The worst experience I've ever had. During immigration control, there was a long front and only one worker. Due to the fact that we waited there for 2 hours, we had miss our flight. Bad experience

Arrogant, rude and act as if they are above the law. The worst experience in over 10 years of flying. The overweight 20y\o TSA kid flagged me for secondary screening for no reason. Asked me stupid questions that i could not answer and then said that the questions are not loafed and i should answer withoit thinking.. Really? They asked me why I had expensive camera equipment.. How should I answer that? They they asked me why i dont have a nirmal W-2 job.. They also would not let my non-english speaking passenger to wait for me anywhere in the airport while I was being harassed. He told me that here, 'They make the rules'. I simply asked for them to let my passenger to wait or to allow me to speak with to them and give them directions. The answer was no. They also flagged me for my connecting flight and had me get secondary screening again with full pat with no reasoning even after already going through the 1st check point. By the way, I'm an average tall, while, male dressed in business attire.. Clean cut, in my early 30s.

It's not a great airport, it's old, needs updating for easier navigation, even the signage around the airport needs to be updated. I did lose my Kindle here and the Port Authority ensured that it was returned to me. I was surprised that of all airports, Newark would be the honest one. Thank you Officer Polis.

A nice airport with a lot of United flights -- sometimes cheaper than flying in through JFK. Terminal C has been re-modeled and features lot of world cuisines. The by-the-piece sushi looked good, but I had the Pat LaFrieda custom burgers, and they were essentially a Shack Shack clone -- which isn't a bad thing.

Don't go though looking for restaurant food in Terminal C without a credit card!! The inability of the restaurants to take cash payments in Terminal C is not a positive improvement. Who doesn't have a credit card? Lots of people!

Everything is a traditional airport, so have some time to spare.

When arriving on international flights, there are no ESTA machines like other airports, so everyone is lined up in the same lane for foreigners. It takes a considerable amount of time to pass the immigration review.

At the time of transfer, it goes out after passing through customs review. As new customers and transit passengers collectively check baggage, it also takes time.

Probably one of the worse airports to layover in. Probably the only airport I had to pay to use the wifi and even then it was spotty. Glad I only needed to use the wifi to get codes so I could switch my phone back to the US provider and could go back to using my cellular data. Terminal A seemed to have more outlets to charge, but in Terminal C where most of the international flights for united go out, hardly any (glad the airplane had outlets in every aisle. Customs seemed ok, apparently they weren't prepared for our flight to arrive so a little be of a wait. I also feel like there wasn't much of a choice for places to eat inside the terminal. Outside the terminals in the check-in area looked to have more choices, but then you have to risk going through security again and waiting in a long line. It is also a pain to have to go from terminal to terminal with the bus. The sign for the bus is not clearly marked and kind of confusing to find. I was lucky to have a staff member let me know I was headed in the right direction.

I like EWR because it is, by far, the easiest of the three NYC airports to get in and out of. Terminal C is really nice and updated but terminals A & B, not so much. August thunderstorms make flight delays a daily occurrence.

The woman identified as Information (red jacket) was RUDE and NOT helpful. Three terminals at Newark International and unable to locate which terminal Miami Air International flies into at Newark. No true restaurants for people waiting to pick someone up from terminal B. I was at Logan picking up family members yesterday and it was easy to determine where I needed to be. Additionally at Logan Airport there was an abundance of choices in food and shops for people waiting.

Of the airports I have been to across the USA and ...

Of the airports I have been to across the USA and in Europe, this is the worst airport. There are airports in less developed countries and smaller cities across the US that are much newer, more equipped airport facilities; have more seamless security, check in processes and truly professional staff. To be fair I don t need a new airport best friend, just a sense of urgency while keeping us safe (this can be done, other airports do it). There are bigger, uglier airports that still make up for it by creating a seamless security and travel experience so that I get to where I need to be. Don t get me wrong, there are a few gems TSA, merchant and airline employees that give great service and take their job seriously. The majority of them take their time (hello, I have a flight) and are too busy juggling their non-professional tasks with their job. I only came across NEWARK because of work but personally would never choose to fly to and from Newark. I can list the airports that consistently aren t as bad as Newark as concrete examples: LAX, O Hare, JFK, Charles de Gaulle, Orly, Leonardo Da Vinci, Vaclav, SFO, Santa Clara, San Jose....the list can go on.

This airport is laughable! My wife and I arrived at the airport 2 hours before our flight and almost missed it. The security line was actually out of the door, outside the building! Security officers checking people through were to worried about criticizing the passengers out loud about anything missed or faulty actions. Completely pathetic

I used it only for connection, but for such, it is quite disorganized compared to the JFK considered its size. At the inspection lacks office desks and put more employees. Nobody arranges the sequence of the x-ray, it's a real mess. With respect to comfort, there is nothing to complain about, a terminal with many services, places to sit, technological desks with chargers and even an iPad with some functionalities and ordering from the food court.

Everything Operated by United it seems. Restaurants. Bars. Shopping. Services. Monopolistic. Crammed. Crowded. Not world-class. Not value for money. Everything is expensive. Passenger services take a back seat to commercial establishments. Newly remodeled Terminal C is all looks but doesn't please. They need to add a floor to accommodate everything and everyone and bring back free enterprise. Goes against everything America used to stand for. 4 stars is primarily for security and cleanliness and also for use of technology for most purchases and plug ins for charging devices. Under paid staff try hard (lack luster) to please for minimum wage.

Probably the worst airport I have ever had to travel through. Our plane was in mid descent when we shot straight back up into the air as we were denied landing. Circled around then landed. Waited for gate for 15 minutes. Got off plane to run for shuttle to be told the shuttle was not available so we missed our connecting flight. Were rerouted to a 2 stop flight instead of our direct flight. Rerouted again to a later direct flight. Plane got delayed arriving for similar reasons. We boarded 1.5 hours later than anticipated. Another half hour to take off. Then arrive home 8 hours late to find that they lost my luggage. The kicker? Newark lost my luggage both ways. Not an apology nothing for me either. The bathrooms were so dirty. They actually smelled like ashtrays filled with hairspray and perfume and then sprinkled with urine. Half of the stalls in half the bathrooms didnt work. the soap dispensers were broken. The seats in the terminals were filthy. The shuttles took forever. Literally nothing about this airport is good. Except the meal I had in terminal c. Expensive beyond reason but tasty. All in all I dont think I will EVER travel through newark again. RIDICULOUS.

Worst.airport.ever. Do not use as a connecting hub unless you plan for at least a 2 hr layover. TSA staff are particularly rude, brusque and unhelpful and that's saying something!

Unlike other airports such as Laguardia, you have to go through security again if you use the airtrain to get to the next concourse over. The signage is awful, misleading and minimal. Each TSA station makes up its own rules for searches so zero consistency.
Don't let anything out of your sight on the search trays that go through the Xray or they'll end up "missing." I "lost" a nice coat and hat.
Avoid, avoid, AVOID. You have been warned.

Terminal B International Departures

Terminal B International Departures
Quick and easy check-in and fast security screening. Past security there are no good retail shops except for one Houdson News (bad service and unreliable staff makes the shopping experience American-unlike)
There are no good food places except for 2;
First just right outside security screening , expensive and limited variety of food dishes.
Second one which is just by the main gates again overpriced food and small portion unlike for American standard.
Very limited airport hospitality. At all costs avoid this airport better off with JFK.

This airport is super hard to navigate if you come in on the train the signs send you up and down the stairs and in circles before you can find the check-in. It really should be hard to improve the signage.

Easily the worst airport I've ever been, developing countries do better than this horrible place. Border control takes ages, they get suspicious of brand new, fully valid european passports and give you a hard time about them. Queues are outrageous for security, they extend far past marked queueing lines.
Old, inefficient architecture with super-narrow corridors leading to the gates. Food places are old and unappetizing, often it's hot and smelly around them. Wifi is barely functional, toilets unpleasant.
Avoid if you can!

Very well located and the cheapest option on flights in front of JFK or LaGuardia. It has the advantage of being a medium to small airport and therefore it is not necessary to support the queues of other airports. Even in peak hours the process tends to be relatively fluid. Average food and service price with the rest of NYC airports. Easy to connect between terminals.

The worst airport ever! No shops in the sens of shopping, only food 'shops'. Better bring your food with you because here prices start from $16 per hamburger (fries charged extra). Only affordable place is Dunkin Donats, but even there prices are increased of 30%. I wanted to buy an Ipad to save on taxes, but in whole terminal C there was no single shop with electronics!

Worst airport in NYC area. They may have less traffic than JFK or LGA but somehow manage to ALWAYS delay flights. Not only that the terminals have disgusting/zero options for food. Save yourself the hours of delays and book at one of the other airports.

For departure , we used Terminal C ; It's best to print your pre-boarding pass before airport arrival, to save time. The lines kept moving and checking in process was faster and smooth. TSA officers are working more efficiently and effectively then before ; Love the restaurant Nonnas ; It's the perfect spot to hang out as you wait. Drinks are about $ 3 more than average. Aslo liked the computer tablets at the waiting/lounge areas , which allows you to stay connected/informed as you drink/eat and relax. For Arrivals they still need to inprove their services. There were long waiting lines as you are going through customs. Only a few Booths were open 3 vs 7 , it appears they are always short staffed on custom imigration officers. Be ready to wait in long lines.

The airport still has congested lines going to immigration as well as being scanned. The bins used need a face-lift. However the waiting area for terminal C is clean and labeled for social distancing. My flight was at C90 and they had a good assortment of shops within that section of the terminal including my favorite, Starbucks. It appears most shops are self check out but the prices are steep

No free wifi are you kidding me. I have flown in and out of at least 30 different airports in the United States and this (also the New York airports) is the only airport to make you pay for wifi.

Absolute worst experience of any airport I ve ever...

Absolute worst experience of any airport I ve ever been through. USO was open for limited hours. TSA is very disrespectful and disorganized. They made me show my Florida ID instead of my military ID which I ve never had any problem with, made us wait in a large group outside of the lined area for security and then another TSA guy was asking why we weren t lined up. TSA girl made me take off my decorative scarf around my neck which I ve never had to do, had four lines funneling to one place so of course it s going to back up. When i laid my tablet and computer separate in the same bin they threw a fit and said it had to be separate bins (again that s not anything I ve ever had a problem with before) and when i had my shoes beside my computer she rudely said it ll have to be checked multiple times then, that s on you and then it went through with zero issues. Nothing at all is open after 10pm except a Dunkin. The food court is closed off most of the time and that s the only place with comfortable seating. All in all just a terrible experience. I ve traveled all over the US and internationally, and never been this disgusted in an airport.

Very well arranged for USA I think. Was a bit confused at the Car Rentals but with a little more running we can do it. The good thing is that in the area are cheap hotels and good shopping. I was glad that I did not have Jfk at the time.

Witnessed a TSA agent yelling at a foreign girl who didn t speak English in Terminal B. The shelf to prepare for the baggage check is only big enough for 2-3 people to prepare and it doesn t help when the TSA lady is yelling angrily in your face. It creates a very hostile environment. If you want people to do the right thing at baggage check, give them instructions while we re waiting in line for 30 mins instead of screaming the instructions when we re up there. Have some patience with non-English speakers. It s embarrassing as an American to see this.

Airport is also very unprofessionally maintained unlike many other airports in Northeast.

Hard to navigate and signs are unclear. Don't bother asking any airport staff for directions they are rude. But if you make a mistake and get in the wrong line or go the wrong way they will yell at you. If you're not fast enough they get annoyed and yell at you.

GREAT food options but everything else in this airport is ROUGH!

Employees are rude and almost insulting. Had an employee ask me why I was shaking in the TSA line. I found this very disrespectful.

Also waited about 45 minutes to an hour in the TSA line.

Another reason to move out of New Jersey. Worst airport on earth.
Took 2.5 hours to get through security only to have our plane delayed 1 hour to Rome.
We returned 30 minutes ahead of schedule from Rome. After a 9 hour flight, we sat on the runway 1:45 minutes because there were no available gates.
This airport is an embarrassment for anyone living in NJ.
Always a problem. Also always dirty and employees always seem to be standing around doing nothing.
Why?

Newark Airport, or EWR, used to be my go to airport when I lived in Jersey. There were lots of international flights and the airport was smaller to manage. That was before I wised up. The flights are always late leaving EWR! Even if JFK is farther out, it is more worth it to fly in/out of. It s also cheaper to get to via public transportation. It seems like EWR is always under construction so if someone is picking you up, have your cell phone in hand because they will be circling around forever when really you are standing right there.
