I had a interview, I got the position, I received the offer letter with a start date and how much I would be making. I did all my paperwork including my direct deposit. The last step was the physical test and drug test! I did the physical test and because I was shaking while holding 30llbs over my head for 30 seconds they resigned my offer letter and told me I had to wait 6 months The recruiter should have been able to look at me and see that I m a small girl! They wasted my time! The Physical test and drug should be the first things done in my opinion! I quit my previous job I was told by the recruiter the physical test was not hard and I would do just fine!

Great place to work, I came to work for the NNS when I got out of the Navy. I have been here for 38 years. I would do it again. When reading some of the other reviews you must take into consideration that NNS employs over 25000 employees and is hiring.

Very Nice custom ship I had them build me, it was a little larger than an aircraft carrier but it wasn't quite efficient at burning the uranium. Next time, I will request a plutonium powered ship in hopes of defeating the North Koreans!

Newport News Shipbuilding was founded in 1886. In total, the company built 260 military and 540 civilian vessels. Most of the US major aircraft carriers were built by Newport News Shipbuilding including the CVA-58 Forrestal, the first super-heavy aircraft carrier of the US Navy. Also, this company built the first nuclear aircraft carrier CVN-65 Enterprise. Thanks to the specialization of this company in the construction of aircraft carriers, it was possible to save $ 10 billion.

Human Resources is a joke, very disrespectful of potential employees and does not respect the fact that people need to EAT. Why does it take a cleared person 2 months to get a start date. They don't return calls, and they lie when they do. I'm just surprised the Supervisors are not following up on what the Recruiters are or ARE NOT doing.
How pathetic for such an honorable institution.

This is a great place to work and they offer the best pay you ll get from anywhere in this area. NNS offers great on the job training for all experience levels. The only downside is the parking. If you start your shift at 7:00AM you ll need to be in the parking lot by 5:00AM or you risk not having a place to park or having to pay a steep price for parking.

AH YES! The BIG Ole' Machine! Need I say more? Big, money-driven, tight-deadlines, micromanaging to a "T", limited/non-existant parking for employees, union-heavy, heavily structured. Would NOT recommend for a fresh college grad and anyone without a military background.

Mr. David Greenwell continuously harasses military personnel especially the Marines aboard Newport News shipyard. He always has a bad attitude and out to get someone in trouble. He needs to be stopped!

Heartless place of employment. My child may be coming down with the Flu but won t call out because The shipyard doesn t care, people have had hospital notes and were still fired is what I was told by my child. If a doctor s note is provided and the documentation to prove illness WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? It s not right!! Good benefits, decent pay but HEARTLESS!

Worst place ever to work, and l know after 20 years experience before working there. Terrible office conditions for IT and in general, managers are absented minded and poor planners/leaders, and the place is cold, dirty and has mice ! ! !
