Wonderful venue for a film, especially when you are there with the most beautiful girl in the whole wide room.
Love this place! Indie film with fun introductions from staff/volunteers, craft beer, and unbuttered popcorn with nutritional yeast. And beautiful expanded location on Main Street.
Love this place! Beautiful intimate theaters with great staff and a beer with your show... All-around winner!
A favorite spot to catch indie movies. Decent selection of beer available.
I love the Nick is what I hear all the time. I m a sponsor and board member, and proudly share my time and money with them because I believe in their mission, adore their staff, and think that they are a vital business in the heart of downtown. They have great selection of movies, ranging from the weekly additions and also their special screenings. I enjoy when they not only screen a movie, but when they have someone speak about it later. They ve even had film directors contribute. Indie Grits has become one of the top festivals in the southeast and is a blast from start to finish. Encourage people to support the Nick and become a member if possible.
Great small (2 show rooms) local movie theater! Wine, beer, popcorn... Yearly memberships with great benefits. Street parking. Love to come here!
great selection of movies, super staff service, indie atmosphere, best in town
Best movie house in Columbia! Clean. Friendly. Great concessions, including beer and wine.
Very nice venue for our independent theater! We enjoy going there to see movies that are not mainstream.
One of the best things in Columbia. Crowd is hip, beer is cold and the films are amazing.
The Nick is one of Columbia's crown jewels. A small movie theatre showing various smaller/indie films as well as hosting an array of curated material. One of the curated sets that's out in 2016 is called "First Friday Lowbrow Cinema Explosion", in which on the first Friday of the month they show super-tacky films such as the Vanilla Ice classic "Cool As Ice". Just a fun and quirky place to catch some great films. As far as refreshments they have very reasonably priced popcorn/beer/wine, which makes for a great beginning or ending to a date night. The Nick also offers a membership program, which you'd be silly not to get if you find yourself coming back for entertainment. They also host the Indie Grits Film Festival, which just celebrated it's 10th year. This was the first year I've gone, and it was great fun. From films to events, it was a great time, would definitely recommend checking out the lineup when it's going on, and checking out some of the events they host during it.
If you live in Columbia or are just visiting, do not miss catching a movie at the Nick. Architecturally it is a really cool place to see both first run and independent films. If you live in Columbia, join as a member and get discounted ticket prices and rewards!
What's there not to love about the Nick? It's like a Hollywood Starlet: it's heyday was way-back-when, then a period of neglect followed, but spurred on by support from the community and popular demand, it's been going thru a Renaissance, which has been coaxing other businesses along Main to do the same. Meanwhile, the employees stay cool and classy and the selection of flicks is solid.
My favorite little theater! Much respect to the curators for bringing so much great art to Columbia's film lovers.
Beautiful interior, great concession stand with some proper snacks and refreshments including craft beer, and staff that's passionate about cinema.
Well kept. Great nostalgic experience. You can tell a lot of care is put into that place.
Located on Main Street, it has kept care of this beautiful vintage building. Been coming for years to this theatre. Very affordable prices all across the board.
I just love this little local hang out. My husband and I make this a regular date night. The staff is so friendly and caring, they make a movie night unlike any other! The nick always has interesting shows and seasonal events and they definately have the best popcorn in town!!!
I havnt been to nickelodeon yet but I really want to act there and I want to know were is Nickelodeon acting stage is
This was our first trip to the Nickelodeon and we were very pleased. Good seats, nice refreshments that are reasonbly priced. Very good experience overall.
Wide selection of movies, good membership deal, and GREAT popcorn.
Lots of films that showcase diversity and great movies that show the true art of making movies. Such a delightful staff and beyond perfect customer service!
Nice theater. The movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, has to be the worst movie ever made but the theater was nice.
if i could see every movie here I would! Cannot beat the atmosphere, the membership, and the popcorn
Always good. Mary Queen of Scots well done. Acting, cinematography beautiful.
We love the Nick. We have been members for a few years now and a trip to the Nick is always a favorite date night. They show great new movies that you wouldn't see in the big theaters; have special events with local filmmakers; and do great educational series with speakers from USC. The popcorn is always tasty and they have a nice little beer and wine selection too. The matinee price is great too.
A fantastic art house theater with 2 screens, and a wide variety of movies shown.
We are members and love the movies. This is the best place in town to see a movie
Great movie art house that is a jewel of Columbia. Aside from viewing exercises that make you think, there is wine and beer with popcorn that's not greasy for your adult pleasure. Love it!
There are 2 things I've learned about Nickelodeon's weekday matinees, and I'm compelled to share them here. First, these matinees are overwhelmingly popular with senior citizens, and they all love to chit-chatter and talk back at the screen. A lot! Many restlessly fidget and rattle their popcorn bags, and there are often wheezing and coughing fits. (Honestly, it all gets pretty out of control, and the only way to address all of it is to stop the film and scold the entire audience. That ain't gonna happen, so...what can you do?) Second, weekday matinees can be their MOST expensive ticket, because you have to pay an extra $2 - $3 for 2 hours (or more?) at the parking meters downtown. This often drives the total cost to nearly $11 (for non-members), which often makes Nickelodeon's weekday matinees the priciest ticket in town. (Please, I really do like The Nick. I will keep going, and I urge you to go, too. These are just things I want you to keep in mind before you go on a weekday afternoon, and that you won't find mentioned in other reviews here.)
My favorite movie theater. They have great indie films, and their concessions are reasonably priced. It's non profit, and they serve alcohol. Always looking forward to their next event.
Was my second visit. It was great. We took students for a field trip, and the staff were sensational! It's such a quaint venue.
The Nickelodeon has movies i want to see which are often more reflective than the popular action movies I would not go to.
Please notice that Amazon Smile will donate to the Nick...just put Columbia Film Society in the charity line.
Love this place and the art they make accessible to the community. Love all the cultural events like tAlk back sessions with Simple Justice/BLM and Indie Grits fest there as well. Good beers at good prices too!
Great place for a movie. Much more fun than the chains.
My favorite place to watch a movie by myself. Best popcorn, always a great movies to watch, craft beer. Even if you haven't heard of the movies, just pick one. You won't be disappointed.
The Nick is one of the best parts of Columbia. Grateful to see a community that cares as much about the art of filmmaking as the staff and members of this theater do. Please support this place!
Love the mission of the Nick. Plus beer in a theater rocks
This theater is a part of history. Excellent condition, very cool independent films from local artists +
Get your indie films here, or just for a non-corporate theatre experience. Unique experiences like the indie grits festival or the monthly low-brow midnight movies
I go to the Nickelodeon very often. They always show the best movies and they have the best popcorn in South Carolina.
The Nickelodeon is a classic Columbia establishment offering indie films and tasty treats. There are two screening rooms with the upstairs being the most newly renovated. The theater was built in an old downtown theater which gives going an old school vibe that can't be replicated. Beer, wine, popcorn, fancy chocolates are some of what you'll find for concessions. Prices are reasonable and membership is worth the value if you attend frequently.
Great Art House theater, the only one in SC. They get all sorts of indie films. They let you bring in I've cream from Sweet Cream which is a few store fronts up Main. Easy parking either on the street or in one of the Taylor Street garages. If you want a drink with your movie, they serve beer and wine, plus popcorn, candy, and baked goods. Get your tickets early as the theater is popular and may sell out. Always a good time.
Love Love Love this place! Great variety of films, super staff, popcorn and drinks are the bomb, have some wine or beer and enjoy!
It was nice inside, the lady in the box office was really nice. I did an instacart order for them.
A fantastic local theater that shows an array of film genres - Oscar-nominated, foreign, artsy, indie, documentaries, LGBQT, dance, low-brow, etc. The entire staff is amazingly knowledgeable about film and so friendly. Refreshments include beer and wine in addition to your regular movie theater options. Oh, and they have the best popcorn (free on Wednesdays for members)!
The only theatre in Columbia that gets my business. A treasure!
I love this local gem. It is an excellent place to catch a show downtown.
Great selection of indie and movies with substance!
Great movies and outstanding events that add culture to the city.
My go to theater in Columbia. Only two screens, but they pick their movies really well. Hosts loads of special events and has great food and drink options.
Staff is super friendly and the crowd they draw is wonderful. Never had a phone interupt a screening, never had much chatter.
Absolutely recommend seeing a film here, even if you don't know what you're going to see. You won't be disappointed with what they're showing.
Hate going downtown, but love to go to the Nickelodeon.love the friendly atmosphere, and more intimate experience.
I love the Nick! Shhhh...don't tell everyone. It's nice to watch a movie in a clean theater, enjoying wine with your popcorn.
Wonderful place to see movies and to take your out-of-town guest.
Great movies and great atmosphere. If you want to see art movies this is the place to go
I have never gone because I'm a Nigerian but my son is going to like it because he wants to become a nickelodeon movie actor and he is handsome dark in complexion and he is just ten years old
in Nigeria kaduna Romi.
One of my fav places in Columbia! Enjoy the best movies in a cool atmosphere with a glass of wine! Staff is great. Get the membership to enjoy discounts and support the theatre. I Stan the Nick!
Always super nice employees. Can see hard to find and unusual movies here. Always enjoy ourselves when we visit.
Love going to movies at The Nick....always a good experience....
Great documentary on the Carolina Chocolate Drops! Thank you for bringing it to us.
Great comfortable atmosphere. Easy going and helpful staff. Small interesting beer selection that changes regularly. You can feel right at home in the cinema with fifty other people hanging out.
Not for profit theater with quaint atmosphere and good inexpensive concessions including adult beverages.
Unique, reasonably priced, great for a date night , family excursion, quick getaway.
Welcome to the Nickelodeon theater
