Real mixed chill vibe with lots of positive energy. The female host is sooo funny

Exceptional place for local music and a tight knit community.

One of nyc's lovely gems :) Ambiance is very chill and open to all, check it out for some of new yorks undiscovered talent.

This place is the spot hand down in all of NYC. Even if you're here for a night, you must come to Nuyorican Poets Cafe. They play the best music and everyone is super chill here.

This is a very nice performing arts space that hosts quality off Broadway shows, poetry and home of ROME'S famous Banana Pudding Jazz series.

This is an amazing NYC experience. Friday night poetry slam is not to be missed. Smart, funny, serious, energetic and entertaining.

The Latin jazz was magnificent! Great atmosphere. I'll definitely recommend this.

Certainly NOT what it used to be in the 70s, what a let down.

Loved it for their Monday sessions n open mic nights.

The venue is okay; I went there for the open mic night and the musical audio quality was pretty terrible (exaggerated by the fact that most of the acts were rap songs with heavy beats). The performances themselves were also pretty bad, but I m not taking that as a mark against the venue. It would likely be better on nights specified for actual poetry!

The poetry was amazing, and i had the opportunity to be apart of judging the poets. They have a bar, that i did not get to try because it was soo crowded. Which is why im knocking out a star but overall the vibes were awesome. Very welcoming, and an attention grabber.

Great place to hear live jazz and Musica Latina in a intimate setting. Lots of bang for the buck!

This Life produced Fantastic poets n comedians. Surprise performance by a Maryland vocalist, beautiful singing n atmosphere

A complete gem in Manhattan. I love it when I can get a friend to join me over here. Places like this have to be supported by active people!

This place really is all the good and historical feel that we all hear about. I had a great time!!

Bought a $25 dollar bottle of wine last night to share amongst the 4 of my friends & never kept a tab. closed out the bill. a 12% content so we were all very sober. Woke up to a lovely EXTRA $34 charge for no reason & no answers from staff. Deff not like back in day & deff not acceptable.

This place is great to meet creative people as well as enjoy many forms of art.

A great place to experience spoken word in NYC. THe Nuyorican also has shows open mic Mondays and a great bar. I think you can bring in your own food if Im not mistaken, Get there early if you want to get a seat. There is also a balcony to check out the show from above. Just dont be a pretentious jerk when you get there it's poetry enjoy it.

Nuyorican is an amazing place! The poetry is raw and very real. That is what Nuyorican is known for. HOWEVER! Due to changes in the neighborhood the crowd has definitely changed and the rawness has been watered down. The privilege some people carry is shown on the stage. Newbies to this place wouldn't be able to tell the difference but as someone who grew up in NY and has been to Nuyorican many many times, it's heartbreaking. I'll occasionally go hoping to see that one poet who will make it all worth it. The place is small so it gets packed (2 floors), you'll see the lines outside. The music is always on point and they also have a bar.

Intimate venue perfect for being brave on an open mic

I go here every time that I fisit NYC. Amazing and worth it everytime.

Went on a Wednesday night and had pretty low expectations to be honest. But the host and poets who took the stage (via lottery selection) were amazing. Taking off 1 star just because the drink selection is so small (a couple of wine and beer choices) and the chair spaces are extremely tight (and personal space is such a big deal to me) but if you're not a drinker and you're down with rush hour-subway style seating you'll likely love the place.

This was my 1st time attending a Spoken Word. Idk why I thought it would be like the movie Love Jones. I felt like it was more of a Rappers "Freestyle Friday" but on a Monday. And they loved the mic, ... yes we get ur on Instagram. I stayed less than an hour. I didnt hear much poetry just loud music & rappers. There was a female I really liked named Joi something. And I would like to return to recite my own Poetry tho. I did enjoy the different performances and understand that lyricism comes in all forms, it just wasnt quite what I had in mind. Place is very small. To be expected. This is NY. Very limited seating. I was told ppl line up early & sign up to perform there. Only 25 can sign up. 4min time slot. $8 to enter.

I do a lot of traveling between the US and SA and I have to tell you everytime I'm in NYC I visit this place. Poetry, wine & beer bit of hip hop, raggae, pop and dancing. So much going on it just makes for a wounder filled night. Love it!

I went with a group of friends, to see a friend performing on a Wednesday night. These places have live people that perform poetry.

They was a 8 dollars cover... but is worth it, over here you see so much talent that people from NY have, this is my first time going to a poetry club, so i did not know what to expect.

So they were almost 15 people performing, each participant had time to recite a poem; they were 3 judges that were scoring, each participant.

I think all people that did a poem, did a great job, but they only can choose the top 5 to pass to the next round. After this each winner that pass to the next round, had to do a new poem and the judge give then new score, then the winner, was the one that had more points from both rounds.

The winner won 10 US dollars and an opportunity to go to Friday match where the best of all perform will do new poem and then go to the national.

They sell all kind of alcohol in this cafe too.

Made us laugh and cry. Wonderful artist doing wonderful things.

The host was great! So the poets were fun to watch and listen to. The vibes was so welcoming, can't wait to go back in another visit to New York

Wonderful, great staff, Rome Neal's banana pudding is the Best. The Film of the career of Mr Woodie King Jr brought back such great memories, can't wait to purchase the DVD

Attended a music show for local artists. The space was intimate. Sound system was good. There was a small bar the wild moderately priced refreshments. Had an overall nice experience.

Great friendly staff, nice atmosphere for spoken word. Couldn't ask for anything else!

My first time here but not my last. I expected to hear poetry but I did not expect to be at one of the greatest parties ever, listening to hip hop, raggae and pop music and dancing with total strangers as if we were good friends, laughing and singing tunes from TV shows from the 80's and 90's and laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. The spoken word and poetry was so good you wanted to hear it twice. This place is DOPE... can't wait til next Friday already.

Wonderful show and people. 4 out 5 stars for location and the uncomfortable chairs we sat in.

A very cool place to go watch cool performances. I enjoy the atmosphere every time I'm here. The staff are dope and they serve the perfect drinks for a chill night. If you're looking for a place to meet down to earth people, experience new things, or watch upcoming/aspiring artists perform and express themselves this is the place to go. Love it here.
