Most useless police department i ever encountered....

Most useless police department i ever encountered. They were really rude. Called them about accident when a drunk driver hit my car. They said they couldn't come to scene because they do police reports over phone not in person. I called them back and go a different person. That person said we don't do reports over the phone and then they said they will send a cop car to scene. Cops came to scene didn't ticket or arrest the guy. Gave us his information card but didn't policy number for insurance and that person was uninsured with suspended driver. I am not making this up these police officers just seem like they wanted to go to popeyes than do anything with the accident. Just call their number and see how ghetto that place is. It is shame when police is just as worse as the thugs we have on these streets. Citizens of Newport News deserve better than this.

I called NN Police because my car was damaged as the result of an accident and the other driver left the scene. The dispatcher that answered acted like I was bothering him and rattled off a number I should call, but the POLICE couldn't assist me. I guess in NN you gotta be shot, stabbed or dead on the street for the Police to assist.

You only get one star because NO stars isn't a rating. USELESS!

Not helpful at all, was involved in a collision and told me they couldn't do anything about it. Very rude and felt like I was a bother to them. Would have been zero stars if that was an option!!!!!!

Used multiple times when I had a home invasion, home burglary, home invsasion/theft/ death threats, narcotics in my rentals, and to remove violent/drunk contractors. I feel more comfortable living in Newport News than York county. All officers I have interacted with very professional, courteous, and respectful and fair to both parties.

The officers at Newport News Police Dept are prime examples of why the distrust between underserved communities and law enforcement continues in 2019. They will cross four lanes of traffic to pull you over for any "perceived" violation. However, good luck trying to receive help with any actual crime occuring. The officers are poorly trained and the culture of disrespecting citizens has gone on too long. People in the community don't see this department as assets but are TERRIFIED of losing their freedom or life over the smallest misinderstanding. Something has to be done about the poor conduct and lack of training and something will be done. Avoid these people at all cost and record every interaction.

This is video of Lt Dunbar and his anonymous crony Jenkins coming all the way across 6 lanes of Jefferson Avenue to tell me I am being warned not to maliciously press the crosswalk button in turn violating Virginia TRAFFIC CODE by impeding traffic. Officers should be held accountable and reprimanded for not stating there name and badge number when asked. As well as making laws up and mentally harassing the public.
