Nightline Association: Providing Confidential Support Services for Students
Nightline Association is a non-profit organization that provides confidential support services to students across the United Kingdom. The organization was founded in 1970 by students at the University of Essex who recognized the need for a safe and confidential space where students could talk about their problems without fear of judgment or reprisal.
Today, Nightline Association operates over 40 Nightlines across the UK, providing support to thousands of students every year. These Nightlines are staffed by trained student volunteers who provide a listening ear and emotional support to their peers.
What sets Nightlines apart from other support services is their commitment to confidentiality. All calls and messages are anonymous, meaning that callers can speak freely without fear of being identified or judged. Additionally, Nightlines are non-directive and non-advisory, meaning that volunteers do not offer advice or tell callers what to do. Instead, they listen attentively and help callers explore their feelings and options in a safe and supportive environment.
Nightline volunteers undergo extensive training before they begin taking calls or messages. This training covers topics such as active listening skills, suicide prevention techniques, mental health awareness, diversity and inclusion issues, sexual violence prevention strategies, drug abuse prevention strategies among others.
The organization also provides ongoing training opportunities for its volunteers so that they can continue to develop their skills throughout their time with Nightline Association.
In addition to providing direct support services through its network of Nightlines across the UK., Nightline Association also works closely with universities and other organizations to promote mental health awareness on campus. The organization offers workshops on topics such as stress management techniques , self-care practices , healthy relationships among others . They also work with universities on campaigns aimed at reducing stigma around mental health issues .

Its commitment towards confidentiality , anonymity ,non-judgmental approach has made it a trusted and reliable source of support for students in need.
